Prologue

A silhouette crept through the bushes, ears flicking and swiveling to catch the slightest of sounds. A scent suddenly flooded her nostrils and she leapt out of the way as claws crashed down on the spot where she'd been moments before. Darting out of the shrubbery, she leapt over another attacker, her precious cargo whimpering as it was thrown around. Suddenly in a flash of brown, someone bowled her over and her kit flew out of her jaws into the soft moss nearby. The mother reared onto her hind legs, throwing of the she-cat and running over to her kit, who was mewling in distress. Standing protectively over her kit, the silver-gray she cat hissed as the bracken colored she-cat stalked towards her followed by a dark grey tom and a golden she cat.

"Stay back!" The silver she cat snarled, unsheathing her claws and lashing her tail.

"Then stay out of of our territory," the golden she cat snarled back, who the silver cat noticed, had sparks emanating from her fur.

Growling, the silver cat took her kit, and motioned with her tail. An orange and white kit came running out of the bushes and pressed against mother's side.

"Come on Blaze, let's go," The silver she cat said around the orange kit hanging in her jaws, heading away towards the edge of the territory.

The she kit followed her mother obediently into the shadows, but not before hissing at the group.

"Sparkfur, you had to be so mean with the intruder?" The dark grey tom said to golden she cat.

"You wouldn't understand Smokepelt, being a Medicine Cat and all, you guys don't do boundaries and that kind of stuff," said Sparkfur, sitting down.

"Well there's still such thing as manners," Smokepelt muttered padding over to the river and digging up some burdock root.

"We've got to report back to camp, it's nearly Sunhigh," the bracken colored she-cat called, her white tail twitching in annoyance at the 2.

Nodding, Smokepelt took the herbs and they went to report to camp.

Smokepelt led Sparkfur and Lighttail into camp as they went off to do their duties, Smokeheart headed into the hollow tree that served as the den. After tucking the Burdock into the herb store he lapped at a clear puddle that had gathered in the corner. He lifted his head, and peered at the reflection, eyes narrowed. The sent of fox and smoke wafted into the den and he jumped, the water swirling to create a shape. Eyes glowing pale yellow, he saw the shapes of 2 cats in the water dancing around each other.

"Find 2 from the lost clan..."  Whispered a voice in his head.

"Beware one amongst your number, and 3 others, enemies united."

A flash of light blinded him and he stumbled back with a yowl. Wind brushed his pelt, pain flashed through his heart, and he fell to the ground, large stone paws forcing him down.

"2 dangers, helping all, sealing your fate, and saving the forest..."

He opened his eyes, still crouching by the puddle. Standing up, he padded urgently down the slope and towards a certain den, jumping the small creek that ran through the camp. Climbing the rocks, he reached a hollow in a towering birch tree and padded in. Pinestar looked up from the bird he had been eating.

"What is it Smokepelt?" The leader asked, shaking his tabby pelt out and sitting up.

"Did Lighttail tell you about the intruders?" Smokepelt asked quickly.

"Yes why?"

"I... Well. It's better if... Find 2 from the lost clan, beware one amongst your number, and 3 others, enemies united, 2 dangers, helping all, sealing your fate, and saving the forest, " Smokepelt said, the prophecy forcing it's way out of him.

Pinestar narrowed his eyes with a growl, standing up.

"No... The forest is in trouble?" He asked

Smokepelt nodded grimly.

"But going back to the intruders, I think they may be the key to saving it"
