Chapter 10

--"The only thing that can hurt me is being apart from you"--

Leaf-bare was now awakening from its slumber. Snow followed, and the prey left to open the forest to the white snow. Maplepaw was sleeping in the medicine cat's den, Silverwhisp by her side watching her progress with intrest.

"Looks like leaf-bare is now in its full swing." Silverwhisp meowed, watching he snow fall down from the crack in the den.

"Yeah. The prey will be harder to find now that the animals are sleeping in their burrows." Maplepaw meowed with a small yawn.

"Bramblestar told me about the prophecy." Silverwhisp meowed, eyeing Maplepaw.

"Did he? What do you think it means?" Maplepaw asked, lifting herself up from her nest.

"I don't know. This would be so much easier if only Jayfeath-" Silverwhisp stopped her sentence short when she realized what she was saying, and whom she was speaking to. "Sorry, I didn't mean to bring him up." She meowed with a laugh of embarrassment and sadness.

"Don't worry too much about it. I still haven't forgave you for what happened, but I'm sure in time, I can understand your choice." Maplepaw meowed, a ping of sadness in her eyes as she remembered the now happy Jayfeather in StarClan.

"Cats old enough to catch their own prey join me under the highrock for a clan meeting!" Twitching her ear, Maplepaw heard Bramblestar's voice calling for a meeting.

Though it had only been a few days since Maplepaw had been injured, she was almost fully healed, so she padded out of the medicine cat's den with Silverwhisp by her side.

"Cats of ThunderClan, we are here to name three young apprentices with their warrior names. Breezepaw, Ripplepaw, Maplepaw, please join me up on the highrock." Bramblestar meowed.

The three apprentices ran up to their leader. Pride shown in each of their eyes.

"I, Bramblestar, leader of ThunderClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend her to you as a warrior in turn." Bramblestar meowed. "Breezepaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?"

"I do." She meowed with excitement, her face glowing with pride.

"Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Breezepaw, from this moment you will be known as Breezefoot. StarClan honors your dedication and loyalty, and we welcome you as a full warrior of ThunderClan." Breezefoot smiled as Bramblestar rested his muzzle on her head. She licked his sholder in respect.

"Breezefoot! Breezefoot! Breezefoot!" The whole clan cheered for the new warrior. Breezefoot's eyes sparkled with pride as she puffed up her chest. She quickly stepped back for Ripplepaw.

"I, Bramblestar, leader of ThunderClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. He has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend him to you as a warrior in turn." Bramblestar meowed. "Ripplepaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?" Bramblestar asked looking to Ripplepaw who had now stepped in Breezefoot's place.

"I do." He meowed with a brisk nod to his leader.

"Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Ripplepaw, from this moment you will be known as Rippleheart. StarClan honors your loyal heart and unwavering spirit. We welcome you as a full warrior of ThunderClan."

"Rippleheart! Rippleheart! Rippleheart!" ThunderClan cheered, now growing silent for Maplepaw's name. All of their pelts on edge as they thought of the new she-cat's name Maplefur, Mapleclaw, Mapledusk? Every cat was wondering what her new warrior name would be.

"I, Bramblestar, leader of ThunderClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend her to you as a warrior in turn." Bramblestar meowed. "Maplepaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?"

"Yes, I do Bramblestar." She meowed. Her eyes filled with a pride she had never felt before. But she was so calm no one realized she wasn't the leader herself.

"Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Maplepaw, from this moment you will be known as Maplefeather. I give you the name Maplefeather in honor of Jayfeather who had surved ThunderClan well for many, many moons. StarClan honors your wisdom and bravery. We welcome you as a full warrior of ThunderClan."

"Thank you." She whispered as Bramblestar nodded his head.

"Maplefeather! Maplefeather! Maplefeather!" The whole clan chanted Maplefeather's new name.

Maplefeather beamed with light as Rippleheart looked deep into her eyes. She twitched her ear, leaping down from the highrock as the Clan separated once again.

Bramblestar gave a quick look her way, before padding off to his den, the sun now letting the moon come up so it could fulfill its job.

Maplefeather, Breezefoot, and Rippleheart all padded together to the edge of camp, silent as they waited for morning.
