Chapter 22

Foxshade POV

Foxshade stared. Everything seemed to be happening to fast. "How, w-what, how." He spluttered.
"Oh Foxshade, you really are stupid. You really thought I was gone? That I would leave everything, unavenged?" Beetlekit hissed. He flicked his tail and Greyear, Nightsoul, Snowdust, Fluffytail and Darksky were dragged to the clearing and thrown in next to Foxshade. "You told me I could never become a warrior." He spat at Fluffytail. "That there was no hope. It broke my heart to hear that. My dream, everything, was just gone." He sagged his shoulders. "And you!" He snarled at Nightsoul. "I loved you! And then, when I was hurt and alone, when I needed you the most! You go off and comfort him?" He demanded, looking at Snowdust. Beetlekit turned on Foxshade. "My brother, my own brother, the one I thought might care? Didn't even notice I was gone. At least Snowkit cared! Moons of traveling, looking for shelter. The I found Rock. He cared for me. He helped heal me. I could have become a warrior! If you'd tried!" He hissed at Fluffytail, eyes now mad with anger. "Now, now its time for revenge. I've been watching your clan. I know Foxkit has kits now. I know Nightkit and Snowkit are mates. I know where to strike." He turned to Nightsoul. His once kind amber eyes glitted with mad anger and insanity. "I know where it will hurt most if I strike. You will find out what it is like to have your heart broken beyond repair." Slowly he crept forward and grabbed Snowdust. "He dies first." He spat before throwing Snowdust to the side. He skidded across the clearing.
"No!" Yowled Nightsoul.
Snowdust scrambled to his paws only to have one of the rouges knock him off his paws again. Beetlekit leaped on top of him and clawed at his pelt. Snowdust let out a yowl and struggled up. Foxshade watched, helpless as the cat on him held him firmly to the ground. Beetlekit bit Snowdust leg, forcing him back to the ground. He clawed at Snowdust, causing blood to pour from his wounds. Snowdust staggered up, then fell. Helpless he lay as Beetlekit stood over him. Beetlekit sneered at him, before snapping his neck. Snowdust fell limp onto the mossy ground, the ground around him  soaked in blood.
"NOOOOO!!!" Nightsoul let out a heartbroken yowl that echoed across the silent clearing of watching cats.
Beetlekit looked at her. "Feel that? That heartbreak? That's how I felt! You deserve it!" He turned to Fluffytail. "Since your a medicine cat and don't have a mate, I'll have to make do with just killing you slowly." He leaped. Being a medicine cat, Fluffytail wasn't a great fighter, Beetlekit was. Foxshade watched, horrified, as Beetlekit began to tear her fur. He watched as though it was a dream. Nothing felt real. Beetlekit left Fluffytail, bleeding heavily, and turned back. "Now," he purred. "Time for you Foxshade." He dragged Greyear to the center. Foxshade tried everything to get away, to help. He clawed at the ground. He yowl and screached. He writhed and wailed. But the cat on top of him held him relentlessly. There was nothing he could do but watch. Greyear fought valiantly but her movements grew weaker as she aquiered more wounds. Then, came a sound that Foxshade had never been so happy to hear. Flamepaw's voice. "Attack!" He yowled and OakClan cats came streaming into the clearing and onto the mass of cats. The clearing exploded. Fighting broke out. Cats yowling and clawing. Foxshade staggered to his paws. He threw the cat on him off. Anger filled him. Only after the cat was dead did he recognized that it had been Thunderclaw. Ignoring the battle he ran to Greyear. She was panting, blood streaming from her many wounds. "Fluffytail!" Yowled Foxshade. "Help her please." He turned and saw Frostpaw, crouched over Fluffytail's limp body. "Frostshine." Fluffytail panted. "I'm proud of you. Now go help your clanmates." Fluffytail fell limp, eyes glazed, obviously dead. Frostshine stood, shaking.
"Frostshine please." Pleaded Foxshade. "Can you help Greyear?"
Frostshine turned, then nodded. "Go help your clanmates."
Foxshade nodded, then raced into the fray. Cats were everywhere. He caught sight of Flamepaw taking on two full grown toms on his own. He saw Pricklepaw falling to the ground, blood spewing from wounds. He leaped at the tom that Prickepaw had been fighting. Clawing roughly at the cat he yowled. All his grief, all his anger flooded his senses. Wildly he clawed and the cat fell, to the ground. Not caring, Foxshade rushed on. He couldn't see straight for wild anger and grief. "Help!" A terrible yowl came from behind him. He saw Sunflare, pinning Stormstar to the ground. Foxshade proppeled himself towards Sunflare. "Traitor!" He screeched. He bit hold of Sunflare's tail. Sunflare spun round and clawed at Foxshade's ear. "You're not going to ruin this for me Foxshade! I've waited to long! Beetlekit promised he would make me leader if I helped him."
Foxshade felt warm blood trickling down from his nicked ear. "I don't think so." He hissed then he leaped at Sunflare and bit at his neck. His teeth met their mark and Sunflare fell, dead. Stormstar watched, then stood. "I say these words and hope StarClan approve of my choice. Foxshade will be the new deputy of OakClan." Then Stromstar hurled himself back into the fray. Foxshade hesitated for a split second before doing the same. He saw Lionspark fall to the ground with a yowl. He saw Ripplestream disappearing under several rouges. The battle raged on. The clan cats were loosing. The rouges were slowly but surely pushing them towards the camp. Then, a loud yowl came and more clan cats came bursting inot the clearing, SunClan. And the Duskstar followed by RockClan. The rouges looked shocked at the arrival of so many new cats, but battled on. Then Foxshade caught sight of Beetlekit. He shot towards his brother and pinned Beetlekit to the ground. "I did love you." Foxshade hissed. "I loved you so much. Moons after your death I had  nightmares about the fox. I still do! But nothing justifies what you just did. Nothing. You killed Silverpool didn't you? And Icepool? Your own mother!" Foxshade prepared to deliver the killing blow.
Beetlekit looked up at him. "I'm your brother." He whispered.
Foxshade hesitated, which was a fatal mistake. Beetlekit launched up and threw Foxshade off his paws. "Still soft." He spat before opening his mouth to deliver the fatal bite.
"Never!" Flamepaw, battle scarred and blood soaked leaped at Beetlekit. With a yowl he drove his teeth into Beetlekit's throat. Beetlekit let out a gurgling yowl, before collapsing. He drew in a long shuddering breath, then died. Beetlekit was dead. Foxshade threw his head back and let out a single, long wail that echoed over the yowls and screeches of the battle. He wept his grief to to the stars that glistened endlessly above the forest.
