Chapter 31
It was the day before their warrior ceremonies. Crimsonpaw was shaking with excitement as she nibbled hungrily on a rabbit by the fresh-kill pile. Jaguarpaw munched loudly on a vole beside her, beaming happily.
Flarepaw, Bouncepaw and Falconpaw were chatting on the other side of the prey pile. All three of them had their wings, and they had already completed their flying lessons with Obsidianpelt. Crimsonpaw watched them with envy, her amber gaze travelling to Falconpaw's large blue wings, then two Bouncepaw's red wings and finally to Flarepaw's beautiful orange feathered wings.
Falconpaw noticed her envious gaze and offered her a sympathetic smile. She didn't return the gesture and instead glanced back at Jaguarpaw. "So, what was this about an adventure today?"
The golden tom looked up from his vole, a wide grin on his lips. "Ah, so you're going to join me after all?"
"Just tell me what you're planning." Crimsonpaw replied, sighing as she pushed her half-eaten rabbit away, her appetite ruined.
Jaguarpaw leaned in close and breathed in her left ear. "We're going to see the forest."
Crimsonpaw narrowed her eyes, interest blossoming within her. "How?"
"We'll go to Lightclan, since they are the most passive of our bordering clans." Jaguarpaw meowed. "And we'll explore! I've always wanted to see the forest for myself."
Crimsonpaw chuckled. "You seem to be obsessed with losing our bet about getting into the most trouble." She sighed. "Are we going now?"
"Are you finished eating?" He asked.
"Yep." She nodded, feeling a small smile rise on her face. It was about time they went on an adventure somewhere, normal clan duties were getting boring.
Jaguarpaw stood up and started running for the camp exit. "Then let's go!"

They reached the Lightclan border by the time sunhigh shone high in the sky, warming their backs. Crimsonpaw purred at the warmth, angling her head so that her face caught the sunlight. "It's so nice today."
"Won't get many of these days come leaf-bare." Jaguarpaw replied. "I hope we get snow, it'll mean we have to cuddle up at night to stay warm." He leaned into her, grinning cheekily.
Crimsonpaw giggled and flicked his ears with her tail as she strode closer to the border. "The only thing you're cuddling at night is your nest."
"Can we settle for your tail then?" The spotted tom chuckled, catching up to her as she stopped before the borderline.
"Maybe." She smiled, looking into the Lightclan forest. It was dark, despite the strong sunlight. Trees towered high in the sky, with birds flying about the branches. "I wonder what it's like, being a Lightclan warrior. They must be so used to the dark, they won't get any sunlight in there!"
"Imagine how scary it would be at night." Jaguarpaw added, peering into the bushes as he slowly crept over the border. "Come on, let's go." He whispered, lowering himself to the ground so that his belly fur brushed the soil. "Stay hidden."
Crimsonpaw followed his lead, grinning as she crept after him. The two quickly made their way through Lightclan territory, keeping hidden. Crimsonpaw sniffed the air, flinching at the onslaught of strange scents.
There was a sound behind her and Crimsonpaw whirled around just in time to see a white she cat lunge at them from the bushes. "Intruder!" She hissed, her piercing green eyes narrowed in anger as she pinned Crimsonpaw flat on her back. The red she cat let out a pitiful squeal of surprise and kicked at the she cat. The white she cat wasn't as big as a warrior; she was a Lightclan apprentice.
There was a shriek behind her and she twisted her head around to see a long furred, orange and black apprentice holding Jaguarpaw down.
"What are you doing in Lightclan territory you Flameclan scum?" The white she cat snarled, her acid green eyes blazing with anger.
Crimsonpaw pummelled the she cat's belly with her hind claws, growling. "It was an accident!"
"Accident, huh?" The tom laughed and dug his claws into Jaguarpaw's chest. The spotted tom yowled in pain. "If that was an accident then I guess this is too." He dragged his claws down the length of Jaguarpaw's belly and the golden tom writhed around with pained screeches.
The white she cat grinned insanely down at Crimsonpaw. "You kits shouldn't be out of the nursery, exploring someone else's territory."
"We're not kits!" Crimsonpaw surged upwards and slammed her paws into the she cat's chest. She staggered backwards with a low snarl and quickly lunged for her again, flipping Crimsonpaw onto her front so that it was harder to move.
"Then you're the most pathetic apprentice I've ever seen." She laughed, glancing at her clan mate. "Wildpaw, let's teach these two a lesson."
"Don't overdo it. This one's had enough already." Wildpaw glanced down at Jaguarpaw. The light golden tom was wheezing heavily, his eyes glazed in pain as he bled into the ground.
Crimsonpaw's eyes widened as she stared at Jaguarpaw. "No! Let us go, we didn't do anything wrong!"
The white apprentice growled and sank her claws into Crimsonpaw's cheek. "Quit whining you weakling! You trespassed intentionally! What do you want with us? Is Frozenstar sending in spies?"
"No! It was just an accident! We-" Crimsonpaw gasped, her eyes screwing shut as the she cat gave her a hard blow on her head.
"Shut up! Your voice is so annoying."
Crimsonpaw flinched at the ferocity in her voice, her mews growing silent. She glanced back at Jaguarpaw to see his breathing was fast and shallow as his dark blood soaked through his pelt. Why does everyone hurt me all the time? She wondered. We didn't mean any harm, they have no right to attack us like this.
Her thoughts were broken off when there was a feline's screech overhead and the sound of beating wings as something dropped ontop of the white she cat holding Crimsonpaw down.
