Chapter 15

Silvershy's POV:

As the shining white moon rose steady into the night sky, Silvershy yawned and bent down to give her tail a swift lick. She had been put on guard duty that night. It had been a while since Silvershy had been chosen as guard and she wasn't looking forward to it. The moon had barely risen and she was already growing tired.

Silvershy shivered slightly as a sudden cold breeze blew through the empty camp just as the last warrior ducked inside their den. Leaf-fall was close to its end and the nights were chilly. Silvershy scuffed the ground with her claws, leaning against the wall of the camp exit with a small sigh.

What if I had a quick nap? Surely nothing bad will happen while I sleep? It's been moons since we had an attack. Rest was too tempting to resist and Silvershy soon found her self curled up on the hard ground, eyes shutting.

____________

Something woke Silvershy soon after she fell asleep. She raised her silver striped head and glanced up at the sky to see that it was exactly moonhigh. She pursed her lips, feeling her skin crawl at the sight of the moon. A feeling of dread clawed at her mind, like something terrible was about to happen. Was that why she had been woken up? Because something bad was about to happen?

Sluggishly, Silvershy rose to her feet and arched her back in a stretch. She blinked her lush green eyes a couple of times to clear her vision and sat down in her original spot by the entrance. Her gaze scanned the surrounding walls that encased Lightclan's camp, a slight feeling of satisfaction washing over her when she saw nothing out of the blue. Then she turned to look outside, through the entrance, and her heart began to beat faster. She didn't know why; there was nothing there.

No matter how many times she tried to ignore her odd feelings, she simply couldn't. Silvershy glanced again at the looming forest before her and was about to turn back when something caught her eye. As soon as she glanced back at the bush where she had seen the strange movement, she saw nothing. She swore she had seen something- her heart had started pounding loudly in her chest and butterflies swarmed her stomach. There was something strange going on, but she didn't know what it was.

Should I wake one of the other warriors? She wondered, glancing to her other side at the warriors den on the other side of camp. But what if it's nothing? They'll think I'm a mouse-brain. She decided not to wake anyone else. I can handle anything that comes my way. I have my powers. The thought of her powers made her feel the slightest bit more secure, but it didn't stop her nerves from spiking as something rustled in the bushes nearby.

Immediately, Silvershy was on her paws and her green eyes searched the forest before her. "Who's there?" She snapped in a low voice. "Come out now." Everything was silent after her words and a twinge of shame ran down her spine. There was nothing there. It was just her imagination.

Silvershy cursed under her breath and was about to sit back down when she was suddenly knocked off her paws. She opened her jaws to let out a yowl of shock but a ginger paw covered it before she could emit even a single mew. She writhed beneath the cat who had knocked her down and struggled to glance around at them- her head was forced down onto its side so that she couldn't see the cat clearly. The only thing that she could make out was white fur with patches of ginger. Silvershy sniffed the air, catching the strong smell of rogue on her attacker's pelt.

There was a slight chuckle from behind Silvershy and the sound of pawsteps approaching. Her attacker was not alone, there were at least two of them. The second cat's pawsteps stopped close to her head and Silvershy caught the scent of Smallclan- with a hint of Lightclan. Oh Starclan no. Dread washed through her body, her struggles becoming even more frantic.

"Hello Silvershy, it's so great to see you again." The golden she cat stepped over Silvershy, turning around to face the silver she cat pinned beneath the white and ginger rogue. Her amber eyes burned a hole in Silvershy's forehead and she squirmed beneath Flamefur's gaze. "I hope you don't mind, but I need to get to the warriors den to take care of some business." She looked up at the rogue holding Silvershy down. "Tornwing, take care of this one. I'll deal with of the rest." The rogue began dragging Silvershy away as Flamefur strolled towards the warrior's den.
