When you first choose a name, it should be based off the pelt, not the color. Also first start with the prefix. Below are some prefixes that you SHOULD NOT use:

Bouncekit

Playfulkit

Hopkit

Leapkit

Springkit

Pouncekit

Any prefix with movement is something you shouldn't use. Why? I'm about to tell you. So let's say you have a kit, and he likes to pounce everywhere. So you name him Pouncekit. But when he's an apprentice as Pouncepaw, he stops a little with pouncing. And then when he's a warrior as Pouncejump, he stops jumping completely. So notice that a cat's personality can change, and there name might not make any sense any more! Let's now move on to the prefixes you should use! I highly recommend choosing a prefix that relates to the cat's pelt. Remember to never choose a prefix that relates to the cat's personality. Always the looks. So, here are some possible color prefixes that you can use for a cat, depending on their pelt:

-Grey

-Black

-Cream

So those are prefixes you can use depending on your main characters cat pelt. I suggest this method mostly for beginners. But now, getting on to a more open name system. So here's another good prefix name system. So, let's say your kit is a golden kit. A good name would be Lionkit. Because lions also have a golden pelt, like the kit. Or if your kit is brown. You can name him Bearkit, because bears relate to him, having the same fur color! So here's are some animal/leaf/tree/dirt/nature prefixes that can relate to your cats pelt:

-Lion (if your cat has a golden pelt.)

-Bear (if your cat has a brown pelt.)

-Leopard (if your cat is grey or golden, with black spots.)

-Wolf (if your cat has a grey pelt.)

-Fox (if your cat has an orange/ginger pelt)

-Badger (if your cat is black or white.)

-Tiger (if your cat is brown and black.)

-Kestrel (if your cat is grey)

-Robin (if your cat is ginger/orange)

-Jay (if your cat is grey.)

-Buzzard (if your cat is light brown.)

-Birch (if your cat is brown.)

-Pine (if your cat is dark brown.)

-Snow (if your cat is white.)

-Leaf (if your cat is golden or orange/ginger or grey-brown)

So above were just a great, and long list of prefixes relating to your cats pelt. I'm going to choose the prefix Log, for my cat because he's brown. Now, we only have one last part, and are cat is done! Suffixes! Now suffixes are a lot easier, because there is a limited amount, and not as many. Below are a good set of popular suffixes, I often use for creating my cats or side cats:

-heart

-whisker

-nose

-claw

-storm

-fur

-pelt

-tail

-stripe

-breeze (if your cat is calm and patient)

So I'll choose the suffix 'tail' for my cat. So now, you have finished your cat! Here is my finished example cat: Logtail. He is a brown tabby with green eyes. And if you want, you can fit the personality in there too! Also, very important: every time you make a cat, and your going to use them for book, ALWAYS make them smart! No one wants to read about a dumb cat, who can't catch prey or memorize any herbs. Make them smart. Know how to catch prey and fight.(unless they are a talented medicine cat).
