Chapter 10
After saying farewell to Ace and thanking him, Mousepelt went out to the cold snow. She padded through the blanket of white cold, hoping she wouldn't run in to a patrol. The snow stuck to her pads, but ignored the freezing icicles. Everything Mousepelt had felt was slowly dying. Anything else was cold ice. It could have melted, but Amberheart got in her way. So Mousepelt allowed her heart to freeze.
Suddenly, it slowly melted as she smelled Moonglow. Mousepelt had known the young warrior as a kit and saved her and her brother from drowning. Maybe the tortoise shell could help bring Mousepelt to ShadowClan and Ravenclaw.
As she followed the scent she came to a ledge. The brown warrior looked down to see how high she was. A cat could break their neck if they fell. Her claws dug in the ground. She prayed no cat had ever really died here.
That's when the terrible scent of Silversol filled her mouth. Mousepelt spun around and there the white scarred warrior stood her yellow green gaze evil and blood thirsty. Her fur stood on end as Moonglow's scent overwhelmed her as well.
"What are you planning?" Mousepelt shook. Silversol let out a rumbling purr as Moonglow looked suspiciously around as she came out the bushes. She looked up and froze, her eyes wide with fright. "Moonglow!"
"Moonglow, how kind of you to join us!" Silversol turned to face the warrior. The young tortoise shell was about to run, but Silversol bolted in front of her and stopped her. "Where do you think you're going?"
"Please... Don't hurt me..." Moonglow pleased, her ears flat and eyes wide.
"I don't plan to," Silversol purred, "Mousepelt, however, has a great deal of pain to inflict!"
"I'm not going to hurt Moonglow!" Mousepelt snarled.
"You will if you want those selfish cats to pay!" Silversol snapped back. "She's just a low life ShadowClan warrior of no worth!"
"Every cat matters!" Mousepelt retorted. Moonglow looked back and forth and tried looking for a way to escape. Silversol stayed to where the poor she-cat was trapped.
"Oh, really? Then why don't you matter?" Silversol questioned. "Or are you not a warrior?"
"I'll show you a warrior!" Mousepelt pounced and began clawing at Silversol.
The white Dark Forest cat snarled and fought the small brown warrior. She sliced at Mousepelt, but she dodged it in time. Mousepelt then launched herself at Silversol, but she moved and raked her claws on Mousepelt's side. Mousepelt let out a small painful cry, but continued fighting. This had to be the day she fulfilled the prophecy and killed Silversol. Then she didn't have to worry about the lake anymore. She could leave and never come back. Best part was that she'd be remembered as a hero.
Unfortunately, Silversol stood in front of Moonglow and as Mousepelt pounced, the white she-cat vanished in a puff of smoke and Mousepelt ran in to Moonglow. They quickly grabbed the edge and dug their claws in to the earth. Their feet dangling. Silversol walked up and looked down at the two. She lowered her head and grabbed Mousepelt's scruff. She then flew her away, making Mousepelt fall and roll away. A cracking noise was then heard. Mousepelt looked up and turned to see the ledge was beginning to break.
"No!" Mousepelt shrieked, bolting over. She was blocked by Silversol as her paw was pressed on the ledge that Moonglow was holding on to. "Don't, please!"
Silversol let out a low chuckle as she lifted her paw and Moonglow shrieked as the rock broke and she fell to the ground with a loud snap. Mousepelt looked down in terror. Moonglow was still in the cold snow.
Mousepelt bolted around and ran to her old friend's side. The tortoise shell she-cat's eyes still had the horror stricken look. Mousepelt shook as blood began to trickle out her mouth in to the snow.
That's when Ravenclaw, Smoothpelt, Ashface, and Turtlefur pelted out and saw the scene before them. Turtlefur let out a disbelieving wail. Smoothpelt's eyes widened with pain and shock. Ashface, dug his claws in to the ground while shaking. Ravenclaw just stared at Mousepelt with longing pain.
"Mousepelt!" The brown speckled warrior turned to see Amberheart, Foxtail and a brown apprentice run to the border and stop. They're eyes wide with fear. Mousepelt looked at the Clan cats breathing fast and shaking.
Without waiting for them to speak, Mousepelt pelted away. She ignored the heart renching cries from Ravenclaw and Amberheart.
Thankfully, she found a tunnel and ran in to the darkness. Mousepelt made her way through and ran to the caves. She found a small tunnel with a small stream flowing down to the river. Mousepelt lied down and covered her face sobbing as she felt the cold eyes of the Dark Forest cats surrounding her.
