Pinekit, Dustkit, and Silverkit were crouched under a bush. "Quick!" Dustkit squealed, "Go through the tunnel!" Silverkit and Pinekit pushed their way through, Dustkit cast a last glance across the clearing to check no one had seen them before diving after them.

The three kits scurried away from camp, checking over their shoulders to see if any cat had noticed their escape. "I can't believe that worked!" Pinekit meowed, flicking her tail excitedly.

"Of course it worked. It was my plan after all!" Dustkit boasted, bowling over Pinekit. "Hey!" She squealed, batting at him with both of her paws.

"Silverkit help me!" Silverkit glanced at his two siblings rolling on the ground and scoffed, "Stop acting like little kits you two! Were almost apprentices for StarClan's sake!"

Pinekit glared at her brother, "Then what do you think we should do? Sit around gossiping with the queens?" Silverkit stuck his tongue out at her "No! We got out of camp right? We should go explore!"

"Silverkit's right! We can pretend were apprentices and go hunting!" Dustkit meowed, "Imagine Frostblossom's face when we come back to camp loaded with prey!" "Alright!" Pinekit cried, bouncing up and down in excitement, "Let's do it!"

The three kits padded of into the forest, noses in the air, sniffing up every scent. "Mouse!" Dustkit gasped, pointing his tail to the left, "Under that bush!" Pinekit fell into a sloppy hunting crouch and crept forward slowly.

Snap!

A twig had broken under Pinekits foot, "Foxdung!" She hissed as the mouse vanished into its burrow. Silverkit walked over to his sister and laid his tail over her back, "It's okay, you'll get the next one!" He comforted her.

Dustkit opened his mouth to say something when a look of terror crossed his face. "Fox!" He yowled, "How do you know its fox," Silverkit questioned, "We've never seen one!"

"It's the same scent as the time when a patrol of warriors came back to camp after fighting a fox a moon ago!" Pinekit lifted her nose in the air, "I smell it too now!" The three kits looked around wildly, pelts bristeling.

Suddenly a low growl came from behind them and the sour scent became stronger. The kits looked behind them to find a huge russet animal looming over them. The fox lunged at them, "Run!" Dustkit screamed.

"Climb trees!" Silverkit shouted to his siblings before running to a tree himself and clawing his way up. Dustkit had also reached the safety of a high branch, digging his claws into the wood. "Help!" Pinekit yowled, racing across the forest floor, the fox at her heels.

"Climb a tree!" Dustkit shouted, "I can't!" She panted back. Pinekit eventualy shot under a bramble bush, pushing her way under.

Ignoring the fierce jabs of pain as thorns dug into her pelt she crept further, the fox growled in frustration. He snapped at the thorn bush, trying to get to his prey.

Pinekit whimpered in terror and fright, the fox pushed his way through the brambles, getting nearer. "We have to help her, Silverkit!" Dustkit hissed, "We can't just let her get ripped apart by that fox!"

At that moment a patrol of warriors burst through the undergrowth, leaping at the fox. "Yes! Go warriors, you can do it!" Silverkit cheered, bouncing up and down on his branch. The warriors were attacking the fox with the fury of StarClan, hissing and spitting as the wounded fox finally retreated back into the forest.

Two of the warriors were helping Pinekit get out of the bramble bush, "You two can come down now!" A ginger she-cat the kits recognised as Foxfur, the clan deputy, yowled.

Silverkit and Dustkit scrambled down from their tree, rushing to their sisters side. "Are you okay?" Silverkit gasped, licking Pinekit's ear. "I'm fine." She answered.

"Lavenderleaf will decide that." Foxfur spoke sharply, "How could you run of like that? Frostblossom was in a frenzy looking for you kits!"

"Sorry" Pinekit muttered, "We just wanted to see a bit of the forest before we became apprentices!" Foxfur sighed picking Pinekit up by the scruff, Snowpounce and Badgersplash did the same to Silverkit and Dustkit.
