1: Training Day

"Come on Alex! You've got to try harder than that if you want to beat James!" Papa yelled from across the field.

He was right of course. This was the first time that I was actually winning against James in a fist fight. Normally my brother would just wait for me to make the first move and then he would flip me and then I would be doomed. But this time I let him hit first. Now we were on the ground and I had my face in the dirt and both my hands pulled behind my back. James had one foot on my back and had both of my hands in his. From an outsiders eye, it looked like an older boy was attacking a poor little girl and she was close to her death bed, but in my family this was a normal everyday activity of Alex vs. her older brother James.

"You give up yet Pip?" My brother said with a grin.

"Not a chance, James!" I said while spitting out dirt from my face.

Pip was a nickname I gained from when I was little. Only James called me Pip, ever since I could remember. I think it was because I was always so small compared to the rest of my siblings. But for whatever reason the name stuck, and now every time we were fighting each other, James always made sure to ask that annoying question and use that cute little nickname, Pip.

"Alex! What are you doing? Flip him!" Papa yelled again.

"I don't think she can Papa! " Dan said, standing right next Papa.

That got me irritated. Whenever someone said I couldn't do something, I would immediately make it my mission in life to prove them wrong. So of course without even thinking, I twisted my legs against James other leg and flipped him. I rolled over and sat on top of him and pinned him to the ground and held him there. James seemed winded from the flip and actually started laughing once he saw me grinning from where I sat.

I counted down three and then got up and looked right at Dan from across the field.

"Sorry Dan what was that you said?" I asked with a smirk on my face.

Papa walked over laughing his head off and patted me on the shoulder while Dan walked over slowly and spitting his tongue out at me.

"Well you sure proved me wrong Pip!" James commented as he got up from the ground. I turned  to look down at my recently defeated brother and then back over to Dan who was still taking his sweet time to cross the field over to us.

"What do you mean?" I asked, "I thought I proved Dan wrong, not you."

"Ha! He wishes!" Taunted Dan as he walking closer to us. "You owe me 5 dollars little brother," Dan reminded the younger boy as he looking down on James.

The two looked a lot alike for brothers. They both had dark hair with bright Blue eyes, that some people thought were grey. They also were very close in height but Dan was still taller than James by a few inches. Dan was 21 and James had just turned 18 a few days ago. Than there was me. The odd one out. Unlike my brothers I had blonde hair that my father would sometimes joke about calling it golden hair. When I was little I actually believed him and would walk around town waving around my golden hair like it was some sort of treasure. Of course my brothers  make sure to never make me forget those days for even now they would sometimes walk around me pretending they were me at age 5 and would pretend to curl their hair. Some times James would go as far as to prance around the walk as he annoyed me. Stupid brother.

If I wasn't always so angry at them when they pretending to be mini me, I would have laughed along side them. Both brothers made excellent girly girls at times.

The only physical trait that I seemed to have inherited were my blue eyes. They are the same bright Blue/grey color as my brothers but apart from that, I was nothing like them.

"Okay you two that's enough! We have to finish before you can gain the rest of your bets," my father said splitting the boys apart.

"But wait!" I said looking at my brothers. "How did you know I was going to win Dan? You said it yourself, you thought I was going to lose because I couldn't flip James."

"Oh that was just a little trick I played on you Pip! You always seemed to do whatever I tell you you can't do. That's your flaw. So of course I used it against you. Now I have enough money for a new knife at the market." Dan replied, his eyes returning to glance over at James who returned his brother's look with a glare.

I looked startled for a moment. Boy, that was smart. I just need to find someone's flaw and then you can control them, just like my brother did to me. Of course saying all this made the end game to controlling people seem so easy. But I realized, in order to control a person by their flaw, I had to find their stupid flaw first.

Nothing is easy when it comes to people.

"Hey, lazy kids! Get your selves down to the forest! We're going to play hide and seek tag." Papa called over to us.

Hide and Seek tag was my favorite game to play at practice. It's not like most people would think. How you play is simple. You each get a pack that papa would make for each of us. Then he would say go and we would all have to run in the forest and hide. Then Papa would walk along and cause trouble for us. Your job was to try and capture him without him capturing you. You also have to be careful for the others who are playing. They could capture you and then you would be out. This game helped train us for stealth mode as my James jokingly would say to my father's displeasure.

My brothers and I grabbed our packs and waited at the starting line. My dad came out of the forest with a small smile on his face like he was about to cause some major trouble. Whenever we saw that smile on his face we knew we were doomed. And boy was I right.

"Ok you lot! For this round, you guys can not touch the ground once you hit the forest. In other words, I hope you guys are ready to climb some trees," he said with a grin.

Both my brothers looked at Papa annoyed while I just laughed.

Classic. Unlike my brothers, I loved heights and I climbed trees all the time. I knew that Papa had purposely set this rule in place just for me. And I wasn't going to pass the chance to beat James a second time in a row.

"GO!" Papa yelled and we ran.

Once we hit forest space I did a run up to the nearest tree and landed on the second highest branch. My other brothers were not so lucky with their run up sprints so they both landed flat on their backs.

"Bye-Bye!" I called from behind as I jumped onto the next tree a few feet away from me. I kept going from tree to tree for a little while until I was sure I was deep into the woods and away from my brothers. That's when I started making my first rope trap.

The thing with Papa is that since he is not exactly young anymore, he has problems sometimes with the placing of his feet. It would be a shame if he was to trip in the forest by something. Especially if it was something that resembled a rope trap.

I had never really used this rope trap before on Papa, but I have done it many times on game such as rabbits and squirels. In my bag I found a long rope that was at least 10 feet long. That was enough to make a big rope trap on Papa I thought.

Judging by the sky I could tell that at least an hour had passed since the game started, which means that Papa could be close. I hooked the rope trap on the branch closest to me and I tangled it with the vines and than hid it by the leaves on the ground.

I went along the trail planting three more of these traps for Papa just in case he missed one of the traps by chance. I had just planted the last one when I heard a snapping sound a few meters away. I jumped up to the nearest pine needle tree and hid at the very top and watched.

I just made it to the top when I saw James running down below looking back as if Papa was just behind him. I wasn't surprised to see James on the ground instead of up in a tree. I mean come on, like he could actually be able to jump from tree to tree without causing any attention on himself. The guy was over six feet tall. He did more damage on the ground than in a tree.

James was just about to step into the trap when he stopped. I knew he had better eye sight then Papa which meant that he probably would be able to see the trap if he took one more step. All he had to do was take one more step and then he would be trapped.

Come on I thought. I have to get his attention or something to make him walk over here.

But while I was considering what to do, James had found the line and a moment later had part of the trap in his hands. He looked up and made eye contact with me from where I sat in the tree.

Crap.

"Ha! Thought you could get me? Too slow Pip!" James taunted, dropping the end game trap back to the ground. While he was talking I self-consciously was going through my bag to see what I could use to throw at my brother. The first thing I felt was an apple.

When throwing objects at one's brother, a sister can not be too picky.

The moment he stood up fully to look at me after his taunting was my moment to throw the apple at him.

James was generally a better athlete than I was. If he knew that we were playing a game of "hit the other sibling in the head with an apple" challenge, I am sure he would have caught the apple before slamming into his forehead. But alas, he didn't, so the apple met it's mark causing James to stagger back surprised, catching his left foot in the process with my second rope trap that stood right behind him.

It was quite a beautiful success of "capture the brother".

"Yes!" I said and I jumped down from the tree. James was hanging from his foot up in the tree. His bag was dropped by his head and his hands were pulled behind his back by the trap. The apple that gave my brother a loving hit to the head lay a few feet from the tree.

"You put me in a rabbit trap!" He exclaimed with amusement. I had a sudden urge to curtsey at my brother at that moment but I held back.

I gave him a small smile instead.

I then grabbed his bag and looked through it. Nothing interesting was in there so I dropped it but I wrote on James head with blackberry juice a Capital A.

A for Alex.

"Now when Papa sees you, if he does see you that is, he will know that I captured you and that you're out!" I said with a smirk.

"Good to know," James stated with a hint of sarcasm. "Now will you be a doll and get me down at least before my face goes all red?"

With a sharp rock I found by Jame's bag, I broke the rope making James fall onto his head.

"Ouch! Pip could you next time make sure that I land on my feet instead of my head?" He asked a bit dramatically in my opinion while rubbing his head.

"Sorry there James," I said with not much emotion, "but I've got to go. Did you catch Dan yet?"

"What do you think?"

"I'm going to take that as a no." I said with a grin and I ran off.

I blame my confidence boost entirely for what happened next.

It turns out that Dan had set up a netted trap for me and because I somehow miscalculated Dan's apparent speed in the tree, for yes he did play by the rules and stay in the trees, he was still behind me. This played to Dan's favor since I ran straight into his fish net and was then wiped up from under my feet, the net hooking me up a few feet above the ground. Dan's amusement at catching me did not last long.

Papa was our trainer in the end and was of course the best of all of us. It turns out he was following me through out the game. Once both me and James were safely placed in our own traps respectfully, all Papa had to do was come up from behind Dan and give me a bear hug saying how he just captured Dan.

The game did not go on for that much longer. Today's exercise was intreating as always and yet tiring as normal. So it was no surprise when our staff found us later on asleep in the living room with fire blazing in the fire pit.

Classic Pickett family portrait.

Hey Guys!

Here is the first chapter. Sorry, there is no Peter Pan in it yet but don't worry. I'm getting there. I'm trying to make this story at least a little diffrent from the other Peter Pan stories that I have looked at so far.

I will try to put up the next chapter tomorrow.

Lots of Love
