Chapter 16
Flamepaw's POV
Flamepaw stalked a mouse, his paw steps making no sound. Crack! "Foxdung!" He spat as the mouse scrambled away. Something had stepped on a twig. He lifted his head and drew in the scents around him. "Mousepaw, I know you're there!" He called irritably. Mousepaw emerged from the bushes. "Hi Flamepaw!" She meowed. "What are you doing?"
"I was hunting, until you came along."
Mousepaw ignored his tone. "Guess what?" Her eyes twinkled with excitement.
"What?" Flamepaw asked, still grumpy.
"We are going to the gathering tonight!"
"What! No way!" He yelped, all annoyance forgotten.
"I know! Awesome right?" Mousepaw turned, heading back to camp. She flicked her tail. "Coming?"
As they entered camp, half the clan was sharing tongues. Foxshade stood and walked over to them. "Nice catch." He praised, looking at the mouse Flamepaw had managed to catch. "You two can go help the elders for now." He added. Flamepaw let out a long rusty sigh and was rewarded by a hard glare from Foxshade. "Ok! Come on Flamepaw." Mousepaw meowed, nudging him towards the elders den. Inside, Bearnose and Mottledfur were chatting while Blackpatch was fast asleep. "Ok, who's got ticks?" Flamepaw asked. "I think I have one on my shoulder that I just about can't reach." Bearnose meowed.
After they had finished with the elders it was almost time to go to the gathering. Flamepaw and Mousepaw walked side by side. Foxshade and Greyear were walking not far infront of them, fur brushing and tails twining. Flamepaw nudged Mousepaw, "Look at those lovebirds." He whispered. Mousepaw giggled. Stripestar lifted his tail, signaling for a stop. Two enormous rock towered above them. Flamepaw suddenly felt small. The cats filed in between the rocks revealing an even larger rock at the back of the clearing. Stripestar leaped up onto a ledge jutting out from the stone. Duskstar and Willowstar were already there, SunClan hadn't arrived yet. Flamepaw caugh sight of two apprentices, not much older than themselves, sitting not far away. He padded quickly over to them. "Hi, I'm Flamepaw and this is-"
"I'm Mousepaw." Mousepaw interrupted.
"My name is Dewpaw." The very pretty tabby she-cat mewed. "And this is my brother Rainpaw."
"How long have you been training?" Asked Mousepaw, interestedly.
"Almost three moons." Rainpaw replied.
"We've been training for just under two moons." Flamepaw sat down and wrapped his tail over his paws. He drew in their scent. "So you're from RockClan?" He asked.
"Yeah. And you two are from OakClan." Dewpaw tilted her head, listening. "The meetings starting." Sure enough, Duskstar had just yowled for silence.
"I am proud to announce that we have three new warriors; Smudgespot, Rivertail and Thunderclaw." Duskstar sat back down. Flamepaw remembered Bearnose saying that Duskstar had three children, and he guessed they were his children by the proud way Duskstar had said it. As he looked back up he relized he had missed Stripestar's report, now Poppystar was saying about how their medicine cat, Whiteshine had passed away, and that her apprentice, Sparkwind, would be taking over. Fluffytail's head was hanging in mourning, she and Whiteshine had known each other since they were apprentices. Willowstar stepped forward. "I have little to anounce, more than that the prey is running fine." Stripestar leaped neatly down from the ledge and flicked his tail. The gathering was over. Flamepaw was just leaving when he heard a whisper in his ear. "Try to come to the next gathering." He swept round to see Dewpaw bounding back towards the rest of her clan, her beautiful, silver-grey fur rippling in the wind.
So what do y'all think? Should I do more chapters from Flamepaw's POV or should I stick to doing Foxshades? And should I start making my chapters longer? I've been doing them quite short lately.
