techniques

hunting crouch
keep your body low with your tail sticking straight ahead. hind legs must be ready to leap and front paws must be ready to pounce. is also a good fighting techinique.

mice, voles, and other small mammals/rodents
drop into a crouch and take all your weight into your haunches so that your paws have no impact on the forest floor. pounce, and when you are close enough, kill it with one swift bite to the neck.

squirrels
when the squirrel runs up a tree to escape, quickly run up the trunk beside the squirrel until you're fast enough to block it to the top of the tree. chase it down next and catch it; very complicated technique.

rabbits
a rabbit will smell you before it sees you so approach it with the wind blowing in your direction. pounce as soon as you're close enough and kill it with one swift bite to the neck.

birds
pad up to the tree and leap up. snag your claw in the bird's feathers and bring it down. quickly bite the neck. try to, if you can't get a killing strike in, disable its wings.

fish
sit beside the river but make sure your reflection and shadow does not fall on the water. as soon as you spot a fish at the surface, dart out your paw and scoop it out of the water. then quickly bite it on the neck. make sure to keep it away from the water's shore.

other techniques

tribe of rushing water
these adaptable hunters have to deal with sparse prey on the craggy rock face of their mountain home. one of the methods they employ is using smaller prey like mice and voles to lure in eagles. when the eagles are low enough, cave-guards leap and pin down the eagle to kill it.

tree's method
rather than stalking towards his prey like a thunderclan cat, or running it down like a windclan cat, rogue-born tree prefers to wait for his prey to come to him. he lies perfectly still until his prey draws close enough, then he reaches out and dispatches it with a quick nip or strike of his claws. many cats have noted him to be odd for many of his unclan-like mannerisms, but even his detractors have admitted that his hunting methods, though unusual, are effective.
