Chapter 9
He finally woke up exhausted from his restless sleep last night. He didn't even think about telling Meadowstar that jumped into a two-leg garden or he would be clearing the nursery dens and picking off the elder's ticks for two whole moons. He limbered out of the cozy den and soon noticed how close it was to the end of leaf-bare and the beginning of new-leaf. Bramblepaw then padded over to the warrior's den and nudged his mentor until she finally awoke. "Oof yes, Bramblepaw," meowed Rushshine. "I am going hunting," replied Bramblepaw and then started to pad out of the den not really caring if Rushshine says anything or not. He looked at the clear sky as he padded out of the clearing and could see tiny droplets of water start to fall from the innocent clouds. And as he looked up at the impending rain he closed his eyes, soaking in the cold water as his pelt became wet thoroughly. He then started to sprint feeling the rain pelt on his fur as he pelted through the jungle. He paused at some point and flopped down on his flank to rest against a huge canopy tree, there was no sign of snow for the most part as the weather began to warm up and now there was only a few sparks of frost and snowflakes left. He caught the eye of a tiny daisy flower that was on the verge of blooming. The sprouting daisy was hovering in the wind and rain and then suddenly stopped for a brief moment. Bramblepaw then stood up and took a big long stretch before unintentionally put his front paw on a fox trap and the spikes immediately snapped onto his whole front paw. He fell back on the rest of his unscathed body and screeched in agony, as blood started oozing from his left front paw. "Somebody help me please!" yowled Bramblepaw from where he was lying. All of a sudden a patrol came in view with Firepaw, Heartpaw, Violetpool and Tigerfur. All four of them came rushing over him wondering what in StarClan's name has happened. "Help me, please! I accidentally stepped on a trap," meowed Bramblepaw his voice betraying his attempt to hide his own fear. "It is a fox trap Bramblepaw you idiot!," snapped Heartpaw worry edging her voice. "I can see some pieces of liana vine. Get them here now," meowed Tigerfur his white and brown fur swaying all over the place in the wind. "I can try, I mean my paw is stuck in the trap but I can try and limp to get the vines." replied Bramblepaw with strong fear in his tone. He tried to stand up and seemed to be able to hold his balance slightly but when he tried to walk he tripped over his own paw and fell down again cringing at the pain. He tried to get up again stumbling with a strongly bleeding front paw on him. More blood dripped down as he tried again. He unsheathed his dirtied claws and used them to hold onto the ground as he tried to get up again even though his trapped paw and back legs kept slipping at every turn. StarClan please help me. He thought desperately as he finally managed to get on his paws. When he finally managed to reach out for the nearest vine he staggered backwards and fell groaning in absolute pain. Violetpool instantly then picked the vine beside Bramblepaw between her teeth, Firepaw joined her whilst Tigerfur and Heart paw went for the other vines and entwined it in the fox trap, they then started to pull it open as hard as they can. Once they pulled, the trap eventually flew open and Bramblepaw and leaped from it before tumbling back down, the patrol lifted him onto their shoulders and then walked back to camp. By the time they reached their camp Bramblepaw was hardly conscious as they walked by on each side of him towards Braveclaw's den. Violetpool laid him down gently on the nest full of pine-needles making sure he's comfortable whilst Braveclaw prepared the herbs. Braveclaw trotted back to him with cobwebs, comfrey, dandelion and broom. Braveclaw then wrapped the herbs precariously around Bramblepaw, applying the cobwebs to the front paw stopping the bleeding slightly, she then moves on to chewing the comfrey root into a poultice before applying it to Bramblepaw's wound; she then proceeds to chewing the leaves off of the dandelion flower and giving it to the injured apprentice making sure he gets it too and finally grinding the broom into a poultice and applying it to the cobwebbed wound. "Will he be alright?" asked Heartpaw worriedly. "I am sure he'll be fine but as for his paw, I am not sure yet," meowed Braveclaw seriously.
