Chapter 8
Walking with honor in my tail and sway forward to Riverclaw. "I'm ready and now don't be easy on me." I hissed a smile on my face waiting for the apprentice to strike.
"Came back for more? This time, I don't see Silvertail you may need her for this! And your scar you look like a kit!" I laugh at his remark, and I got in a pounce looking back at Silvertail giving her a smirk.
"I'm sorry if you never knew, but it's clear you are all hiss and no bite." Darting my head back and jumping at his small figure pinning him. "You can cut me up as much as you want but something you can't break is my claws that will dig into your neck." I hear a sickening laugh from the large tom watching the fight happening before his eyes.
"It's funny before you were a vole now you are an adder, but you may have the bite yet no battle tactics rather than run and attack and now Troutpaw kill the adder by the tail." Troutpaw rolled out of my pin and grabbed my tail throwing it and most like a kit would to a moss ball, high in the air and letting it land. When I landed the force of the fall pushed me down and felt like I contoured my legs like no way they should. As the pain ran up my leg and back, I tried getting up, but my muscles were still in shock and could not move even if the best herbs are used." You know most she-cats land on their feet nowadays," he gave a deviously proud smirk at me and looked back to Troutpaw " well time to test that theory Troutpaw this time from a tree..." I followed the smaller tom out of camp to the first tree he saw it was tall and a lot of branches to fall.
I tried to climb up using my claws as anchors I slowly began my climb trying not to look down, but me trying to stop me made the urge more and more powerful. A yowl broke my trance that my mind was in waiting for the time I drop my head. "Wow for a big cat you sure are slow!" His laughter stung my open wound getting the crisp air as I have only marked down six fox tails of the tree with my claw marks. My movement trying to avoid the branches of the tree I saw how he beat me up there although I started first. A smaller tree was almost at hop distance from a broad and stable branch, as I tried to jump the branches as I assumed he did as they were closer, to get higher up the tree, thankfully my claws saved me from falling twice as I got to the branch I saw him on waiting for the next part so I can be ready for the fall down. It was quiet no signs of him not on the ground or of the branches of the grand oak.
But it was unbelievable up there I could see it all WindClan was on a Mesa like hill it was beautiful up there no fears and no change all just one climb away." How in all of the StarClan could I have ever missed this? It's so grand and peaceful up here. The wind in my face is amazing. I wish I was a bird so, and could always but up here." I cooed to myself as the calm air blows in my face and I give off a silent sigh of the fresh air building up here and the cold, wet mist of morning dew was melting into my fur. All of this was perfect, and nothing could ruin this moment! Until I heard him again his yowls from below. I sigh and wait for what he had to say.
"Hey crow food what's taking so long?" This yowl at my ears as darted my head around then seeing the grunt and bane of my existence down below.
"Come on jump down we don't want to call you mentor! Because she can't help you down from there!" The apprentice yowled at me as I looked down at them I started to notice how far I was up it was sickening for all the beauty I will take back the fear part it was terrifying up here! My paws grew shaky as I started to notice nothing was up here to help me down not only the branches could quite hurt, but the Leafs could blind my fall! Well, more than I already am.
I was clinging to the branch with my claws holding on to it will save my life in which it may. Until I heard cracking, with pure anxiety I jumped off the branch as I feared of it falling and no other way but holding on. The fall was painful tumbling each and every branch on the way I felt like it would never stop! Until a sharp pain in my ear torn at my head shocking and making my ears ring, as no sounds except the feeling of pain ran through my mind, I landed in a bush but the thorns of the branches cut my bruises more with all pressure put on them and now the cuts stinging the already in pain parts of my body it was unbearable as it felt like every heart beat was more and more horrific as I tried to escape the bramble but only cutting myself more. As my yowl rang through the territory, I heard nothing, but I did see the leader want to pull me out of the bush as Silvertail was beside her. I slowly regained my hearing as all,it seemed like yelling sound like whispering. But when I could finally hear I was surprised at what I heard.
"ARE YOU MOUSE BRAINED? NO SMART OR LOGICAL CAT WOULD THROW A SHE-CAT OUT OF A TREE! BROTHER, I THOUGHT YOU KNEW BETTER THAN THAT AND NOW LOOK AT HER!" The quiet and patient Silvertail was holding her own and yelling with the force of five floods, but some of me were not that surprised as she is the eldest of her litter so she may tell off her brothers a lot. As she yells at her brother for being a mouse brain, and making her apprentice fall out of a tall pine tree. As I am telling myself being a scared kit and that this is not the reason, Cottonkit seems to look up to me as I have half my paws out of a bush and my tail hanging out like a target for mocking and jokes for moons to come. But I was scared of cracking of a leaf or even another branch so why did I even panic?
"All right all-" Mistystar had her jaw stuck in a motion of sentence, but no sound was coming out. "Silvertail you may need to look at this and best right now." Silvertail walked over as her anger turned into surprise then back to anger, this time, move fury behind her roars at Riverclaw. "Come along let's take you to Willowshine she is our second best bet." As the leader guided me through camp whispers and gasp emerged from the toms and the kits of the clan. "Willowshine I know you are no longer a medicine cat, but Wildpaw requires your help." A long pause follows as the medicine cat can not even find what was wrong with me." In her face area, I leave you to help her now."
Oddly the old she-cat was already in the medicine cat den as she was most likely grabbing herbs for her and her fellow elders." Ok sit still now this will sting." She rubbed the cobweb on the moss that is still wet from last night's storm as she pressed it to my ear and faced the wounds felt the water supply run in and it felt like my face was on fire. "Ok now let's get those bramble thorns out. Oh, and I know just the cat to help with you back while I do your face. Cottonkit I require your help." The small kit was outside by the fresh kill playing with the bone and playing with another kit tugging on it.
"Yes, Willowshine? What do you need do you need some prey or a cat?" The little kit mewed her speaking was a bit muffled still, as I was still regaining my hearing. But I can still hear Silvertail scolding her brother.
"No, but I need you to pull out the thorns in Wildpaw's back." The kit nodded and hopped on my still bruised back and started pulling out the thorns but not as carefully as Willowshine was at least the bleeding stopped as I felt no more blood trickling down my back.
"So Willowshine what punishment do you think Riverclaw and Troutpaw will get for making me fall out of a tree?" I mewed waiting for the sharp pain to stop as my face was much more in pain than the hopping kit pulling out thorns as I got up to the quick and intense pain she did Willowshine was taking her sweet time.
"Why do you assume punishment? From what I heard you are screaming I thought another badger came for you." Willowshine mewed as she was almost done getting the thorns out yet I still felt pain more near the top of my head.
"What do you mean by another, did an attack happen recently?" I looked at Willowshine's face looked confused and then she stuttered as she try's to think of a new response."Uh, then Willowshine can you explain to me why Riverclaw has that name I figured you couldn't be named after a clan's name."
"Well, his name was not always that. When they were kits, those three gone into a lot of trouble trying to fit in. Silvertail was mocked and called mouse for her well. Shorter legs, one of her brothers named Averykit got caught in a flood and tried holding on to rocks as the nursery got flooded, but his claws could not hang on and let's just say he could not sheath them after that. Mistystar thought they should change his name to a more fitting name in which was Riverkit, but that never got him down. Nope, he wanted to be a warrior and at any cost so he never let his unfortunate mishap stop him and he wears that name with honor now."
I looked at the area as Silvertail was talking to Mistystar " but was that name not degrading or hard to live with?" Willowshine smiled at my question and laughed and shook her head.
"An elder name is like a scar. You wear it proud as it means you are not a victim but a survivor." Willowshine wiped the fur that covered my scar and licked my face on one of the open wounds. "Remember that and let no other cat tell you otherwise." Those words stuck with me, and it may never leave me.
