Armed and Not Alone

Aleah held her hand over Raven's mouth. Mouthing 'play dead', she positioned the girl at an odd angle in a puddle of blood. In one leap, she was on the other side of the drop ship, smearing blood over her clothing where the gun shot was and looking at the sky in a blank, dead stare.

It took all her will power not to stiffen as a man with a weird mask entered, gun raised. "We're all good here. They're dead."

Her body went slack as they left. She held a finger to her lips to motion for Raven to stay silent.

More footsteps approached, this time a grounder. He marched up to Raven to see if she were alive. 'Boom!'

Silence. More footsteps. As the person approached, Aleah stuck out her leg, causing them to trip. She tackled them to the ground, a knife she had scavenged in hand.

"Woah woah wait, Aleah, it's me. It's me."

Her cold eyes seemed to only hardened at the realization of who she was on top of. Aleah tilted her head slightly. "And why should I let you live? You shot me, you shot Raven. You tried to hang Bellamy...and now... now he's..." Her bottom lip quivered and she leaned closer, her grip on the knife tighter. "Jus drein jus daun."

Raven groaned. "Wait...killing him won't bring Bellamy back."

Aleah turned her head, her dark obsidian eyes glittering maliciously. "Fine. He lives, for now." Standing up, she punched the wall with her uninjured arm. "One wrong move, and you're dead."

Murphy shrugged. "Fair enough." His smug expression faltered. "I know I'm a jerk, but sorry about Bellamy. Really."

Aleah scoffed. "Yeah, I bet you are." Shrugging him off, she continued. "Maybe you can be useful. I am correct in guessing they're all dead?"

Murphy nodded. "Yeah, they are now."

Aleah nodded curtly. "Good. In that case, Raven, you have a choice to make. If you leave the bullet inside you, you'll live, but you will most likely never walk again. Or we can have Mr. Smart Alec over here hold you down while I remove it, but the procedure might kill you."

The bloodied girl raised an eyebrow. "Well, what are you waiting for? Get to it!" Her gaze softened. "Please."

Aleah's eyes softened. "Murphy, get me alcohol. I'll need it to sterilize the knife."

Murphy smirked slightly. "Alcohol. That I can do."

Rushing upstairs, he left the two girls alone. Raven glanced at Aleah. "Do you trust him?"

Aleah ran a hand through the unbraided parts of her hair. The adrenaline had long worn off and her shoulder felt like it was throbbing violently. "No...he'll have to earn that."

Raven sniffed. "Good."

The delinquent boy reappeared through the hatch. "Hope you ladies like moonshine."

Aleah ushered him over. "Thanks. I need you to hold her down and distract her okay? We don't have any anesthesia...so you'll feel it all."

The mechanic's breath hitched. "Do it. Hey Murphy, what made you such a dick?" She let out a scream as Aleah started the procedure.

"I'm sorry for shooting you guys and hanging Bellamy , okay? Is that what you guys want to hear?"

The mechanic grunted slightly as Aleah continued. "Let me guess, mommy and...ah daddy didn't love you?"

He sighed before answering. "Nah, they loved me."

"You gonna cry Murphy?"

"Screw you Raven."

"No, tell us. I want to know how a kid who was loved by his parents got turned into a murderous psycho?"

Aleah finally spoke up. "People have their reasons, Rae. I was turned into a killer because of what my parents wanted. I'm sure he has reasons of his own."

" Pocahontas, you don't have to defend me. And to answer your question, he gets the flu. His Father steals medicine that turns out wouldn't have helped anyways. Gets floated for it and uh...his mother, she starts drinking, pretty heavily after that... and um..."

Murphy paused, his words trailing off as Aleah pulls out the bullet and repositions his hands so she could thread the needle. "Last words she says to him before he finds her in a pool of her own vomit is ...that he killed his Father."

Aleah paused her stitching. "I'm sorry. I, too understand the cruelty of parents on their death beds."

The boy let out a bitter laugh. "Yeah, well, parents can suck. Here's to being orphans." He took a sip of the moonshine before passing it to Aleah who excepted it with open arms. "Raven I'm done with the stitches. Want some?"

The mechanic grabbed the bottle. "After the day I've had?"

Aleah stiffened and moved closer to Murphy. "More people are approaching. They're not Trikru. Could be more mountain men. Be prepared to fight your way out."

Grabbing a gun, she stood up and held it as she remembered Bellamy doing. She pushed past the curtain.

"I'm armed and I'm not alone. I'm not going down without a..." Her voice trailed off as she focused on Bellamy. She lowered the gun. "I thought you were dead you asshole. Raven and Murphy are inside. Like I said..." Aleah tilted her head slightly before continuing, "...armed and not alone."
