Chapter Ten

Frostleap

"StarClan!"

Frostleap gave Thornstep a questioning look before checking on the other cats. Falconblaze was fine other than a bite on his hindleg, and Dawnlight, the RiverClan deputy was alive but she was unconscious.

Frostleap nodded to the exit, motioning for Thornstep to get the kits and bring them back in. Thornstep obeyed and when he came back with the kits, mewed.

"StarClan sent me a dream about two glowing cats!"

Frostleap looked at him in bewilderment, "You can tell Mudstar and Amberdawn when we get back. Now can you carry Dawnlight?"

Thornstep nodded silently, turning to gently pick up the RiverClan cat.

Mudstar

Stonepelt paced in Mudstar's den, her worry and concern showing in her sharp turns and her jagged breaths.

"They should've been back by now!" She hissed, her ears flattening.

"Relax, I'm sure they are fine." Mudstar meowed calmly, his ears twitching in concern for the agitated she-cat.

"Oh, my dear mate... My lovely kit... Why did I let you go?" Stonepelt mewed sorrowfully, suddenly her attention snapped to Mudstar. "You! You made them go!"

"Actually, Brokenkit suggested it like a brave warrior would have." Mudstar countered.

"My mate and kit are probably dead because of you!" Stonepelt continued as though she hadn't heard him. "You-"

A loud yowl came from outside and both cats rushed out to see the patrol limping into the clearing with a heavily wounded white and gray tom between them. Frostleap rushed to them.

"Mudstar! We have Wolfcry," she informed him, "And the kits but..." She trailed off as Falconblaze limped forward and placed the limp form of Silverkit down before his leader.

"This one was killed before we arrived," Falconblaze meowed in a rough, prickly voice as he set the kit's body down.

Mudstar nodded solemnly, watching as Stonepelt bowled Falconblaze over with gentle licks and affectionate nuzzles.

While Stonepelt drowned Falconblaze in affection, Mudstar heard the familiar meow of a tiny kit he knew.

"Don't worry," Brokenkit's meow rang close by, "Mudstar is really nice." Then the patter of tiny paws came from his right, turning he noticed Brokenkit and Thornkit leading two other kits toward him.

"Hi, Mudstar," Thornkit purred as they stopped in front of the brown tom.

"Hello," the leader greeted them kindly, "Who are these?"

"This is Lionkit and Sparrowkit," Brokenkit answered when the two hesitated, each throwing her a grateful glance. "We saved them."

Thornkit nodded enthusiastically, "I thought it was going to be boring but it turned out really exciting!"

"And dangerous," Mudstar bristled slightly at the thought of the brave young kit being bloodthirsty and violent. "We might lose some cats."

Thornkit and Brokenkit shared a look, "Goldenwing!" They mewed urgently in unison, both of them whirled toward the medicine den as one and pelted a cross camp towards it.

Lionkit and Sparrowkit were left standing stiffly next to the ThunderClan leader, their fear scent wafting into his nose. "Stonepelt, take care of these kits. Falconblaze, take it easy and have Amberdawn and Doepaw check you over."

Mudstar rose to his paws and padded after the two ThunderClan kits, his amusement fading as he entered the medicine den to find Amberdawn, exhausted, working on both Dawnlight, Seawhisper, Blackpaw and Goldenwing. Doepaw helped her by retrieving herbs and making poltices.

"Are they going to be okay?" Brokenkit was asking worriedly as she and Thornkit pestered the frantic medicine cats.

"Amberdawn," Mudstar meowed urgently, "Will they live?"

"Goldenwing is fine," Doepaw answered for her mentor, "Dawnlight just needs a few herbs. Seawhisper's lungs are permanently damaged, and Blackpaw won't be able to see as well as he had been."

Mudstar nodded his head as he escorted the satisfied kits out of the medicine den. "See? They're fine."

"I want to be a medicine cat now!" Brokenkit mewed thoughtfully.

Thornkit's eyes glinted in disappointment and surprise, his tail starting to droop until Mudstar meowed.

"Medicine cats can't take a mate or have kits," he meowed, "Is that really what you want?"

Brokenkit's mismatched eyes went wide in disappointment, "No! I want to have my own kits one day..."

Mudstar supressed a amused pur as he saw Thornkit relax and his tail wave causally.

Thornkit, Splashkit, and Squirrelkit are six moons now... And it's about time Blackpaw and Snowpaw were warriors... Mudstar suddenly thought, his fur bristling in shock at his forgetfulness. Leaping up to Highledge, he yowled, "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey, gather here under the Highledge for a Clan meeting!"

Mudstar was delighted to see Snowpaw, Blackpaw, and Seawhisper come out of the medicine den on wobbly paws.

When most of the cats of ThunderClan and some from RiverClan had gathered, Mudstar began. "First of all, RiverClan has found their kits and will stay until their deputy is ready to go back. You may bury Silverkit here if you wish," he received several protests at this but decided to continue. "I would also like to accept two new warriors. Blackpaw, step forward."

When the apprentice came forward, Mudstar finally saw what Doepaw had meant; a long scratch ran from his left ear and crossed over his eye to end near his nose. His scarred eye was a milky color.

"I, Mudstar of ThunderClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. He has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend him to you as a warrior in his turn. Blackpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend this Clan, even at the cost of your life?"

"I do." Came Blackpaw's clear meow, even though his battle scarred pelt was wobbly and exhausted, his eyes still showed his pride.

"Then by the powers of StarClan I give you your warrior name; Blackpaw, from this moment you will be known as Blackscar. StarClan honors your bravery and your loyalty, and we welcome you as a full warrior of ThunderClan."

Mudstar came forward to rest his muzzle on Blackscar's head, in turn the newly made warrior licked his shoulder. Stepping away, Mudstar could hear the cheers from the Clan.

"Blackscar! Blackscar!"

"We also have another warrior," Mudstar yowled above the noise. "Snowpaw, step forward."

The she-cat came forward and Mudstar could see several scratches on her slim shoulders and one of her ears were torn and covered in cobwebs.

"I, Mudstar of ThunderClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend her as a warrior in her turn. Snowpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend this Clan, even at the cost of your life?"

"I do," Snowpaw mewed, her eyes glimmering in excitement and endless energy.

"Then by the powers of StarClan I give you your warrior name; Snowpaw, from this moment you will be known as Snowflight. StarClan honors your speed and kindness, and we welcome you as a full warrior of ThunderClan."

Snowflight met Mudstar halfway and the leader rested his muzzle on her head, the new warrior copying Blackscar by licking his shoulder and pulling away.

"Snowflight! Snowflight!" The Clan cheered.

"Now," Mudstar raised his voice to be heard, "We have apprentices to name."

The Clan quieted and waited for him to continue.

"Splashkit, Thornkit, and Squirrelkit, come forward." Mudstar called the three brothers. When they did as he had instructed, he continued, "Heathergaze, I believe you are ready for an apprentice. You will be mentor to Splashpaw."

The she-cat's eyes widened in surprise and cheer as she came forward to meet the new apprentice.

"Heathergaze," Mudstar continued, "You have shown yourself to be a warrior of loyalty and strength. Do your best to pass on these qualities to Splashpaw."

Heathergaze and Splashpaw touched noses and the Clan cheered Splashpaw's new name.

"Frostleap," Mudstar meowed when he could be heard, "Darktail believes you are ready to take on an apprentice. You will be mentor to Thornpaw."

The wounded warrior limped forward to stand next to the apprentice.

"Frostleap, you have shown yourself to be a warrior of courage and speed. Do your best to pass on these qualities to Thornpaw."

Frostleap and Thornpaw touched noses just before the cheering began again, even RiverClan were starting to join in.

"And finally, Thornstep," Mudstar meowed, "You've proven your capabilities to both me and Darktail. You will mentor Squirrelpaw."

The energetic apprentice scrambled to meet Thornstep before turning to wait for Mudstar.

"Thornstep, You have shown yourself to be a warrior of wisedom and intellect. Do your best to pass on these qualities to Squirrelpaw."

The two touched noses to finish the ceremony and cheers went up as they separated.

"This Clan meeting is dismissed!"

(I'm super sorry
for the long chapter!
I just needed to get in
the ceremonies!)
