No!

My heart pounding, I cried out in fear. "Longtail, no!" I dashed after him, my paws skimming over the forest floor. I rushed I to the elders den to find him searching the floor of the den.

"Right around here..." the blind elder muttered. "Longtail, leave it! We have to get out!" I shouted. He nodded and said, "I know, I know. Just let me get the mouse for Mousefur."

That was when I heard it.

A loud groan echoed throughout the clearing. My heart stopped when I saw where it came from. A large tree was tipping over, about to fall into camp.

We were going to die.

A single tear trailed down my face as the tree fell. The world seemed to stop around me, as if in slow motion, and the only thing I could hear was the horrible ringing in my ears.

I heard a scream, and I wondered if it was Longtail. I realized with a pang of shock that the scream had come from my own lips. I heard myself call Longtail's name, but I didn't know what I was doing. I closed my eyes and prepared for the end.

My life flashed before my eyes in a matter of seconds. I heard a loud crash, and then there was just pain.

Pain.

It was nothing I had ever felt before. My whole lower body felt like it was both on fire and being run over by a monster at the same time. I opened my eyes and tried to scream in pain, but I couldn't breath. Black fuzzies danced at the edge of my vision, and I shut my eyes once more. Then all the pain faded away and all I saw was black.

When I woke up, there was less pain. Some, but not much. My lower body was completely numb.

Part of me was relieved that the pain was gone, but I couldn't help but feel that something was terribly, terribly wrong...
