Revolution Bones

(Historical Source- Letters Written in France during French Revolution, by Helen Maria.

Historical Event-The Intellectual French Revolution of 1789.)

Impetuous feelings of the immense multitude,

I saw two hundred thousand men in procession,

How can I give an adequate lea of the behaviour?

Connected in enthusiasm of moral sentiment,

With the solemn pomp of religious ceremonies,

Addressed at once to the understanding and heart,

The Champ de Mars accomplished the toil of years,

The rank distinctions forgotten, inspired by the same spirit,

Citizens gloried in taking up the spade animated,

The cries of joy were suspended by a solemn silence,

When passed the street of assassination of their amiable prince,

Through the roofs, at the windows, people wept,

Transported with joy, blessing God to have lived to see such an honourable day,

Melting into tears they promised to imbibe,

Then took the King the solemn oath,

Words reechoed by six hundred thousand voices,

Then displayed the sun when burst forth,

While people lifted their eyes to heaven,

A respectful silence succeeded but the minds of the people were too much elevated,

'We few, we happy few, we band of brothers.'
