Chapter 9

Rufus hared through the pathways of Twolegplace until he saw Kia. "Kia! Orto told me what he saw and—" he looked to see the she-cat being comforted by Carla.

Orto was panting as he finally caught up with his friend. "We were planning to tell you." He mewed carefully.

"Shere-Khan did this...he was our father! He loved us! How could he do this!?" The brown she-cat yowled, her pelt spiking. Carla gently licked her cheek.

"Your brother!?" Rufus exclaimed, his eyes wide.

"I found something else out." Orto mewed. Kia looked at the tabby tom. "What is it?"

"I was stalking him after he killed Pear, and then I found out he has a mate who's a kittypet!" He meowed, his eyes moving to make sure no cat was around but them.

"The most ruthless cat in the city, is making friends with a kittypet?" Rufus mewed. Carla lashed her tail. "Perhaps he's being too friendly." She growled.

"What does that mean?" Asked a small voice.
"Shut up!" Hissed another one.

Orto walked over to the sound and to his shock, he saw four kits before his eyes. The black and white tom blinked down at them. "Uhhhh—"

Carla walked over. "Hi there little ones." She purred. One of the four, a dark tabby tom kit stared up at her. "Hi!" He mewed in a friendly manner. A light tabby she-kit among them widened her eyes. "We don't talk to stranger cats!" She squeaked.

"Well kits, what are your names? I am Carla, and this is my friend Orto. He has other friends too." Carla mewed.

"Oh! My name is Oak." spoke the dark tabby standing tall and proud. "My name is Sandy I guess." Mumbled the light ginger tabby clearly more reserved.

"My name name is Blaze!" Spoke the pure white tome who had a playful look in his eyes. "My name is Sidney." Spoke the spotted she-kit as she looked away holding her head high in a proud manner.

She clearly held herself higher then the rest as they seemed to respect her and be quiet when she spoke. Clearly she was the leader of their small group.

"Nice to meet you all." Orto meowed. Carla nodded in agreement. Kia padded over. "A group of kits?" She asked curiously.

"Found them starving in a in a twoleg trash place, claims their mother was going to come back and she was just running late. She told them she would be back for them. It took a lot to get them to trust me and follow me." he meowed as the kits were playing.

The five cats all stared at the kits. "I guess we watch them?" Kia suggested. Rufus blinked slowly. "I don't see why not?" He agreed.

"Yay!" Oak purred as he Pounced on his sister and stood tall only for Sidney to use her hind paws to push him off. Sandy was playing with Blaze.

"They are kinda cute I guess." Orto meowed as he smiled. The kits were innocently oblivious towards the serious grown cats.

"Back to the topic at paw. Shere-Khan." Orto meowed, walking not too far from the kits. Kia flexed her claws. "We have to do something. He's killed cats and now advancing further and further into Twolegplace."

"So what's the plan?" Rufus asked. Suddenly a cat padded from the shadows. Ancel greeted them as well as their tiny companions. "I can help with that. I know how they fight—using trickery and ruthlessness. I can tell you the kind of moves they use, but I'm not much of a fighter." He explained.

Kia straightened up. "I could be a spy." She blurted out with no hesitation. Carla pricked her ears. "Do you know how suicidal that is?" She gasped.

"Yeah, I'd listen to that friend of yours." Ancel agreed. The brown tabby shot him a glare. "Shere-Khan took my father with no mercy and if there's a sliver of a chance that his tyranny can be stripped, I want to be the one to do it." She growled.

The cats all looked at one another. Suddenly, the four kits all came over. "Is she gonna be a secret spy?" Oak gasped in awe. Beside him, Cloud lashed his stubby tail. "She's one of those hero cats mama was talking about with papa!"

Kia looked at the kits. The other cats looked at one another. Carla stood in front of Kia, her blue gaze clouding with worry. "Do you want to be killed?" She asked. The brown tabby she-cat brushed her cheek against Carla's. "If it means the defeat of my brother, then that's what it might take. This is for Pear's death. The deaths of the cats Shere-Khan caused in this city."
