Chapter Five
Running with the pack was a longing Frostfur had yearned for, an itch deep within her wolfish soul. As much as she had enjoyed the camaraderie of her former Clanmates, she couldn't deny her true nature. She was a wolf, not a mere cat. In this untamed world, she was part of the apex predators, where she rightfully belonged.
Her friend, Icetail, yipped with excitement as she darted past, her silver-white coat glistening like a frost-kissed morning. Between breathless pants, Frostfur called out, "How much farther must we go?"
Frostclaw, loyal and reassuring, rushed up to her side. His voice was a soothing rumble as he said, "Not much farther, my dear. Just a few more paces, your mother will be overjoyed to see you return." He purred and then sprinted after Icetail, their little runt of the litter, Willowwhisper, bounding up to her older sister's side.
"I can't believe you're coming home at last," Willowwhisper exclaimed, her yelps of delight almost carrying her over Frostfur, who skidded to a halt to avoid a collision. "Sorry," Willowwhisper whimpered.
Frostfur shook her head and gently hoisted her little sister by the scruff before setting off after her beloved family.

Soon, they arrived at their den, and Frostfur's mother, Snowflake, emerged in a flurry of excitement, rushing to meet her daughter. She showered Frostfur with affectionate licks, tears streaming down her white face. "Oh, my love, you're back home, and you're in good paws," she sobbed between licks. Frostfur's own eyes welled with tears as she nuzzled into her mother's fur, finally feeling the deep sense of belonging she had longed for.
The pack's formidable alpha, Blizzardfang, emerged from the leader's den, his presence commanding respect. He strode over to welcome the new addition to his pack. "Welcome," he rumbled, gently nuzzling Frostfur. As she and her mother stepped back, the young white wolf dipped her head respectfully. "I'm Blizzardfang, and I welcome you to Avalancheclaw Pack. May the frost sprites be with you," he declared, then walked off to rejoin his mate.
Frostclaw's tail continued to wag enthusiastically as he inquired, "So, are you ready to get to know everyone, or would you prefer some rest first?" Frostfur heaved a weary sigh, her gaze sweeping across the vast pack before her. It was a bustling and lively place, different from the Clan she had left behind, a place she never thought she'd part from. "I want to sleep first," she admitted, her exhaustion tugging at her like a heavy weight. "I can learn about the pack and everything else tomorrow."
Her father nodded understandingly and motioned her towards a den. Its entrance was hidden beneath a thick blanket of vines, and the inside was adorned with cozy moss-covered nests. Snow blanketed the surroundings, but it was warm, inviting snow, not the cold, biting kind that lay outside. "Here's where we rest. You can sleep here," Frostclaw said, pointing with his paw to a melted patch where moss created a comfortable nest. Frostfur gratefully sank into the soft moss, and before long, she slipped into the embrace of dreams.
