35. Hawkheart
Thanks to Ivy840 for suggesting this cat!
Hawkheart. WindClan's warrior-medicine cat.
I don't like him much.
In the later books, murder was seen as terrible, be it justified or not. In fact, even in the earlier books - minus Tigerclaw "killing Oakheart", because apparently that was fine - murder is still evil, no matter how much the cat deserved it.
So to see not just any cat but a medicine cat murder another cat for destroying a herb supply appalled me.
While I agree that Moonflower would have deserved it had she been doing it of her own accord, it was still not the right way to go about punishment. And she WASN'T doing it in her own free will! She was told by ThunderCln's medicine cat to destroy the herb supply!
While I know that he was a warrior before he became a medicine cat, he must have been made a medicine cat for a reason. That reason wasn't named. I wish it was, because that cat needs some serious development if he wants to be liked.
I'll admit that such an aggressive medicine cat is quite unique. In fact, I think he's the only one to be so violent. Yes, Yellowfang killed Brokenstar but no good cat wanted him alive. He was truly evil. She wasn't even violent, anyway. She tried to keep him alive, couldn't bear to see him due; he was her son. Eventually the care for the Clan that had taken her in overshadowed that unconditional love of a mother, and she ended him for the good of everyone.
Hawkheart seemed to feel no remorse over killing Moonflower- and right in front of Bluekit no less. While Moonflower wasn't one of my favourite characters, she was only doing what her brother had told her to do. Goosefeather can hardly be blamed either - although if anyone should be killed in that situation it would be him - because he misread a sign. Every cat makes mistakes. The mistakes made by medicine cats just seem to create more damage, since they are literally in charge of making sure their entire Clan doesn't die.
I may not have talked much about Hawkheart here, but that's because I don't have much to say about him other than he's quite close to being evil. Of course, he probably still got into StarClan, because while he was violent and a murderer, he still liked StarClan, and that seems to be all that matters these days. Yes, I'm looking at Ashfur and Thistleclaw (though he was chased out by Bluestar once she joined). If he was given more development - or just any form of feelings in general - I might be more sympathetic. But right now the only thing that I could possibly like about him is how he treated Yellowfang when she became a warrior - with more respect than pretty much everyone else in another Clan put together.
(There isn't any official art of Hawkheart anywhere, and all the fanart is so varying, so I've just used the wiki image.)
