Chapter 8
⠀"Jaxx, who is she?" Uncertainty wavered in her voice as she stepped forward. Jayfrost flattened her ears and stepped back, not wanting to cause a fight.
⠀ "Oh." Jayfrost could tell Jaxx was annoyed, though it didn't seem like something to be annoyed about. "I met her when I was younger. We're frien-" he was cut off.
⠀ "I don't care if you're friends. Tell her to leave you alone!" The she cat hissed. Jaxx rolled his eyes and turned to Jaypaw.
⠀ "She thinks we're mates." He muttered, obviously annoyed. Jayfrost giggled and watched as he padded towards the blueish she cat. "I'm not your mate. I don't even know your name." He growled, ears turning red. Shocked, she simply huffed and trotted into the darkness.
⠀ "You owe me a rabbit tonight!"
⠀ Jayfrost burst into laughter as Jaxx padded sheepishly towards her. The noise died down when she realized how big he'd gotten. He towered over her, and was in good shape for a rogue.
⠀ "Sorry I bolted off that night." She meowed. "My dad..." she paused, correcting herself, "someone close to me died."
⠀ "I'm sorry to hear that." Jaxx said, giving her a sympathetic look.
⠀ "I'm okay. He wasn't really my father, but we were pretty close. The only thing is, he told me that my actual father is from Windclan. I can't get over it." Her back of her eyes were stinging with tears, but she refused to cry. Jaxx nodded. The two held gazes for a moment in silence. "Well, I should probably go." She mewed.
⠀ "Oh. Oh yeah. Goodbye." Jaxx said sheepishly. Jayfrost nodded and gave him a faint grin before trotting back towards her camp. She decided it'd be best to bring something back for the clan considering her excuse to be out here was night hunting, so she raised her muzzle. She grinned when she caught the scent of a nearby rabbit, who was casually nibbling on a blade of grass. The honey colored she cat padded forward with narrowed eyes, lunging forward and clamping her jaws around the rabbit's neck, getting more blood on her pelt than she planned.
⠀ As soon as Jayfrost stepped foot in the camp, she collapsed under the weight of a cat. She tried to stand, but someone else shoved her head into the ground.
⠀ "What?!" She hissed.
⠀ "You know what!"
⠀ The voice that answered gave Jayfrost a feeling of pure hatred. It was Wrenflight, who was standing over the body of Sparrowcry.
⠀ "I told you guys she'd come back late. Besides, look at how much blood is on her!" The ginger feline hissed. "It took you awfully long to get a rabbit, or were you hunting something else?" Gasps rippled through the crowd that had gathered around her.
⠀ "Wait, what are you saying? And get off of me mousebrains!" Jayfrost hissed, biting one of their paws. They hissed and resentfully let her up, though they kept her pinned between them. Willowstar padded forward.
⠀ "Jayfrost, you are exiled from Thunderclan for the murder of Sparrowcry." The murder of Sparrowcry? No! She was innocent!
⠀ "I was hunting!" Jayfrost cried, but nobody bothered to listen.
⠀ "Darktail, Blossomfall, escort her out of the territory immediately." The warriors nodded and nudged her out of the camp. The travelled in silence, taking the path that she had taken the night before. When they had reached the border, Blossomfall gave her a sympathetic look.
⠀ "Personally, I don't think you did it. I've seen you come out here before, and this was the first time Wrenflight and Sparrowcry left on the same night," she said quietly before darting into the shadows.
⠀ "Hello again." The sudden sound made her jump. She glanced behind her to see Jaxx's ice blue eyes lock with her own.
⠀ "Jaxx! I don't know what to do!" She sobbed, running up to him and rubbing her head against his, even though he wasn't much more than a stranger.
⠀ "What... what happened?" He asked.
⠀ "I was exiled for a murder I didn't commit!" Jayfrost was shaking now, though she wasn't sure if it was from shock or fury. Jaxx frowned and licked her ear.
⠀ "It's okay," he whispered reluctantly. "I'm sure they'll realize what happened and take you back into the clan." Jayfrost sighed stared at the ground, but went rigid when the sound of paw steps echoed behind her.
⠀ "Jayfrost, who's this?"
