Contest Entree (#2): Wolfyfang

Seedpaw P.O.V

I always feel like Bramblestar favours the warriors, and its unfair that we apprentices can't do warriors duties! I mean, were suppose to be in training to be come warriors! I swiped an earth full of ground, frustrated.

Know it all, Bramblestar, I thought, scowling. Know it all warriors. I followed the warriors as they padded away. I shot a glance at my sister, Lilypaw, who looked just as disappointed to not have gotten the Stick of Fallen. I bet with her help, we could both get it!

"Lilypaw." I whispered. "Lets go get the Stick of Fallen!"

Lilypaw sighed, I sniffed in discuss as I figured she was defeated. "What's the point?" She asked.

"We could become warriors!" I pointed out. "Besides, RiverClan do it all the time! I don't see why we can't do it now."

Lilypaw looked unconvinced. "I still think it's a bad idea, it could be dangerous."

I snorted, if Lilypaw wasn't willing to do it, I was, and I would do it! "Fine!" I growled, my frustration getting the best of me, "Don't go! Because I am going, with your, or without!"

I stormed away, a pang of guilt hit me, Lilypaw was only trying to look out for me.

And I'll look after the Stick of Fallen! I thought lifting up my chin.

Moments later Lilypaw caught up to me, "You aren't seriously going, are you?"

I blinked, "Why not?"

"It could be-"

"Dangerous I know, but imagine what happens if we get it!"

This got Lilypaw thinking, "Fine." She said after a brief hesitation, "I'll come with you, but only because I won't let you do it alone."

"Good enough for me." I muttered, turning away and leading the way to the lake. Once we reached the lake, I felt the my blood go cold. The waves were thrashing, and the water was as cold as ice when I pawed it. I felt a cold dread weigh me down.

"Regretting your decision NOW?" Lilypaw teased, but I could see a flash of unease go through her eyes. She was trying to persuade me not to do it.

That's not happening! I thought with a flash of defiance. "If your so cool, you can go first!" I replied smugly. Lily paws expression read that she'd rather eat crowfood once a day.

"Then I will go first!" She countered, bunching her muscles and diving into the chilly water. For a few seconds her head didn't appear near the surface. I looked closer. Lilypaw was fighting her way through the current to stay out of the water. A shiver ran through my bones.

"You can do it!" I whispered, trying to will myself into believing. But as her head bobbed away I knew she couldn't.

"Seedpaw!" A voice yowled. It was Bramblestar. The ThunderClan leader was racing toward us, but I knew he wouldn't make it in time. I flattened my ears and jumped.

SPLASH!

An immediate shiver courses through my body, the water was as cold as ice! The currents were strong, and with each wave, I felt myself giving in.

StarClan help me, I prayed, fighting my way to the top of the surface, my ears were now ringing and my lungs were gasping for air. As I reached the surface, I felt my fur, all wet and soaked, weighing me down, but I didn't care, taking a huge gulp of air, I held my breath and dived, for a second, everything was blurry underwater, but then my sight cleared. I saw Likypaw giving in, and a tangled patch of seaweed hanging on her foot. I swam deeper, ignoring the taste of air my lungs were begging for. As I reached the seaweed, my instincts took over, I bit through the underwater plants, willing my sister to get up and swim to the surface. Once I bit the last one free, I felt my eyes giving away to darkness.

Only one of us can make it, I realized. And that one will be her. I thought fiercely, with a final and massive push. I guided her to the surface, and Lilypaw, now conscious, fought her way to the top, I was relieved to see Bramblestar reach for her scruff and grab it successfully. Lilypaw was safe. That was all I had to know. I gave up struggling and closed my eyes, allowing a dizzying blackness to wash over me.
