Chapter 11 - Return

I gulped down the rest of the squirrel I was eating and stood up, anxious but eager at the same time. There was no telling what could happen at the Moonpool, and how it would affect what will happen in the present day Clans.

It was a couple of mintues - give or take, because there's no way to tell the exact time here - after sundown and I made my way to the Sky Oak, the meeting point.

Despite my injuries, I managed to walk at a steady pace without falling. My paws still hurt, but thanks to Chilled Petal's medicine cat skills, most of the pain had vanished.

By the time I reached the Sky Oak, the moon was nearing its peak. I was panting and I had to sit down to regain my strength.

I was the first one there. I took the chance to admire the wide, round lake, reflecting the tinkling stars and the land around the lake. It was simply beautiful.

Moonpool is quite the journey... I don't know whether I could handle the rest of the journey even with Chilled Petal's strengthening herbs... Maybe I should have waited for the next day.

A rustle in the bushes caught my attention. Storm's Shadows walked out from them and spotted me watching the lake.

"Why did you ask me and Honey Spots to meet here?" he asked.

"Let's wait for the others," I meowed simply.

Clover Shine and Honey Spots arrived not too long after. Clover Shine looked just as tired as I was, most likely because of her wounds.

"I hope this is good," she commented after catching her breath. "I was told to rest, but seeing that you disobeyed that and requested for me to meet you here, I felt obliged to agree."

"I will have to agree with Clover Shine on this one," Honey Spots spoke. "Both of you look like you are going to faint at any moment."

"It's important," I insisted, standing up with much difficulty, gritting my teeth in pain. "Just... follow me."

It was a tough journey as the effects of strengthening herbs I got began to disappear and a sharp pain in my hind paws were beginning to resurface.

No cat had spoken anything throughout the journey, not even Clover Shine, as she seemed more preoccupied in resisting her own pain from the wounds inflicted by the foxes.

I staggered for a moment and Storm's Shadows instinctively rushed forward to support me. "Are you okay?" he meowed. "Maybe we should stop and wait for the next day." He glanced at Clover Shine as well.

"We made it this far," I pointed out quietly. "We must get there by tonight, or we will miss it."

"Clover Shine, can you continue?" Storm's Shadows turned to the fiery white she-cat, who was half leaning onto Honey Spots for support.

In response, she gave the grey tabby a glare, which clearly stated her stand. Storm's Shadows reluctantly nodded and we proceeded on.

At last, we reached the Moonpool. "We're here," I mewed in a voice that could be compared to a whisper.

"What's this place?" Honey Spots wondered out loud, fascinated.

"Some sort of pool formed many moons ago," Storm's Shadows meowed. "At least that's what I think."

"Frost's Flame, care to explain?" Clover Shine asked, sitting down by the pool.

"When I fainted during the fight with the foxes, I was transported to a strange place, where I was told to find  'the others' and to bring them to this place," I mewed.

"How can you be so sure that we are the ones?" Storm's Shadows mewed.

"I just know," I mewed, silently hoping that they would not question me any further.

"So... what do we do here?" Clover Shine looked around.

"We drink from the pool and sleep," came my reply. "We don't have much time left."

Much to my relief, they understood the urgency in my voice and did as I told. I did the same and closed my eyes, waiting for what came next.

I felt cold. Whether it was because of the cold night, or the stone that make up the Moonpool, I shivered.

Frost's Flame, Clover Shine, Honey Spots and Storm's Shadows, I thought. I never truly understood your actions, why you decided to put me and my classmate's spirits into your bodies, risking so much to save the Clans and giving us the responsibility.

It came so sudden, like a jolt of lightning. Clover Shine's snark attitude, Honey Spots' hesitance, Storm's Shadows' thinking... It made much more sense now.

I finally understood why you chose us. We represented each of you the most, like we are your personas and vice versa. We are connected in a way that science could never hope to explain.

You sacrificed so much for the Clans, even doing so in death. Now, let me - no, us - help you.

Thank you.

In a flash, I found myself back in the middle of ThunderClan's forest, all the pain I experienced as Frost's Flame mysteriously disappeared.

I'm back.

------------------------------------------------------------

Basically, the main characters were chosen because they are very similar to the ancients (Frost's Flame, Clover Shine, Storm's Shadows and Honey Spots) in terms of personality.

By sending Frostpaw to the ancient's time, Frost's Flame hoped to ease her growing doubt that she tried not to think about or speak about.

By the way, did you forget about the  squirrels Frostpaw, Thorn's Shadow  and Clover Shine caught in Chapter 9? If you want to know what happened to those squirrels, you might want to reread the first paragraph. ;)
