Chapter 2

As Dovepaw followed her mentor Bluepelt into the open forest, she was overwhelmed by all the scents. As they neared a certain, smelly place, Dovepaw wrinkled her nose.

"What's that smell?" She hissed. Chuckling, Bluepelt purred.

"ShadowClan. Memorize that smell, it's good to know other Clan scents. Let's keep walking."

Once Dovepaw knew all the Clan scents, they approached a tall fence her mother, Stonegaze would go to visit her forbidden mate.

"What's that smell?" She asked. The smell wasn't gross, but wasn't pleasant either.

"That's the smell of rouges and loners. Your mother used to sneak there to visit your father." Bluepelt explained. Dovepaw's ears flattened. Visit my father? She wondered. What does he mean? "You see, your father once was a rouge, his name was Parsley. Your mother would sneak in here to visit him, and they grew very close over the last few moons. You are part rouge, but it's not bad. ThunderClan knows you're loyal." Bluepelt finished, twitching his tail to let her talk.

"Then why does Featherpaw give me dirty looks, like Torntuft?" She questioned nervously.

"Torntuft was, and probably still is, your mother's best friend. And Featherpaw, well, everyone knows she's stubborn!" He chuckled. Bluepelt had been mates with Stripedclaw, the Clan deputy, and their kits had been Featherpaw and Tigerkit. "Don't worry. If anyone doesn't trust you, I'll make sure they do!" He purred as he led Dovepaw into the woods. Once they finished the tour, Dovepaw asked;

"Why does ShadowClan's border stink so much?" Her ears twitched in confusion.

"Because . . . . Well, that's another story for another time."
