Chapter 2

This chapter may not be as descriptive as the other one. Half way through the draft I started feeling like shit so I haven't read over it three times, adding description as I went, like in chapter one and the prologue. So just bear with me and maybe I'll feel better when I'm finishing next chapter.

Spiderkit stirred in her nest. The dawn air was crisp and burrowed through the thick coverage on the nursery walls. She blinked open her blue eyes.
The nursery was still dark, yet Spiderkit knew it was somewhere close to sun high.
Dawnshine wasn't in the nest, and Dapplekit was still sleeping, curled up in a little gray ball.
The other kits must have went out to play, because their scents were stale. Owlfoot was dozing and Roseblossom was grooming her pelt.
Spiderkit got to her paws and stretched "Roseblossom, where is Dawnshine?"
The queen looked up at the sound of her name. "Oh, she went on patrol." She replied, swishing her tail. "She'll be back soon."
Spiderkit padded out of the den. "Thanks!"
Sunlight blinded her for a few heartbeats, but it felt warm on her black pelt. She took a few moments to marvel how much she looked like her father.
The camp was busy with cats. Snowdove was talking to Thrushwing and Mockingflame, Hailstrike and Sweetheart were sharing a sparrow off to the side of camp by the tree stump, and
Moonpelt was demonstrating a battle move for Brindlepaw.
Stonepaw was carrying some moss to the medicine den where, at the entrance to her den, Featherpool was laying herbs out to dry.
Spiderkit spotted the other kits, they were in a group near the apprentices den.
The black and white she-kit ran up to them. "Hey guys!" She meowed when she stopped next to them.
Brackenkit twitched her whiskers. "You sure slept in." She teased.
Spiderkit fluffed out her fur indignantly. "Dawnshine says it's healthy to sleep a lot!"
Ashkit hopped between his littermate and Spiderkit. "Come on guys, let's just play." He swished his tail.
Venomkit nodded. "What do you wanna play?" The gray tom kit's fur looked freshly groomed and his green eyes shone brightly.
"Let's be warriors!" Redkit suggested.
"Yeah!" Brackenkit mewed enthusiastically, and started charging off. "Follow me my faithful warriors!"
Spiderkit gleefully scampered after her, running amidst the group of kits.
Brackenkit lead her herd of fluffy bundles straight to Sweetheart, launching herself at the warrior, letting out a battle cry.
Spiderkit purred and leapt after her, landing on Sweetheart's shoulder.
Sweetheart purred playfully and rolled over with the wave of kits. "Oh no! The great Clan is attacking!" She called to Hailstrike, who was watching with amusement. "I need backup!"
Hailstrike got to his paws and plucked Spiderkit up by the scruff. "I have got a prisoner!" He meowed through Spiderkit's black scruff.
All the other kits stopped bombarding their prey and turned to look at the large tabby tom who was holding Spiderkit.
Spiderkit squirmed, flailing her front paws. "Help!" She squeaked.
Venomkit leapt at Hailstrike and clung to the tom's shoulder. "Let her go!" He ordered.
The rest of the kits piled on top of the senior warrior, making him only half visible beneath the torrent of small cats.
Hailstrike gently placed Spiderkit on the ground and the rest of the kits hopped off him, circling Spiderkit and playfully hissing at Hailstrike.
"Retreat!" Ashkit mewled, dashing away back to the spot they were when Spiderkit found them.
The other kits followed in hot pursuit, purring happily.
Spiderkit almost tripped over her own paws as she scrambled after them.
She turned when she heard a rustle coming from the camp entrance.
She purred as she recognized her mother's pretty pelt as the she-cat appeared into view, a scrumptious looking thrush in her jaws.
Spiderkit turned away from the other kits, without looking back, and bounded over to her mother, her eyes shining with glee.
"Dawnshine!" She called when she was close. "You're back!"
Dawnshine purred, her eyes reflecting the same emotions Spiderkit felt. "Hey, Spiderkit." She looked around camp. "Where's your sister?" She asked.
Spiderkit shrugged and looked at the nursery, as if just by wishing she could make Dapplekit appear. "She never came out."
Featherpool, who had been walking past, must have overheard.
"She hasn't?" The medicine cat turned and headed towards the nursery. "I'll check on her."
Spiderkit looked at her mother, her eyes round in apprehension. "She's okay, right?"
Dawnshine nodded. "I'm sure she's just tired."
Spiderkit's mother selected a mouse from the pile and placed it at Spiderkit's white paws. "I mine as well let you taste mouse. Its not as strong as other prey, but I can be overwhelming so proceed with caution." She warned sternly.
Spiderkit nodded and took a bite out of the mouse. It tasted... Decent, not at all like she expected.
She swallowed as Featherpool came out of the nursery, Dapplekit in her jaws.
Spiderkit turned to look as the medicine cat beckoned Dawnshine over when she stopped outside the medicine den.
Dawnshine padded over. "What's wrong?"
Spiderkit's blood seemed to freeze in her veins as the medicine cat replied.
"Dapplekit... She has Green cough." The medicine cat meowed, his speckled tail swishing.
The older cats went into a hushed conversion before bringing Dapplekit into the medicine den.
Spiderkit shoved the mouse away, not hungry anymore.
Dapplekit... Please be okay...
