You Are My Sunshine - Romaine
**HAHAHA IT'S BEEN A DAY IT'S TIME FOR THERAPEUTIC ANGST (sorry in advance)
I got this from a prompt. Okay so. TW: Death. Crying. Hospital themes? Mentions of violence and firearms. Little bit of blood. Let's go.**
The ambulance's lights colored the night red as it hustled down the road and pulled into the hospital parking lot. In the back, Tremaine was laying on a gurney, bleeding from a spot on his chest, each shaky breath seeming to get closer and closer to his last.
Roshan was crouched next to him. His eyes were locked on Tremaine, a couple of tears having already fell. He held Tremaine's hand in his own, the other clutching his prayer beads.
"Hold on, sweetheart," he was murmuring. "I promise it's gonna be okay, it'll all be okay. Just breathe, breathe for me, okay?"
The bullets had come out of nowhere, for no reason. Roshan and Tremaine had simply been walking through the night when it was sliced by the piercing round of gunshots that replayed in Roshan's mind like a scratched record.
The crew rushed Tremaine into a hospital room, beginning to run some tests on him.
Roshan stayed glued to Tremaine's side. Tremaine was still conscious, mumbling half-coherent words in attempts to tell Roshan that he was okay.
"Please don't leave me..." Roshan whispered.
"We'll be okay, Ro," answered the crackly voice of Tremaine. "Promise."
"I-I c-can't lose you-"
"Shh, shh," hushed Tremaine. "You have better things in store. You're worth so much more than me."
"I'm never gonna find another person like you..."
"You'll find someone better."
"No. I won't. Ever."
"Yes y-"
A shuddery intake of breath cut their conversation short. Tremaine's ability to breathe was only getting worse.
"R-Roshan-"
"Tremaine," Roshan whispered, clutching his hand. "N-no, hold on, you have to hold on. You don't know how much I need you, p-please-"
"We knew it was gonna happen, Ro," he said shakily. "One of us would get hurt, a-and...there'd only be one left. I-I guess now it's happening."
"Not yet...I'm not ready..."
"We never would have been ready..."
Roshan blinked back a few tears.
"Don't cry for me..." Tremaine whispered.
"I-I love you so much...more than anything," Roshan whimpered, a tear escaping. He remembered first falling in love with him. Their first date. Their engagement. Everything in between. It only made it harder to suppress the emotions building up inside of him.
Tremaine managed a weak smile. "You are my sunshine," he sang, his voice raspy and light, "My only...s-sunshine..."
Roshan sobbed weakly, shaking his head. "You're gonna b-be okay..."
"You make me happy...when skies...are gray..."
Roshan cupped his boyfriend's face, tears falling freely.
Tremaine weakly squeezed Roshan's hand. "You'll never know, dear," he whispered meaningfully. "How much I love you..."
Unable to bear hearing the final line, Roshan leaned down and kissed Tremaine. He lingered there, unwilling to part from him. Their final moments together.
And when they did part, Tremaine's hand had gone limp and his eyes were blank.
He was gone.
Please don't take my sunshine away...
