Chapter 52
I bolted up in a panic gasping for air as I felt my soul was being sucked out of me. Looking around, I then realized I was laying in my bed and hooked up to some IV machine. Flowers and balloons were also scattered around my room along with some teddy bears. Laying back down, I tried to recall what had happened. I remember Lucifer had rescued me, showering me then fed me before I passed out. He didn't seem mad at me but it felt like he was holding back what he wanted to truly say to me.
Sitting back up, I pulled the blankets off me to see my right leg was in a cast all the way up to my knee. It then hit me when Lucifer told me that my body would take a bit longer to get back to normal since I was in a realm beyond death itself. I slowly sat my leg over the bed and let out a painful groan as I clutched my ribs. Rising up my shirt, I could see it was bandaged up and a bit purple on the outside.
Letting out a sigh, I looked next to my bed to see a wheelchair was waiting for me.
"Great," I scoffed as I gently slid into the seat and grabbed my phone. I tried to use my powers to roll myself but a sharp pain ran through my head. Giving up, I rolled myself out the room and down the hall to the elevator. Taking it down, I rolled down the hall and into the kitchen to see the guys all eating.
"Why didn't you call us to get you," James voice came in front of me. I shrugged, "I'm not that broken," I mumbled to which he chuckled and kissed my forehead, "I know, would you like to have some dinner?" he offered.
I shook my head, "I just ate."
"You were asleep for 5 days and I was hoping you said yes you'll eat because you have to take your meds," he informed me as he rolled me to a table next to Cody.
My eyebrow rose, "Meds?" I asked.
Cody nodded, "Doctor came over and give you some painkillers. You're kind of mortal for some time until your body gets right with this world compared to the prison realm."
A plate of mash potatoes, baked chicken, macaroni pie, green string beans and a biscuit was placed in front of me. "Randy, Carter, Hunter, Felix, Blake, and Ethan cooked," James informed me.
I thanked him and silently ate as the guys all talked. I then took my pills and looked around to see Gabe was missing.
"Where's Gabe?" I asked. "He's in the backyard. Want me to get him?" Cody asked to which I shook my head. "It's fine," I spoke as I got ready to roll myself. James then started to roll the wheelchair from behind. "I don't need help," I mumbled.
"I know," he softly replied as he rolled me out the kitchen and towards the backyard. As we got into the backyard, I saw Gabe was in the fields sitting in a chair with a beer in his hand as he was looking out the sunset. I went to roll into the grass but James stopped me.
"Trust me, it's not going to roll," he spoke as he gently placed his hand under my legs and the other around my back.
Letting out a sigh, I placed my hand around his neck to which he picked me up gently and carried me down the field. He then placed me in the seat next to Gabe and I gave James a kiss on the forehead before he left. I looked to Gabe who didn't even look at me. He just kept his eyes on the sunset. I soon started to watch the sunset.
"Why didn't you tell me?" he asked.
I shrugged knowing he was referring to me telling him about rescuing Sean. "I just didn't want anyone else to get hurt," I admitted causing him to look at me, "How did that work out for you," he glared at the cast on my leg. I opened my mouth to say something but he cut me off.
"No, I'm tired of hearing excuses Sky. The amount of time you risk your life for someone else is literally uncountable. You've saved the guys and I uncountable times and even Sean who you rescued like 2 times now. Never was there a time you put yourself first. I know that others come first but you've got to understand that there is one of you and you're my only sister. So if you're going to do some dumb shit again, please tell me so we can at least do it together," he shouted.
I slowly nodded my head as I was not expecting this response. He then kissed the side of my head and drank some of his beer.
"What happened to Sean?" I asked.
"He was downstairs. If he's not there then maybe he went back to his room and before you ask Lucifer is with Axel going over some stuff. Grayson is coming over tomorrow to permanently live with us and " he informed me. I nodded my head and we watched the rest of sunset in silence.
After that, Gabe carried me back to my room and we watched a movie then talked for a bit before he went to sleep. Sitting up on my bed, I looked at the ceiling. Everyone was asleep and I couldn't help but feel a bit numb. It was as if my humanity was off but I remember turning it back on when Lucifer asked me to in the realm.
Letting out an annoyed groan, I decided to get out of bed. Working through the pain, I switched into a pair of shorts, boots, and a hoodie before rolling myself over to the couch. I grabbed the crutches from the side of the couch and slowly stood up. Letting out a hiss of pain, I sucked in a sharp breath and walked with the crutches under my arm.
I grabbed my phone and headed into the elevator. I took it down to the garage and got into a Lamborghini and talking off. With my windows down, I felt the cold breeze run through my hair. I felt so crowded at home and a bit overwhelmed. I still feel the same way, just not as much.
Driving through the streets, I headed to my club as I had decided to just hang out for a few. I parked in the parking lot, pulled my hoodie over my head and got out the car with the crutches. Shutting the door, I walked up to the entrance and hear some muffled laughs and scoffs as people in line saw me.
Walking up to the entrance, I showed the security my face and he quickly moved aside as he opened the door for me. I walked in and headed to the bar to see Ray and Max was the bartenders. I sat on the stool and they both came up to me with quickly with a worried look.
I let up my hand causing them to silent, "I'm okay. Don't worry about it. I would like a bottle up to my room and a pack of cigarettes," I winked before getting up and carrying myself to the VIP room which overviewed the whole club. Sitting down on the couch, I placed my crutches on the couch next to me before placing the leg up with the cast on the table.
The pain was now coming back in both my leg and ribs. The door opened and I looked to see Ray with a bottle of vodka in a bucket of ice and a pack of cigarettes with a lighter. I thanked him before he left.
I pour myself a drink and started to smoke. As I drank my drink, I felt the burn run down my throat. I hadn't had a feeling like this in a while. It felt a bit nice to be human again even if it was temporarily. I spent the next hour smoking and drinking. By the time I was halfway through the bottle, I felt drunk.
I out my cigarette and laid back on the couch as I continued to drink. The door then opened revealing Ray again but this time, Max was behind him.
"Well aren't you having fun," Ray teased as he walked up to me with Max. I shrugged, "Just a bit," I slurred out as I took a hit of my cigarette.
"We're going to head out now and since you're drunk, I'm going to drop you home," Max spot. I shook my head getting ready to protest but before I could, he picked me up bridal style. Within a few drunken blinks, I was being buckled into the car. Ray and Max talked amongst themselves as I was half passed out in the front seat.
My door opened and someone unbuckled my seatbelt before picking me up bridal style. The person exchanged a few words with Ray and Max before I could hear the car speeding off. Slowly opening my eyes, I looked to see it was Sean.
"About fucking time!" I scoffed out.
His eyebrow rose as he looked at me. "What?" he asked confused.
"I haven't seen you at all since I came back and you have bothered to even come to see me. The fuck is wrong with you," I asked as he was now carrying me up the stairs and into my room.
He just rolled his eyes and placed me on the bed.
"Seriously? You're not going to fucking answer," I angrily replied.
"How much did you have to drink?" a voice came behind me. I turned to see Lucifer was laying back on the bed. "Apparently a little too much," a voice came in front me. I looked to see Zepar leaning against my closet door, Axel was on the couch and Gabe was standing by my dresser. Lucifer gently grabbed my hand but I quickly pushed it away.
"NO!" I growled.
I watched as he studied me for a bit and let out a sigh, "Your humanity is off. Apparently you never fully turned it back on," he replied.
I rolled my eyes, "First of all, fuck you for lying about not know about the book and the green mist." I shouted before looking at Sean, "And fuck you for not talking to me about it and for not telling me you have a brother."
"Sky, you need to relax. We all couldn't tell you everything. We did this to protect you and -"
"Protect me? YOU DID THIS TO PROTECT ME? Is it so I wouldn't die because news flash, I CAN'T!" I shouted as I got off the bed. I almost fell to the ground due to the cast of my leg but I quickly grabbed the bedpost. "And this fucking case is annoying the shit out of me," I hissed as I pried at me.
"Stop, you're going to break it," Lucifer ordered as he got off the bed and ran to me. Before he could stop me, I broke the cast apart and looked down at my bluish leg.
"You need to -"
"No! You need to fuck off! I'm tired of this shit. I'm tired of feeling like I only matter because of my demon powers or being the Queen of Hell. I'm tired of it all. I'm tired of rescuing and I'm tired of trying to be the good one!" I shouted.
A scoff came behind me and I looked to see Sean with his arms folded across his chest, "I didn't ask you to rescue me. I even told you not to come to get me," he informed me.
"You know damn well I would try to come to get you. You saw the future and that doesn't fucking count. You know I would try to help my friends and family. It's different," I defended.
"Turn your humanity back on," Lucifer ordered as he stood in front me. I looked around the room to see everyone was siding with him. "No," I scoffed before pushing my way past him.
I heard a chuckle and turned to see a woman in black straight hair. She was the same height as me and wore a smirk on her red lips. She wore a black skin-tight dress and black heels.
"Who are you?" I questioned a bit annoyed just by her presence.
Lucifer walked in front me and cupped my face, "She's no one. Get out Doris!" Lucifer growled at her. She just chuckled and ignored him. "Can't believe you're actually getting married to this mortal," she scoffed.
"Doris, just get out," Sean hissed at her. Her eyes bolted off me and onto Sean, "Last time I heard you were dead. I was sad for a few as I remembered all the great times we had," she spoke in a seductive voice as she was now dragging her finger down his chest. Sean rolled his eyes and swatted her hand away, "I rather die again than be with you," he scoffed.
"Ouch," she commented before laughing.
"Oh my gosh. Lady, who are you and why are you here?" I asked getting more annoyed.
"Mother of Demons child. Seen everything from the start and will be here when it finishes. I even fucked most of them and no mortal, just cause my title says mother doesn't mean I'm actually the mother," she informed me.
I looked to Lucifer who was glaring at her. "I'm guessing you fucked her?" I asked.
Before he could answer, Doris answered herself. "Actually, more than fuck. We dated for a long time before Liana. We were supposed to get married but he didn't want to. Now he's marrying you, human," she hissed.
My hands clutched into fists, "I'm not human and I'm not mortal," I shouted.
She flashed over to me and glared into my eyes, "Once a human, always a human. You even smell like them," she scrunched up her nose.
Lucifer pulled her away from me before I could punch her in the face.
"I don't know why you're here now but you're not helping. Her humanity switch is off," he growled at her to which she waved him off. "What's the big deal? She's still human deep-"
"Doris just shut up and she's much stronger than you," Axel cut her off. Soon she started to argue and everyone else started to argue with her. Looking around the room, I saw Micah was also here. Gabe was still here as well but he was by the corner of the room just watching everything. He looked...sad.
Walking passed everyone, I walked up to him to which he forced a smile. Without saying a word, I took his hand in mine and closed my eyes. I let myself flow through his emotions. He was in pain and anger. He was mad at how this whole situation was turning out. Not specifically about me but also about himself. Searching through him, I saw he also had a humanity switch. I didn't know angels have a humanity switch.
Opening my eyes, I smiled.
"Join me," I offered.
His eyebrow rose, "What?"
"Turn of your humanity switch," I spoke causing the whole room to go quietly.
"Gabe, don't do it. Don't listen to her," Micah warned him. From the corner of my eye, I could see Lucifer nodded for Sean and Axel to get me but I quickly formed a force field around myself with Gabe inside causing them to stop. Lucifer tried to plead with me to comply but I ignored him.
He shook his head, "Sorry sister but no thanks."
"But don't you want to stop hurting?" I questioned.
He nodded his head, "Yes but not this way."
"Why do you even have a humanity switch?" I asked a bitch confused.
He let out a sigh, "I'm half angel and half demon. The balance between both worlds," he explained.
"Gabe, you're hurting inside. I could feel it. Just let go," I spoke in a soft tone. He shook his head and I let out a sigh as the guys outside the force field kept shouting. I thickened the force field so they couldn't be heard by Gabe and I.
"Come on, just give it a try. No more pain or hurting. You'll feel much better. You'll be so happy and have so much fun. Don't you want to be happy Gabe? I want you to be happy. I want you to feel no pain. All you have to do is reach inside you and switch your emotions off," I softly spoke.
"Sky, I-" before he could finish, I hugged him.
"You wouldn't feel anything except happiness. All you have to do is flip the switch," I whispered. His body was tense and then something in him clicked because his body was not tense any more. We pulled away from the hug and I looked at Gabe whose eyes were now pitch black.
He stared at me a second before a smirk rose to his face.
"I've never felt so...alive," he chuckled to which I nodded and smirked. "This is only the beginning," I commented.
