Chapter 2

Blossompaw's POV:

Blossompaw looked up from her mouse as Tyler flew into camp with Shadepaw in his grip. She giggled to herself as the winged tom set the apprentice down on the ground. "Hey Shadepaw, want to share this mouse with me?" She called out to the dark furred tom.

Shadepaw looked up, giving his pelt a shake. His golden eyes met her's and he smiled faintly, whiskers twitching. "Sure." He padded to her side and sat down.

As Shadepaw started eating from the mouse, Blossompaw leaned herself into his pelt, forcing down a purr as his warm scent surrounded her. Shadepaw glanced at her, blinking in surprise, but didn't say anything to stop her. Oh Shadepaw... Blossompaw looked up at him. He was such a good cat, and so handsome too. Maybe if he weren't spending so much time training, they could hang out more.

Once Shadepaw finished the rest of the mouse, he stood up and mewed. "Thanks Blossompaw, that was nice." He gave himself a quick stretch before picking up a plump rabbit and sauntering off to the prisoner's den.

"Where are you going?" She tried to hide the disappointment from her voice.

He set down the rabbit and glanced back at her, his beautiful golden eyes fixing on her. "I promised the prisoners extra food." He stated in reply, turning back to the rabbit and continuing on to the Prison.

Blossompaw watched him go. If NoName ever suspected he sympathised too much with the prisoners, son or not the Dark Forest leader would have him punished or killed. A shiver of worry ran down her spine. Blossompaw would never let anything hurt Shadepaw, she'd have to find a way to stop him from growing too close to the prisoners or he would end up paying with his life.

Shadepaw's POV:

As Shadepaw nodded to the guards and padded inside the den, he immediately locked gazes with Bluesnow. The blue she cat was sitting impatiently in her lumpy nest, licking her lips as Shadepaw brought in the rabbit. The scent of fresh kill roused some of the other prisoners from sleep and soon the whole den was buzzing with movement.

Prisoners clustered around Shadepaw and a scrawny apprentice lunged for the rabbit, grabbing it. Shadepaw hissed in surprise and snatched the rabbit back, slapping the she cat in the face with the prey. "Enough! You will only get this rabbit if you all share it!"

"We can't possibly make a good meal out of one rabbit for all of us!" A tom rasped, her ears back.

"Then I'll get more prey." Shadepaw sighed, quickly leaving to grab a squirrel and returning to find the rabbit had been eaten. All that was left was a pile of meatless bones. He sighed. "Who ate it?"

All eyes turned to the apprentice who had tried to snatch it before. Shadepaw fought the urge to slap the she cat again. "Just share this squirrel, okay?"

The prisoners grumbled but obeyed and started eating from the squirrel, each taking only one bite until the squirrel was also no more, laying beside the rabbit's bones.

Once everyones' bellies were at least half full, Shadepaw sat back and listened to the chorus of fulfilled sighs echo around the prison. He felt the warm gazes of the prisoners fix on him, their eyes shining gratefully. "Thank you." Bluesnow murmured, her dark, sapphire blue eyes shining.
