One last day to train
Bellamy winced as Makira laid another kid flat out in the dirt. For the last two days, she'd been trying to teach the kids to fight using the 'grounder weapons'. She scowled softly.
"Do you really think they will go easy on you? Jus drein Jus daun...blood must have blood. They will have one goal: wipe us out as repentance for the villages your flares wiped out." Her obsidian eyes met Bellamy's softer brown ones and her gaze softened. "Keep practicing using the sticks. I don't think you're ready for combat with spears."
She sauntered over to Bellamy. "They're not ready, do you best hope your 'mines' work. I take it we're going hunting to replace the burnt meat."
Bellamy chuckled. "Read my mind, huh? Come on, I want you with me Kira."
She eyed the gun carefully. "Okay. But if you shoot me by accident, we're done, got it?"
Bellamy shrugged. "I won't shoot you then."
Her serious face dropped as her mouth threatened to smile. "Come, ai haihefa. We're killing daylight."
Bellamy's lips quirked upwards one response as he followed her out the front gate. They barely made it 20 yards before she stopped him. "Your footsteps are too loud, ai hodnes. You walk as if you are ready to fight a pauna. You need to walk on the balls of your feet, like this."
Makira took off in front of him and he followed her example. "A new nickname? I haven't even learned what the last one meant. And what is a pauna? Is that your word for panther?"
Makira glanced over her shoulder with the soft smile Bellamy was learning to love. "I can help you there." Her face flushed slightly, almost looking as if a dark powder graced her cheeks before she continued. "Ai haihefa means 'my king.' Ai hodnes translates to 'my love'. And no, Pauna is not our word for panther. It is our word for Gorilla."
Bellamy blanched as she moved forwards, her dark eyes focused on a broken branch. "You have those here?"
Not even bothering to turn, the girl bowed her head slightly. "Only one I know of. If you encounter it, you need to lower your gaze and stance in a submissive manner. If you pretend to eat, it might spare you as it spared me. Now come, I shall teach you to track."
Bellamy knelt down silently next to her. Her left hand lifted the broken branch. "If it was a big animal, there would probably be branches broken higher up on the bush as well." She moved back some branches to get better lighting. "Judging from the foot print, this animal has been here within the last hour."
Shifting somewhat out of the way, she continued. "I think it's a rabbit due to the foot shape. And look..." Makira extended her hand to point at the prints. "It's limping slightly on its hind left leg. I can tell because the print is deeper than the rest and looks sloppier, like it was dragged."
She turned her head slightly, furrowing her eyebrows together in confusion at Bellamy's awe. "What? Was it something I said?"
"No, princess. I just never realized that you're just as smart as you are beautiful."
Makira raised an eyebrow. "And I never realized you were a cliche."
He shrugged. "Don't care, princess. It's true."
Makira kisses him before standing. Her obsidian eyes follow the tracks. "This way, ai haihefa."

Makira ushered Bellamy over. One shoulder contained all the meat they had found, dangled by a string...quite literally. "You're getting better Bell. Tell me, what do you see here?"
His eyes flickered across the scene in front of him. "Three pairs of footsteps. Headed away from home, so they are our people. The only group with three was Clarke's group. These footsteps are slightly deeper, meaning this one had the gun, right?"
"Right. Now, what happened to them?"
He glanced around around before his breath hitched. "They were attacked. Two were dragged away. Where's the third?"
Makira nodded curtly. "Good. You need to help me find them."
They set to work. After a minute or so, Bellamy called out. "Kira, over here!"
