Prologue
The moon blazed it's cold, dim light through the wild trees and their untamed leaves. A faint breeze murmured through them. The hollow was filled with unmoving shadows who had blank faces, looking as if they were in pain but yet to say anything. A small, white she-cat with brown patches creeped upon them. Keeping her body low, she carefully watched them, preparing for one of them to plunge at her. They didn't move
She stood tall again. Why am I here? She took her time examining the hollow. There were no signs of any familiar cats in the area or any other sounds other than the dying wind. She was surrounded by healthy trees. Nothing was wrong here other than the still shadows of cats. Owlpaw slowly moved across the clearing. She picked one and swiftly stood before him.
The tom hanged his head burying it in his black fur. He looked scared. Owlpaw took another pawstep forward, she felt horrible for him. She never had seen any cat who was more miserable than these shadows. " Excuse me ", She softly whispered, " Why am I here ". There were a couple of heartbeats of silence before the tomcat rose his head. Owlpaw met his eyes. Her heart sank.
" No stars ", he whispered barely loud enough for her to hear. Owlpaw looked up towards the dark sky. He was right, there was no sign of silverpelt, just the floating moon. " No stars ", she echoed after him. She turned back to him. She could now make out his appearance better. The tom had torn ears and dark amber eyes. Blood dripped from his neck. Owlpaw leaped back in shock, Was he okay?! Before she could take a second look, the tomcat rose to his paws.
Owlpaw grew closer to the ground, her belly was pressed against the cool dirt.
She didn't take her eyes off him. Am I going to die!? He lifted his head and stood tall, the other shadowed cats joined him. They held their heads high as one by one were swallowed into the darkness. Owlpaw could feel her heart pounding, What's going on!
Within seconds, all the shadows, all the trees, had been swallowed by a thick gloom. It was just her and the black tom. She could barely make out the shape of his fur melting in the dim moonlight. A glint of red flashed in his eyes as he spoke, " There will be no stars. There will be no protection for the clans. You must save them. You must SAVE THEM"! The black tom yowled out. Owlpaw watched him disappear, still echoing, then silence.
