Only Us - Romaine

**Sksksksks I'm very excited this is gonna be very cute**

Roshan's eyes opened at the sound of the door creaking open, the clink of keys falling onto the hook. A slim blade of moonlight was the only thing illuminating the room besides the television, which Roshan had fallen asleep watching. "Hey babe," he mumbled, rubbing his eyes and sitting up. He had stayed up to wait for his husband, Tremaine, to get home from a rather fateful meeting.

He had heard the entire story, beginning to end, of Tremaine's childhood. How his mother had treated him with less care than the blunt that she carried in her pocket at all times. How his father had been careless enough not to stick around for Tremaine's teenage years. Before Tremaine could talk, Mr. Blackbourne was whisked off to jail for shooting a cashier.

Roshan's family didn't take well to their newfound knowledge of Tremaine's history. When he was caught taking steroids to catch up with the rest of the Phoenix Riders in his first year of Warcross, that gave the Ahmadi family a perfect excuse to keep the pair apart. But they saw just how much their darling son believed in Tremaine, how much he pined for him and loved him and wanted nothing more than to take care of him. It wasn't until now, almost five years later, that they had given Roshan their blessing to marry the love of his life.

Being the supportive, encouraging spouse that Roshan was, he organized for Mrs. Blackbourne to attend the wedding. Tremaine's mother was no longer the bony figure that had abused her son. Her face, although creased with age, was rounder and her cheeks more rosy, the effects of rehab evident in her hopeful smile. At the end of the evening, Tremaine kissed her cheek to bid her a good night and gave her his phone number in case she needed anything.

She needed something today, a few months after the wedding. She was in London, and asked Tremaine to spend the day with her just so they could talk.

"I just want to spend time with my son," she'd told him over the phone. "Just you and me, so we can talk, and...and everything that happened will be behind us."

So Tremaine, reluctantly at first, bought them both tickets to a nearby West End production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. An hour before the show began, they met at a coffee shop just a block away.

The show ended late in the evening, and Roshan stayed up to wait for him. This is where we find ourselves now.

He untangled himself from the blanket he had curled up in and walked over to his love. Tremaine, who hadn't said anything so far, smiled and placed a kiss on Roshan's nose.

"Hi cutie," he whispered, smiling gently. He noticed Roshan's sleep-tousled hair and tired eyes. It reminded Tremaine of a sleepy kitten.

"How did it go?"

His smile faltered a little. "Good," he said simply, turning his back on Roshan so he could pull off his coat.

Roshan knew his husband better than that. "'Maine..." he said. "Is something wrong?"

The simple shake of Tremaine's head didn't do it for Roshan. "Blackberry..." he whined, wrapping his arms around him from behind.

The simple nickname caused Tremaine's shoulders to slump.

"What happened, baby?" Roshan coaxed gently.

"Nothing. She w-was fine. It was nice to talk to her and stuff, I just- it just-" he huffed and shut his eyes. "Bad memories."

"Like what?"

"Just...I-I'm broken from that, Ro. What she did, i-it-it's unforgivable," he said, his voice cracking.

"No you're not, love."

"My dad wasn't any better...wasn't any help. What the hell kind of mother tries to sell her son to buy drugs?" he asked, frustration rattling through his voice. "The anger...all the sadness and the rage and the bitterness, it's stuck on me, fused with me. W-why do you want me so badly, why do you want to stick around me when I'm damaged?" he finally turned to face Roshan with teary eyes.

Roshan's eyes softened. "Because I love you, sweetheart," he murmured, cupping Roshan's cheek with one hand.

"I'm not like her..." he said softly. "But I'm like a living representation of the damage she's done." he whimpered and shut his eyes again. "I-I'm sorry, I don't want to put all of this on you, I love you so much please don't leave me-" he rambled before Roshan pressed a finger to his lips.

"I don't need you to sell me on reasons to want you," Roshan whispered affectionately. "I don't need you to search for the proof that I should. You don't have to convince me, you don't have to be scared you're not enough...cause what we've got going is good."

Tremaine smiled a little, although his lip trembled and a tear cascaded down his pale cheek.

"I don't need more reminders of all that's been broken, I don't need you to fix what I'd rather forget. Clear the slate and start over, try to quiet the noises in your head," he looked into Tremaine's eyes meaningfully. "We can't compete with all that."

"So what if it's us? What if it's us and only us? And what came before won't count anymore or matter? Can we try that? What if it's you, and what if it's me, and what if that's all that we need it to be? And the rest of the world falls away?" he smiled gently, pecking his lips. "What do you say?"

Tremaine rested his forehead against Roshan's. "I never thought there'd be someone like you who would want me..."

"Well," Roshan shrugged helplessly and giggled.

"So I give you ten thousand reasons to not let me go. But if you really see me, if you like me for me and nothing else...well, that's all that I've wanted for longer that you could possibly know."

"So it can be us, it can be us and only us, and what came before won't count anymore or matter. We can try that..."

"It's not so impossible," they sang together.

"Nobody else but the two of us here," Tremaine said.

"Cause you're saying it's possible..."

"We can just watch the whole world disappear," Roshan said.

"Til you're the only one I still know how to see..."

"It's just you and me?" Tremaine asked hopefully.

Roshan smiled and took his hands, squeezing them softly. "It'll be us, It'll be us and only us. And what came before won't count anymore..."

"We can try that. You and me, that's all that we need it to be. And the rest of the world falls away, and the rest of the world falls away..."

"The world falls away...the world falls away..."

"And it's only us..."
