Chapter 7

"Morningpaw," Jumbledstar called out, "from this moment you will be known as Morningflower," the ShadowClan leader then jumped down from his high rock and laid his chin on the golden she-cat's head. "StarClan honors your cleverness and grace, and we welcome you as a full warrior of ShadowClan."

"Quakepaw," Jumbledstar turned to the tabby's brother, "from this moment you will be known as Quakefoot," Jumbledstar set his head on the white tom's head, "StarClan honors your wit and spirit, and we welcome you as a full warrior of ShadowClan."

"Tramplepaw," finally Jumbledstar went to the grey-black tom, "from this moment you will be known as Trampleheart, StarClan honors your determination and speed, and we welcome you as a full warrior of ShadowClan."

"Morningflower! Quakefoot! Trampleheart!" the Clan called out. The kits jumping around Yellowstone who was speaking to Goldenpelt. The golden she-cat was spending more time with Frightwing and at the nursery. Mousepelt began to wonder if the two were expecting.

"Prepare for your silent vigil tonight." Jumbledstar instructed the new warriors before turning to his den.

"I can't wait to be a warrior!" Vinekit mewed.

"You still need to be an apprentice," Yellowstone explained to her kit.

"But that's gonna take too long!" the tortoise shell she-kit complained.

"It'll take longer if you continue to leave camp!" Stoneheart shot. Vinekit flicked her stubby tail before going in to the nursery.

That's when Frightwing and Goldenpelt walked in with prey in their jaws. The kits saw Goldenpelt drag an adder and were immediately interested. They ran over and began hitting the fresh-kill.

"Can we have this, Yellowstone?" Silverkit called to her mother.

Goldenpelt dropped her catch in front of the kits and pushed it to them. "Have at it!"

The kits let out a happy mew and began to gobble up their food. "I'll go get Vinekit!" Midnightkit bounced and ran to the nursery.

After a long while, Midnightkit came out. "Yellowstone, Vinekit's gone!" her siblings cursed under their breath as the Clan went off.

"Limptail, Morningflower, and Mousepelt," Jumbledstar called out, "go get that kit and bring her back!"

The three bounded out the camp and searched for the troublesome kit. Mousepelt tried sniffing for any sign of the kit's scent. They came to the border, but they stopped when they saw a ThunderClan patrol. Amberheart was with them and Mousepelt didn't want her to help look for Vinekit again. It would be embarrassing for Jumbledstar if his kit was saved by an enemy Clan warrior again.

"Let's go this way," Limptail pointed with his tail to a different direction of Amberheart. Mousepelt followed quickly after her Clanmates, avoiding Amberheart, she didn't want ThunderClan thinking ShadowClan was ignoring its kits.

As they kept searching, the warriors found Vinekit's scent, but it ended at a huge pine tree.

"Alright," Limptail growled, "she's around here somewhere, let's split up and if one of us finds her, retrieve the rest of us."

"Right," both Morningflower and Mousepelt nodded before pelting off to different directions. Mousepelt sniffed around the area, but could only smell stale prey and long gone fox. Then Quakefoot's scent overcame her.

Mousepelt spun around to see the white tom with Vinekit pouting in his jaws, dangling by the scruff.

"Where was she?" Mousepelt growled.

"Hiding up in that tree," Quakefoot answered through the fur on Vinekit's neck.

"We'd better get everyone and return her to camp." Mousepelt sighed.

Vinekit didn't say anything as they returned to camp. Jumbledstar and Yellowstone looked angrily at their kit as the leader called her forward and told her that he'd discuss her punishment with Yellowstone, Snaketooth, and Coldeyes. Vinekit made her way to the nursery as Silverkit ran up to Jumbledstar. The black she-kit was worried that, because of Vinekit, her and the toms wouldn't be made apprentices for another moon. But Jumbledstar just demanded she go back to the nursery.

Stoneheart and Frightwing watched as Silverkit disappeared in to the nursery. They both began speaking to each other in hushed tone and, with ears lowered, Frightwing went to join Goldenpelt, Smoothpelt, and Moonpaw.

Mousepelt got the feeling the two wanted the sisters for apprentices. She then thought about Midnightkit and Ravenkit. Who would be their mentors? She looked around the Clan to see who would be able to care for apprentices. Goldenpelt was older than Frightwing, so she would be a good choice. But she seemed to spend so much time with Frightwing that she might expect kits soon. If Ravenclaw returned he would definitely get Ravenkit. Who would get Midnightkit? Crazyfeather was overdue to have an apprentice, so he would probably get him.

Then again, Crazyfeather was a little on the squirrel like side. Mousepelt doubted Jumbledstar and Yellowstone could trust the grey tom with one of their kits.

Limptail and Brokenjaw beckoned Mousepelt over so that they could share tongues and share fresh-kill. She refused and went to give Coldeyes a vole. She needed a friend to talk to and all the warriors seemed busy.

Coldeyes was counting how many poppy seeds he had in stock. By the look of it, he was running low and it was going to be hard with leaf-bare dangerously close. Mousepelt set the vole down and sat down.

"I brought you some fresh-kill," Mousepelt announced.

Coldeyes turned and looked down at the prey. "You didn't have to do that, Mousepelt," Coldeyes spoke, "Ashpaw had already gotten me some prey earlier."

"I also needed an excuse to not eat with Limptail and Brokenjaw," Mousepelt admitted, "I don't know why, but I can't stop blaming them for Ravenclaw being taken..."

"Mousepelt, he will return," Coldeyes reassured, "just keep showing Limptail you're not interested, he's bound to give up sooner or later, not to mention the half moon is coming, so I'll see if StarClan can give us a clue as to where he is."

"Thank you," Mousepelt dipped her head, before walking out the medicine den. She then went to the nursery to see if anyone was watching the kits.

"I'm the one who left camp," Vinekit snapped, "why should you be stuck in here with me, when you're all a bunch of goody two paws!"

"Because, of your foolishness we could all suffer the consequences," Silverkit spat, "we're kin after all!"

"Enough you two!" Mousepelt ordered, stepping in. "You won't know until Jumbledstar comes up with a suitable punishment!"

Vinekit huffed before curling up in to a small ball. Silverkit went to the other side of the nursery and did the same. Midnightkit and Ravenkit shared a concerned look before going to their nest and lying down as well.
