Chapter 5

The long shadows of the evening dissolved into the darkness of the nighttime. Above Mittens, blanketed the blackest of the black night skies; embedded into it twinkled pure crystalline stars like someone had gone and planted each and every diamond so we could all just admire their stunning natural beauty. Alongside Mittens, Pumpkin trotted glaring into the sky. Starlight touched the tips of the white she-cats fur turning her a beautiful silver her eyes shining like what shone in the sky. The moon lay in the sky looking down on the cats.
"It's time for your late night hunting lesson" said Pumpkin. Mittens groaned, her first lesson was in the middle of the night. After the battle with the badger, her paw was twisted and Pumpkin also treated it and gave her a poppy seed. She was excited but extremely tired. "I will be teaching you how to hunt - I hope I'm not wasting my time with you," The amber she-cat continued.
"Your not I promise I will try my best!" She answers and went into a awful hunting pose. Pumpkin sighed.
"That's good be not good enough you should try: you need to put ur tail down. And make sure it doesn't brush the leaves you don't want to alert the prey, you mustn't make a sound you just creep towards the animal quietly watching out for twigs and ponding when close enough, remember to stay downwind and make sure your scent isn't going to the fresh kill or it will scent danger and run." She criticised, "you must look at your prey at all times, don't loose it especially in leaf-bare" Pumpkin got into a perfect hunting crouch and sniffed the air for prey. Mouse. Perfect. The amber she-cats seemed to blend into the autumn scenery as she snuck towards the mouse. Poking out the leaves  unaware of the cat ready to pounce. She jumped onto the mouse trapping it in her unsheathes class and slashing at its neck killing it. "When I used to be a clan cat," she paused hesitant for a moment, "..before I was exiled; my clan bury the prey and come back for it later" Pumpkin buried the still-warm prey.
"Can you smell any prey scent?" She asked Mittens. In reply she sniffed the air hoping to catch a scent of prey. The strong scent plump chicken stood out to he. Her mentor looked shocked and very suprised. "It must of escaped from a twoleg nest, it could feed both of us."
Mittens got into a ok hunting crouch and tried to sneak towards the chicken, which was pecking at something. Leaves crunched beneath her and she paused hoping the sound wouldn't scare the animal away. She snuck closer and a twig snapped under her paw and the chicken broke into a run; clucking like mad and running in no particular direction. She chased full-pelt after the chicken pouncing right on top of it and nipping it's neck killing the animal.
I thought we'd lose it!" Commented Pumpkin, "it's so plump, it's definitely a twoleg pet." Mittens felt very pleased with herself but also ashamed, she nearly let the chicken escape and (because of what her new found friend had told her) leaf-bare was coming up and she didn't want to starve. "Well done, I have faith in you I will help you learn to fight tomorrow." The white-cat and picked up her catch - the mouse.
"It's so heavy!" Mittens mumbled. She followed the orange she-cat towards her small makeshift camp and they shared the chicken leaving the leftovers for the morning. The nest felt comfortable, lined with feathers and cleaned moss and so was her mentor's. She whispered goodnight to Pumpkin before she drifted off into a deep sleep.
