Chapter 8
Orto looked around one of the the allies of Twolegplace. He heard of forest cats, but never preferred to go into their land and rumors say that they felt the same way about Twolegplace. Which was the reason why so little were seen or heard of here.
The black and white mottled cat stopped after a few paces. He could hear voices. Multiple voices. Silently, he padded closer.
"Ah, finally you managed to fetch my father. Leave us Pearl." The voice meowed. As Orto got a good look, he could see a big brown tabby crouching on some kind of object.
For a few heartbeats, Pearl hesitated, then turned to walk away, leaving the toms alone. Orto could feel some sort of hostility between them.
"So, why have I been asked for?" The mottled brown cat asked. In response, the big tabby gave a low sound that almost became a laugh.
"Don't try to be all civil with me now Pear. Don't think I don't know why I've asked us to meet." The big tabby hissed. Orto's eyes widened. Pear is his father?
Pear bristled slightly. "I heard of your travels. There are mothers with kits here. Surley you cannot be that heartless. If you continue to advance, soon enough you'll put them under your cruel eye like all the others."
Shere-Khan flexed his claws. "These cats respect me, because I can give them glory and sanctuary." His voice was low. Pear lifted his chin. "These cats fear you because you send your followers to attack and steal from innocent cats!" He clarified.
"Same difference. In the end, they're still loyal." Shere-Khan growled with a sly smirk. Pear looked disgusted. "To think this is the son Sasha and I have raised alongside Kia. What have you become?" He growled.
"He's become the greatest cat ever known." Hissed a voice. It was Yoko, a siamese tom who was one of his newest followers.
"Managed to corrupt another one I see?" Pear spat.
The brown tabby momentarily ignored his father to look at the siamese tom. "If I need help, I will ask for it." He growled and Yoko gave a frightened nod before turning back to his father. "I am still the som you knew, you cared too much for my sister to notice what you did to me, but soon I shall own all of the Twolegplace then the forest. Soon, even those bloodthirsty twits won't stop me!" He yowled.
Pear lashed his tail. "Give me one good reason not to flay my own son." He demanded. Orto nearly jumped out of his pelt. He almost couldn't believe what he had just heard.
Shere-Khan lashed his brown tabby tail. "You and both know you wouldn't want to do that. If you did, my followers would come after you in revenge, if you didn't, I could rip you to shreds." He growled harshly.
"And these are the actions of the cat who I called my son. Your mother would be ashamed of you for this." Pear spat and Shere-Khan tore for the mottled brown cat, his extended claws outstretched.
Shere-Khan watched his father try to spring but he was prepared, pulling his claws across his belly. "You never were a father to me Pear. Or, Pearwhisker." With that, he slit his throat and licked a bloodstained paw. "Well, what are you waiting for? We have a dead cat to show an example of! I have somewhere to be so move it or you die as well!" He commanded.
His followers quickly obeyed carrying his bloody body somewhere. Orto was tempted to bound over there and slash the tabby, but he had another objective in mind. Maybe he could follow him and see where this somewhere to be was.
Once the tabby tom seemingly made sure they were gone, he looked around before heading off. He took left and right turns, almost if he were thinking or distracted in some way.
Orto followed on silent paws. He made sure Shere-Khan didn't notice him once or twice before he was certain that he was being just stealthy enough to not be detected.
The pathway soon seemed familiar to Orto and it shocked him. Shere-khan looked around to make sure none saw him. He was stopped in front of some Twoleg nest. To Orto's shock, he saw a she-cat greeting him.
"I am alright." He meowed, giving her an affectionate lick on the cheek. "How are you Lizzy?" He asked.
"Just fine." She replied, her Siamese pelt neatly groomed along her elegant body. Orto couldn't believe it. The most ruthless cat in all of Twolegplace, had a mate who was a kittypet and he even went by a different name!
