thunderclan
thunderclan is a group of cats that live in a part of the forest that is primarily deciduous woodland. their founding leader, thunderstar, got his name from how his mother, storm, died in a storm of stone and dust, so by extension the name was thought to be given to the clan.
description
thunderclan is a mainly peaceful clan, and respectful of the other clans as well. in battle, thunderclan is fierce, courageous, and loyal. they often take loners and kittypets into their clan to either swell their ranks or because the cat is in need of help or shelter. for this, they are at times looked down upon by other clans and thought of as weak. the clan's main prey are mice, voles, squirrels, and the occasional rabbit, as well as birds such as starlings, magpies, wood pigeons, blackbirds, and thrushes. they have excellent stalking techniques, creeping across the forest floor. they have the sense to keep upwind of their prey in the thick bushes. thunderclan cats are noted to be especially strong. they are the only Clan to bunch their hindquarters before leaping to catch their prey.
forest (old) territory
the thunderclan forest territory is located in what twolegs call the white hart woods. the territory also includes twoleg places such as windover road and chelford forest. landmarks in this territory include:
camp: it lies at the foot of a sandy ravine, protected by thornbushes. the camp is easy to defend and hard to attack. this is also where the clan lives and mainly functions.
meeting location: highrock, a large boulder on top of the clan leader's den
tallpines and treecut place: pines near twolegplace. usually filled with twoleg tree-eaters, the ground there rumbles and leaves deep gullies filled with muddy water.
the great sycamore: one of the largest trees with strong and thick branches.
the owl tree: a tree that serves home to a tawny owl; apprentices here dare each other to climb its trunk.
sunningrocks: rocks that absorb the sunshine and are a place of relaxation. moons ago, it used to be an island belonging only to riverclan, but when the river changed the current, thunderclan wanted this territory, too.
snakerocks: home to venomous adders. the caves beneath the rocks can also be homes to other dangerous creatures. (for example, tigerstar's dog pack.)
the sandy hollows: a training hollow with soft sand so apprentices don't hurt themselves.
twolegplace: the place where twolegs live. this place is avoided at all costs, but useful catmint can be found here.
the camp entrance is well hidden by brambles, which protect the camp from predators, but doesn't stop sunshine from coming in. a ravine leads through it. this ravine was once a river, but it is now dried up. the way into the camp is through the gorse tunnel. the nursery has thick bramble walls and is the most guarded part of the camp. behind a tree stump, there is a clump of ferns where the apprentices sleep. warriors sleep under a bush in another tunnel.
inside the camp, there is a fallen tree where the elders sleep, and the senior warriors sleep in the center of the camp. across the clearing, a smooth tall rock resides. this is called the highrock; the leader stands there to make important speeches. the leader's den is in a cave where the rock was carved out by an ancient stream. lichen covers the entrance. the last notable feature in the camp is a fern tunnel that leads to a crack in a rock. this is the medicine cat's den.
the lake (new) territory
The lake territory for thunderclan is called the hare hill woods by twolegs. twoleg landmarks nearby include the hareview campsite, abandoned workman's house, quarry road, and the quarry. landmarks here include:
camp: the camp is well protected by the side of a cliff, and surrounded by a thorn barrier.
meeting location: high-ledge, a ledge inside of the gorge
greenleaf twolegplace: this part of land was given to shadowclan until thunderclan fought for it back.
an abandoned twoleg nest: herbs and prey thrive here, though it has an ominous feeling inside.
sky oak: an ancient oak where squirrels love to call home. it also has an old rabbit burrow inside. it's where thunderclan apprentices practice their climbing skills.
old thunderpath: marked with blue twoleg markers, cats often stay away from this road.
the clearing: a training hollow much like the old sandy hollow in the forest territory.
lake shore: thunderclan has the north-eastern portion of the lake.
at the bottom of an old cliff, this camp is very well protected. the walls around the camp are smooth, indicating twolegs cut this place moons ago. the cliffs also help keep out the wind. a thorn barrier guards the camp; any cat that wants to come in has to get past. a ledge peeks out from the cliff. that is the highledge, where the leader speaks. a cave near the top is the leader's den. the apprentice's den is also a cave in the rocks while the warrior den is under a big thornbush. the medicine cat's den is another cave, but this time hidden by bramble tendrils. like the previous camp, the nursery is highly guarded, and under a big bramble thicket reinforced with thick roots woven together for protection. lastly, the elder's den is in a hazel bush, and later rebuilt under the boughs of a beech tree and reinforced with honeysuckle.

shadowclan
shadowclan is a group of cats that live in the marshlands and pines of the forest. their founding leader, shadowstar, was the first ever leader prior to the group being named. by extension, the prefix "shadow" was thought to be given to the clan.
description
they are proud, loyal, defensive, and slightly arrogant; often seem to be misunderstood and portrayed by the other Clans as battle-hungry, aggressive, ambitious, and greedy for more territory. it was often said when the clans were in the forest, that the cold north wind of the mountains chilled the shadowclan warriors' hearts. however, as rock states in cats of the clans, shadowclan has the smallest amount of territory and prey, which may justify their willingness to add anything to the fresh-kill pile. even though their fierce warriors and hostile leaders earned shadowclan its reputation, the leader dawnstar led firestar to believe shadowclan was not always as unfair and cruel as they seem now. their main prey is reptiles and amphibians, such as lizards and frogs. a secret food source is the carrionplace, though they are careful not to eat crow-food. they also hunt rats from this area when prey is scarce. shadowclan cats hunt best at night and are better than others at sneaking through undergrowth. in battle, shadowclan cats use shadows as an advantage to fighting.
forest territory
the shadowclan forest territory is located in an area that twolegs have no specific name for. the territory also includes twoleg places such as windover road, and the north allerton amenity tip, and the north allerton road. landmarks in this territory include:
camp: a dark, well-concealed hollow hidden deep in shadows. it is surrounded by prickly and fierce brambles.
meeting location: clanrock or the rock, a large, smooth, lichen-covered boulder at the edge of the clearing opposite from the clan entrance. another rock is propped against it, creating the sheltered half den beneath that the medicine cats use
carrionplace: the cats' name for a landfill, an evil place where numerous rats and diseases lurk.
thunderpath tunnel: shadowclan cats move freely under the most feared part of the thunderpath. this has enhanced their reputation for mysterious strength and invincibility. the tunnel goes into thunderclan and windclan territory.
burnt sycamore: an ancient tree struck by lightning many moons ago. apprentices are trained here to hunt at night and stalk through undergrowth.
the forest is quite different on shadowclan's side of the thunderpath. instead of thick trees, there are more pine needles. the camp is protected by brambles, and the entrance is through a tiny path. there is hardly any grass, but the ground is muddy and cool. the leader's den is beneath the roots of a big oak tree. the warriors' den is under a bramble bush. the den looks prickly on the outside, but on the inside, it is lined with pine needles and moss. there is a smooth boulder at the edge of the clearing, known as clanrock, which serves as a higher place for the leader to address the camp. propped up next to this large rock is another rock, and it creates a sheltered cave underneath. it is the medicine cat's den. sick cats can rest in the ferns surrounding the boulder. there is another hollow shielded by a thorn bush. this is the nursery, and the thorn bush provides protection.
lake territory
the shadowclan lake territory is located in an area that twolegs call the sadler woods. the territory also includes twoleg places such as the hareview campsite, the sanctuary cottage, and borders called littlepine road and the littlepine sailing center. landmarks in this territory include:
camp: closer to twolegs than in the old forest territory, but it is well hidden and difficult for attacking enemies.
meeting location: unnamed, a branch that hangs over the leaders' den
twoleg nest: home to two aggressive kittypets: susan and jacques. if they catch clan cats out alone, they attack immediately.
twoleg path: during greenleaf, twolegs tramp along these paths all season.
greenleaf twolegplace: another place twolegs inhabit during greenleaf. the twolegs put up small dens and light terrifying fires. however, they also leave behind food much like the food found at the old carrionplace.
the camp has a small pool nearby, so the cats don't have to go all the way to the bottom of the lake to fetch water for elders or the medicine cats. the actual camp is in a tangle of brambles, with low-hanging branches and boulders all around and above it. these brambles and branches help protect against badgers and other big creatures. many trees surround the camp, enabling cats to climb up them and see the activities of the twolegs on water. from these trees, the cats can see all the twolegs and their water-monsters in the water. the entrance of the camp is through a thorn tunnel, and brambles. at the camp entrance is a large boulder, which cats have to slip past to enter the camp clearing. in the middle of the clearing grow ferns.
there is a clear progression of dens from one side of the clearing to the other which are all in bramble thickets. the nursery is first, then the apprentices, then warriors, then the leader, and finally the elders at the end of the circle. this structure enables the kits and elders closest to the low-hanging branches and the warriors facing the entrance, if any kind of trouble. the medicine den is in a far corner, beyond the leader's den. it is a sandy, hollowed-out floor covered in dried pine needles. there, the branches are not so bunched together, letting the medicine cats examine the skies for omens. above the leader's den, there is a hazel branch that hangs over. this serves as a kind of vantage point for the leader to address their clan.

riverclan
riverclan is a group of cats that live in a part of the forest that is primarily wetland, or shores of lakes, rivers, and streams. their founding leader, riverstar, got his name due to the river that saved his life, so by extension the name was thought to be given to the clan.
description
riverclan is one of the five major clans and consider starclan to be their warrior ancestors. they used to live on the reedy, pebbly plain near a river with very few trees, but now live in a patch of land surrounded by two streams. riverclan cats are known for their amazing skill at fishing and love for the water. they also love beautiful things and are known to collect rocks, shells, and feathers to decorate their dens. they eat mainly fish, but they also eat water voles, shrews, and mice. they are contented, sleek, well-fed cats with well-groomed fur. they are known to be clever and graceful but are perceived outside their clan as being stubborn and lazy. their long fur and glossy coats are an asset while swimming. riverclan gets by in leaf-bare because according to other clans, they fatten themselves on fish during greenleaf in preparation for leaf-bare. riverclan cats dislike adding birds to their fresh-kill pile. sometimes other clan cats call them "fish-faces", or "fish-breath". they are quite strong swimmers and move through the water as if they are part of it. their lightning reflexes help them scoop fish from the bank. riverclan cats often go well-fed, even during leaf-bare, and their sleek and handsome pelts are often something twolegs are attracted to. many twolegs see this, and often take these cats to live in their homes, although riverclan keeps quiet about it because many of those cats do not come back.
forest territory
the riverclan forest territory is located in what twolegs call morgan farm's campsite and the river chell. landmarks in this territory include:
camp: a well-drained island surrounded by the river and reeds. The other clans' fear of water means this camp has never been attacked.
meeting location: unknown, but they either gather in the clearing or around a rock.
the gorge: a deep gorge cut by the river in the terrain, bordered with windclan. apprentices are forbidden to go near it.
the river: a source of food and protection to the clan. sometimes, it is peaceful while other times, it floods.
twoleg bridge: a bridge built by twolegs that allows the cats to go to fourtrees when the river is high.
beech copse: a training area for apprentices and warriors.
the whole camp is surrounded by reeds. in the central area, the cats lie and share tongues in the sun. in the tangle of one of the reeds, there is the warrior's den. it is also right next to the nursery. on the roof of the den, cats have woven in sparkling rocks and shells from the river. the light dances on them, making beautiful reflections. the river comes up very close to the nursery. the walls are built very thickly to prevent the nursery from floating away in a flood. the nursery is also close to the river so the kits can practice getting wet and sometimes swimming, helping them for when they become apprentices. across the central clearing, the elder's den, leader's den, apprentice's den, and the medicine's den dwell. they are all in a tangle of reeds covered by a hard reedy roof.
lake territory
the lake territory for riverclan does not have any name by twolegs. however, the twoleg names for the borders are littlepine road, littlepine sailing center, and whitechurch road. the territory includes the river alba. landmarks here include:
camp: like the other camp, this camp is tucked away on a piece of land surrounded by two streams, making it well-defended.
meeting location: unnamed, a willow tree stump by the leader's den
greenleaf twolegplace: during greenleaf, twolegs come here to swim noisily.
halfbridge: a peculiar bridge that ends halfway in the water. twoleg boats are anchored to it.
lake shore: riverclan owns the south to western part of the lake shore.
the camp is full of lush trees and streams full of fish. there is a main stream that joins a smaller one, and on that triangle of land, riverclan's camp resides. in the camp, there is a nest of brambles which is where the nursery is. it is strongly reinforced. in other thickets are the elder's and leader's den. the medicine cat's den is behind a thorn bush and overhangs the stream. the earth was washed away, leaving a pool in the roots and a hole in the bank. this is essential for the medicine cat who can store their supplies and get fresh water at any time. there aren't as many shiny things as in the old camp, but twolegs often leave behind shiny things that the cats can use to decorate their nests. however, they have to be careful, as not all twoleg things are safe for them.

windclan
windclan is a group of cats that live primarily on the open moors. their founding leader, windstar, got her name from being able to run as fast as the wind, so by extension the name was thought to be given to the clan.
description
windclan cats are known for their love of open spaces. they are small and wiry compared to the other clans. they live on open fields, or moorland, where they catch their main prey of hares and rabbits. of all four clans, they are the least used to wet ground, preferring the grassy ground of the moors, which they sleep on. they do not like to sleep in the shelter of dens because they prefer the fresh air. they are fiercely loyal and tough. they can also be nervous and quick to flee, due to lack of cover on the moor.
in the old forest home, they took pride in being the closest clan to the moonstone, where the leaders and medicine cats went to share tongues with starclan, and they often find themselves blessed to be the closest clan to starclan, both physically and spiritually since they do not live in an environment surrounded by trees or many shrubs that block their view of silverpelt. they are considered the fastest of the clan cats, and are considered to be the most quick witted amongst the other clans. they are also the easiest to be offended and are the least likely to start battles between other clans. the pelts of windclan favor shades of gray and brown, perhaps as a natural outgrowth of the camouflage those colors provide. of all the clans, they have the deepest knowledge of twolegs from seeing them on the farms that surround their territory.
forest territory
the windclan moors territory is located in what twolegs call windover moor. the territory also includes twoleg places such as the border and windover farm. landmarks in this territory include:
camp: it is tucked into a natural dip in the sandy moors. this makes the camp sheltered from wind, but easy to attack.
meeting location: tallrock, a jagged, dark, large boulder in front of the leader's den. it's encircled by a large, sandy crater called the meeting hollow.
abandoned badger set: a tunnel once used by a badger.
the gorge: a deep gorge cut by the river in the terrain, border with riverclan. apprentices are forbidden to go near it.
twoleg farm: the northwest border of the territory is marked by a farm. ravenpaw and barley live here.
outlook rock: a large rock on the border heading towards fourtrees. from here, everything can be seen across the moors.
the camp is very well hidden, surrounded by a tangle of gorse. an old legend says that windstar, the founder, scooped out a pawful of sand to make the hollow for the camp. there are no proper dens. the leader, apprentices, and warriors prefer to sleep under the open sky, although in bad weather, they retreat in burrows made by rabbits, foxes or badgers. the leader has a den behind the tallrock, but he never sleeps there. the tallrock is a large boulder used by the leader for special ceremonies. the elder's den and nursery are dens along the gorse wall surrounding the camp.
lake territory
the lake territory for windclan is called hare hill by twolegs. the borders of the clan have twoleg names, such as the hare hill riding stables and hare hill road. landmarks here include:
camp: a shallow scoop in the ground open to the sky.
meeting location: a large boulder
moonpool stream: a stream marking windclan's northern border, which is shared with thunderclan. leads up to the moonpool.
horeplace: the fence of horseplace marks the southern border of windclan. their heavy hooves make cats stay away from them.
lake shore: windclan is located on the eastern shore of the lake.
a giant boulder resides in the center of the camp. this is called the tallrock, where the leader makes his speeches. a gorse bush against the rock is the nursery. in another boulder is the medicine cat's den. the leader, apprentices, warriors and the deputy sleep in the center underneath the sky. in bad weather, they retreat in burrows made by rabbits, foxes or badgers. there is also an old badger set where the elders sleep.

skyclan
skyclan is a group of cats that live by the lake along with the other four clans. their founding leader, skystar, was the first ever leader prior to the group being named, so by extension the suffix "sky" was thought to be given to the clan as its prefix.
description
skyclan was the fifth clan, but was forced to leave the forest because twolegs had invaded and taken over their territory, turning it into the twolegplace cats see now. their current leader at that time, cloudstar, appealed to the other clan leaders at a gathering and asked for them each to give up some of their territory for skyclan. However, each clan gave reasons to refuse to let skyclan stay, and in the end, the clan was driven out. because of this, cloudstar swore that skyclan would never look to their warrior ancestors again. cloudstar'a mate, birdflight, was offered a place in thunderclan by kestrelwing, the thunderclan medicine cat with her kits, since she had just given birth to them and they were too young to make the journey to skyclan's new home. with much sorrow, birdflight accepted and promised cloudstar that they would someday meet again.
later, skyclan was brought back by firestar in firestar's quest, a journey in which the thunderclan leader, firestar, and his mate, sandstorm, traveled to the gorge to bring back the clan.
the modern skyclan is a clan of cats with strongly built hind legs which allow them to jump great heights or distances inherited from their ancestors, ancient skyclan. they have rough, hard gray pads which help them to jump and walk long distances on hard, rough surfaces without breaking skin, which makes them infected. this feature allows them to climb and hunt in the trees, hence the name skyclan. they are very powerful cats, who are a bit like thunderclan, eating mainly squirrels, mice, and many kinds of birds.
forest territory
ancient skyclan lived in the area in which there are now twolegplaces and the treecut place. their territory lay downriver from thunderclan, it consists of mainly oaks. their territory was destroyed a long time ago, and little is known about it. their camp was in a hollow, and a twoleg nest was built on it, where now the kittypet smudge lives. surrounded by deep banks of fern and bramble, the entrance is through a gap in the brambles. the warriors den is under a bramble bush and the elders' den lies in a gap in the ferns. the vantage point for the leader was a branch on a thorn tree, and the fresh-kill pile was under an elderflower bush. the apprentice's den was under some ferns, and the nursery lies under a holly bush. their meeting place was an unnamed gnarled thorn tree.
the journey to the new territory was especially hard. they followed the river upstream, and lots of dangers befell them. one kit fell into the river, and the clan couldn't do anything while it got swept away. an apprentice strayed away from the main group and got picked by a fox who outran the warriors trying to chase it. an elder lagged behind the clan, slowing down considerably, leaving stains of blood pawed on the ground. another halted suddenly, and didn't get up again. it is sure that more dangers had killed them as well.
the gorge
modern skyclan was located in a gorge, known to twolegs as deepsands gorge. twolegs also call other places in this territory the river chell, high dene woods, and deepsands pool. landmarks in this territory include:
camp: the camp is located at the base of a steep gorge, making it a tad difficult to be attacked.
meeting location: rockpile, a pile of boulders where the river appears
skyrock: where the leader makes announcements to the clan. it's at the top of the gorge, so the clan has a full view of the leader. it is also where clan leaders receive their new name and nine lives, although the whispering cave is where the medicine cat goes to share tongues with their warrior ancestors instead.
sandy gorge: is the hunting territory of skyclan, and is located around the gorge.
rockpile: a pile of rocks where the warriors place the prey that they have caught. it is also used, as well as the skyrock, when the leader makes their announcements.
twolegplace: the twoleg nests a little way from the gorge. the twolegplace was home to dodge and his gang of rogues during skyclan's destiny.
modern skyclan lived in a gorge located north of the forest territories at the end of the river but were pushed out by rogues in hawkwing's journey. the dens are small caves in the cliffs of the gorge that used to have tiny rat clawmarks, but leafstar then covered them up as a sign of their victory. they jump high into the trees with their powerful limbs to catch their prey, and have some attack moves dealing with the trees. the whispering cave is a cave near the gorge where the medicine cat goes to share tongues with their warrior ancestors, but unlike the other clans, the place where the deputy goes with their medicine cat to become the next leader is different; they go to the skyrock.
