Chapter 9: How Could This Be?
I arrived at the camp a few minutes later. I went towards Stonestar's den, until I noticed something I should have a long time ago. Snowstorm said he smelled dogs in our territory, right after I had that dream! How could I not have noticed before? Shock ran through my blood as I realized the terrifying situation.
Finally, I reached my leader's den. "Darkstar, I have bad news." I meowed. "Alright, come in Stormyfur." I heard my leader call. I padded swiftly through the vine covered entrance to the den and sat obediently in front of my leader. "Stonestar, Snowstorm has reported to me that he had scented new traces of dog on our territory. He wished me to inform you of his discovery." I informed him. I felt my muscles tighten has I saw the fur on Stonestar's shoulders bristle as I spoke the word 'dog'.
"A dog!" Stonestar hissed. "When? Where?" He sounded argent. I didn't know how to respond to him. I had never seen my leader so frantic. I couldn't answer his questions, 'cause I wasn't the one how had smelled the dogs, it was Snowstorm. Just then, a miracle from StarClan happened. The sleek she-cat, Cinderflight, padded into the den.
"Sorry for interrupting, Stonestar. But my information can not wait. I have been told from the patrol that they have seen and scented fresh dog dirt too close to camp." Cinderflight said. "Now I know. Thank you, Cinderflight. You to, Stormyfur." Darkstar meowed to me and Cinderflight. "What will we do?" Cinderflight asked, clearly scared that the dogs will attack the camp and we will lose many cats in the fight. Stonestar was about to speak until I gave Cinderflight the order. "I will go ask the patrol and get more information on this situation. You make sure all kits stay in camp and all apprentices cannot go out of camp without a warrior or two at their side. Do you understand, Cinderflight?" I asked her. There was no challenging tone in my voice. None. Not a trace. Nada! "Yes, I do, Stormyfur." Cinderflight nodded and walked swiftly out of the den.
Stonestar chuckled. "You take your orders seriously don't you?" He asked. "Maybe. Just for my Clan." I nodded. "You shall make a fine leader one day." He gave me a look like a nursing mother would to her kit. I smiled a thanks at him. "Thank you, Stonestar." I meowed. I was just about to turn and run out of the den, but I heard a small mumble from my leader that made me stop dead in my tracks. "How could this be?"
