Contest Entree (#7): Wolfyfang

Contest #7: Stonekit's POV

I could feel Bluefur tense when we bounded up to her, yawning and mewling. She seemed distressed. It didn't feel right to witness it without doing anything. I looked up at her loving blue eyes, treasuring them.

"Come along, Stonekit," Bluefur whispered, her voice cracking as she nudged me to the Nursery, "Time to sleep."

I was too tired to protest, Mistykit, Mosskit and I had a blast today! We played Mossball, then listened to the elders stories... Oh! And those mangy ShadowClanners attacked. No, just kidding! The elders did though. I tripped on a pebble, landing nose-first into the cool night sand. I could see Mosskit and Mistykit chuckling as Bluefur used a paw to help make me stand upright. Mosskit and Mistykit bounded up ahead, but I was too tired to run after them.

Its not like I couldn't beat them in a race though I thought defiantly, raising my chin as I entered the Nursery. As Bluefur settled down Mosskit and Mistykit flopped down beside her, nosing her fur and pressing close to her, she wrapped her tail around them and put her can on the dry bracken nest. I settled down on the other side if her, pushing my stoney-grey fur against her blue pelt. I closed my eyes admiring her sleek muscles under her soft coat, letting myself being washed in darkness, my thoughts drifting away into dreams.

"Grrr!" I growled as I leapt towards the butterfly, using my strong hindlegs to boost my jump. Suddenly, the sunny day turned black and the butterfly disappeared I yelped as enormous blue eyes replaced them. I snapped back to the real world.

"Stonekit, Stonekit wake up." Bluefur Mewed, gently nosing me awake. I grumbled as I shook away my sleepiness, stretching my paws.

Once we were all awake, Bluefur explained to us that we were playing a game called "Spy Adventure." I jumped up and down in excitement. Mistykit and Mosskit, who were just as excited responded with only gleaming eyes, glinting in the hint of curiosity. Bluefur led us through camp and helped us make our through the thorn barrier. I bounded forward in delight once we reached the open forest, I had completely forgotten how tired I was, but Mosskit and Mistykit looked like they were ready to fall asleep on their paws.

"The trees are so big." I breathed, flicking up the snow of leaf-bare in delight, sneezing when it tickled my nose. Bluefur shushed me with a quick flick of her tail and padded through the snow, constantly halting to make sure we were following.

We walked for what I through was centuries and my tiredness was getting the best of me, I tried my hardest not to fall asleep on my paws. But once I couldn't resist the willingness of falling down into the frosty snow, I whined, "Mama, I'm tired."

Bluestar halted, and I saw her tense as she did the night before, a flash of uncertainty went through her eyes, but quickly vanished. She nodded. "Ok, we can rest here." She decided, moving some snow with her paws so we could lay down. I walked over and collapsed onto the snow, Mosskit and Mistykit beside me. I tried to sleep, despite my shivering against the cold snow. Mistykit's flank was shuddering and Mosskit's whole body was trembling. I took a deep breath, breathing in the warm scent of my sisters, letting it be warm and gentle breeze that rocked me to sleep.

The next morning I woke up, on the cold floor, I felt a cold nose press against my fur, shaking me gently. Mistykit, who had fallen asleep behind me had started to stir.

"Stonekit, Mistykit, Mosskit, wake up." I heard my mother whisper. After a moment's pause I heard her say again, this time her voice came in a desperate wail, "Mosskit? Mosskit!?"

I could hear a voice whisper, despite the cold breeze rustling the branches of the trees. But I couldn't make out the words. I had started to stumble ahead, pressing close to Mistykit for warmth. We waited.

Bluefur joined us a few moments later, nudging us. I looked up at her with round eyes, "Mama, where's Mosskit?"
