The Announcement

The grey she-cat stretched as the early morning sun filtered through the leaves of the warriors den. Beside her slept Briarthorn, the brown she-cats flank rose slowly and softly, everything was alright for a moment. It was amiable.

Suddenly, Frozenthunders muzzle burst into the den. "Get out and hunt!" He hissed softly, his eyes sparkling menacingly. Robinflight bit back a sharp retort and got up slowly, careful not to wake the other warriors.

'No, they weren't warriors anymore,' Robinflight thought sadly, her head hanging. She inched towards the edge of camp quietly as the sun began to rise. Gracefully, she ducked her head and got into the forest. A blanket of snow covered most of the ground. New-leaf was sure to come soon. Hopefully.

Robinflight spotted a mouse rummaging through a pile of dead leaves underneath a maple tree. She wiggled her haunches and pounced, landing directly on the mouse. Robinflight bent down and nipped the neck, killing it instantly. The tawny grey she-cat picked up the mouse with slight pride, but than was crushed as she realized this was a pitiful offering to an entire clan.

Her blue eyes where diminished as she lifted her head, searching for more food. Robinflight returned sometime before sun-high. She held only the small, scrawny mouse from earlier. The soft light shone directly on the clearing. The camp was bursting with somber activity. The den that the had inhabited a medicine cat had been barren for many decades. They all knew the story because of their kit-hood. But that was the only standing remnant of the past still standing in ThunderClan.

The fresh-kill pile was barren as Robinflight set down her mouse. An apprentice slowly inched towards the pile. It was Silverpaw, she realized with alarm. With wide eyes Robinflight stepped back, letting the Dark forest she-cat take the only mouse from the pile. Swiftly the silver she-cat bounded up the rocks to the leaders den.

Robinflight shook her head. She wished the apprentice had the brains to let the queens have it. But she guessed that the old warrior code didn't have an effect on the deputy. Her neck fur bristled without her intending it to. The silver tabby she-cat crouched and wiggled her tail, trying to relax.

Robinflight knew she probably looked like a bee-brained sparrow with a feather problem, but it was a good stretch. Frozenthunder crept out of the den, his muzzle covered with tiny hairs and with a slight tinge of frozen blood. He yawned and curled on the ledge. Closing his eyes and curling his sleek tail over his nose.

Robinflight groaned as she realized that it had been the mouse she had caught. That mouse that she had killed fed the most traitorous soul in her clan. The parasite was feeding off their food. Her ears flicked in annoyance.

She turned heel and walked slowly out into the woods. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. Lying down in the cold snow. Slowly, she managed calmed down, sinking her claws in and out of the snow. Sinking into a sleep and let out one last breath before she lost consciousness, letting herself be taken by the lulling song of sleep.

Robinflight felt a sharp poke in her shoulder. She growled and rolled over, snow clinging to her normally sleek fur. A hard yank on her ear made her eyes snap open. "What?!" She hissed and stood up, looking at her so-called attacker. Standing before her was Falconwing.

"Um," he said, his eyes held a slight look of discomfort. But there was also something that Robinflight couldn't read.

"What is it?" She asked, cocking her head.

"Frozenthunder wanted me to come and find you, apparently it was something important." He finished too quickly. Robinflights thoughts drifted to puzzlement. Frozenthunder didn't call a meeting unless it was the... The games. No, it was too early for that.

Her breath quickened. She didn't want to deal with this, and the clan didn't have enough members to spare after the last games. Especially in leaf-bare. When Morningdew had...Robinflight shook her head. Trying to think rationally, and logically

"Come to the clearing," Falconwing urged. Robinflight nodded, walking with Falconwing back to camp.

When she got to the camp Frozenthunder was already on top of the highstone. With a clear voice, he called to Thunderclan, "The time for the games has come,"

A shocked gasp went through the clan. Queens took their kits closer, and apprentices scampered back into the shadows around the camp. She noticed in particular that Applepaw, her apprentice had made eye contact with Silverpaw. His eyes held a look of worry, as did Silverpaws. Robinflights eyes narrowed. She knew that what ever was going to come of this wasn't going to be good.

This was going to be a long, starless night.
