Mountain men

Bellamy sighed as he bent down the girl lying by the flames. As he moved to pick her up, she shifted slightly. "I'm awake Bell. Is first watch over?"

He brushed some of her hair out of her face and she leant into his touch. "Not yet Kira. Come on, let's get you inside, you'll freeze."

The girl sat up, her brown hair cascading down her shoulders in gentle waves. "I'll be fine. The flame'll keep me warm."

Bellamy scoffed lightly. "I can do that better. You helped heal my people, you've earned yourself a spot in my tent. It's the least we can do to thank you."

Sighing, Makira held out both of her hands out like a child. Bellamy chuckled slightly as he grabbed her hands, pulling her up. Her breath hitched slightly as she found her self practically face to face. If she had been any taller, their lips would be only centimeters apart.

His brown eyes searched hers as they remained motionless. Inhaling slightly, she spoke first. "May I..." Bellamy seemed to not have the breathe to answer, so he simply nodded.

Taking a small step forwards, she snaked her right hand to the back of his neck. Guiding his head down slightly, Makira stood up straighter to help close the distance.

Makira's face flushed slightly as her lips brushed over his chapped ones. Dehydrated, she noted. I'll need to fix that, but it can wait.

Bellamy's arms wrapped themselves softly around her waist as he pulled her closer. After what seemed like an eternity, they pulled apart.

Bellamy grinned from ear to ear. "I'm definitely not letting you freeze to death now."

Makira slipped her hand into his. "Lead the way, space boy."

He did as she asked, holding the tent flap open for her once they arrived.

Patting the spot next to him, Bellamy beckoned the girl to lay down. Crawling underneath the blanket, Makira laid her cheek against his toned chest. "Goodnight, ai haihefa ."

Running a hand through her unbraided hair, he responded. "Night, Princess. We'll talk in the morning."

When Bellamy awoke, Makira was already awake. Her dainty fingers directed her hair into a braid. His brown eyes flickered to her upper back that wasn't covered by her shirt. Sweeping out in opposite directions were the black markings of tattoos, almost resembling wings.

He cleared his throat and she turned, smiling softly. " Ai haihefa, you're awake. Good, we have much to discuss." She shifted so that she was nearer to him, kissing him softly. "What did you wish to talk to me about last night?"

Bellamy sat up. "I didn't want to ruin the mood, but Octavia told me that Lincoln said the Mountain men are pissed." His eyes examined her face, which had paled considerably. "I take it that's not good."

"Not good at all. The mountain men have been nothing but death to my people. They come with their funny masks and their guns and they take and they take. If our people go missing, they either return dead or as reapers, blood thirsty cannibals."

Bellamy's eyes searched her face as he cupped her face in his hands. "What masks?"

Makira leaned into his touch. "I can't describe it, but I can draw it. The masks allow them to breath in the strange gases."

"Wait, gas masks? That means you and I aren't from the only groups of people that survived."

Makira pursed her lips. "Trust me, it's not a good thing. Those men are pure evil. They steal our blood and our people."

Bellamy gingerly approached her, wrapping her into a hug. One hand rested on her upper back, while the other supported her head. Makira nuzzled her face into his neck.

"People from the sky smell different. Whilst people from trikru smell more of the plants. You smell...I don't know how to describe it."

Bellamy didn't let go. "Good different or bad different?"

"Mmm both. I like how you smell, but it will make your... our people easier to track down by the animals, if you aren't careful."

Bellamy pulled back. "Teach us how to be careful then. Before a healer, you were a warrior, right?"

"Bell, you never stop being a warrior, even if you stop fighting. The scars of war never truly go away. And yes, of course I'll teach you. But first we need to survive the attack."
