Chapter 4
The warrior's den felt cold without Ravenclaw lying next to her. It didn't change anything when Limptail decided to lie down next to Mousepelt to help her sleep. She lied a wake, her head on her paws. No matter what the cats did, Mousepelt felt alone without Ravenclaw. She had been so deep in thought she didn't realize the sun was beginning to rise and the warriors were waking up to walk out the den.
"How'd you sleep?" Limptail yawned.
"I didn't." Mousepelt admitted.
Limptail looked worrying at her. "They'll find him," the skinny cream colored tom laid his tail on Mousepelt's flank, "don't worry, no ones given up hope."
Mousepelt got to her paws and stepped out the warrior's den. Viperfang was growling something at Snaketooth, saying he should have tried saving Ravenclaw. Mousepelt ignored the golden she-cat and headed over to Brokenjaw, who was gathering cats for patrol.
"Do you need me to go with you?" Mousepelt asked. Brokenjaw looked at Mousepelt, guilt in his eyes, confusing thr brown she-cat. He then looked o very to the warrior's den where Limptail came out and stretched.
"Uh, no," Brokenjaw finally answered, "you... You go with Limptail on the sun high patrol." He then walked out the camp with Stoneheart, Quakepaw, Figitfoot, and Crazyfeather.
Mousepelt let out a sigh before heading to the fresh-kill pile. She looked at the prey, but nothing looked good. She flicked her tail before trotting off to Coldeyes. The light grey tom was looking through his shop of herbs. He turned his head slightly then looked back at his herbs.
"What is it Mousepelt?" He asked, not looking back.
"Has StarClan told you anything about Ravenclaw?" Mousepelt asked, her head and ears lowered.
Coldeyes lowered his head and let out a sympathetic sigh. "I'm afraid not..."
Mousepelt felt like her heart was being shattered more and more each day without the warrior.
"I'm sure if something terrible happened to him, StarClan would tell me." Coldeyes assured turned.
"But he shouldn't be with Twolegs!" Mousepelt meowed. "He should be here with us!" The brown she-cat pelted off out the camp and ran to the tunnels. She slowed down and lied down distraught.
That's when Amberheart jumped out from no where. Mousepelt got to her paws in surprise at seeing her friend in the tunnels.
"Amberheart?" Mousepelt tilted her head. "What are you doing here?"
"I... I was just thinking... About something..." Amberheart kneading the ground.
"What?" Mousepelt sat up.
"I caught a kittypet in ThunderClan territory so, I tried scaring him off, but I ended up asking him if he's seen Ravenclaw-" Amberheart explained.
"Did he?" Mousepelt stood up, her full attention on the golden she-cat.
"No," Amberheart answered lowering her head, "but... Whisperstar saw me talking to him and asked if I... Wanted to go back..."
Mousepelt picked her ears up, wondering if she heard correctly. "Well, you don't... Do you?"
"I don't know..." Amberheart admitted.
"What do you mean you don't know?" Mousepelt demanded. "You suggested we come here, you told me to stay, and we need to stop Silversol before she hurts someone else, what about Skyleaf and Yellowstone, they need us to protect their kits!"
"Yeah... But... Sourtongue died... I wasn't able to save him!" Amberheart yowled.
"I wasn't able to save Frogstump or Ravenclaw, but I'm not giving up!" Mousepelt snapped. "I need to defeat Silversol for them and the kits!"
"And if you don't?" Amberheart pressed.
"Then I'll keep fighting until my very last breath!" Mousepelt answered.
"You would keep trying to stop her at the cost of your own life, even if she killed every queen and kit?" Amberheart asked.
"Of course!" Mousepelt responded.
"It would be all for nothing though, the queens and kits would be dead and what would Ravenclaw do if you died and he returned just to hear you died!"
"I would do it for him, this is more than just saving those queens and kits, I'm doing it to avenge the death of Hollyforest, Ravenclaw loved her before I came to live here and Silversol needs to pay for hurting him!"
"And what if he's dead?" Amberheart pressed.
"Then there's nothing left for me to live for." Mousepelt flicked her tail before turning and leaving.
"We'll just end up dying for nothing if she kills everyone!" Mousepelt could hear Amberheart cry, but Mousepelt wasn't going to give up, even if she's the last warrior standing. But right now, she wanted Ravenclaw by her side.
Mousepelt trekked through the forest with Limptail, Goldenpelt, Smoothpelt, and Morningpaw. She caught a frog, but the juicy scent did make Mousepelt's stomach grumble. She couldn't eat. Not without Ravenclaw or Amberheart by her side. After the next Gathering would be the Daylight Gathering. Mousepelt didn't know what she would do if Ravenclaw wasn't there to cheer her on.
She stopped for a moment to look up at the cloudy leaf-fall sky. If Ravenclaw was trying to make his way home now, Mousepelt prayed he come back before leaf-bare. Smoothpelt stopped too, but to only to get Mousepelt to move along.
That night, Mousepelt took the vigil, just to look up at Silverpelt and wonder if Ravenclaw was looking at it too. Wherever he was, Mousepelt just hoped he was being treated well, or knew where he was and weather or not he could return.
Then she thought about Amberheart. Mousepelt hoped she'd see her again. In ThunderClan and not back in Twoleg place. The golden she-cat was going to have to learn that this wasn't going to be an easy mission to accomplish.
