Beneath the Bodhi Tree

(Historic Event - Inspired by the enlightenment of Buddha)

To Bodh Gaya,

amongst the figs he came.

Beneath the bohdi tree he sat

engulfed in brightest day

and darkest night,

where earth and life surrounded him

as all the dark within his heart

was bathed in purest light.

The breeze blew through the branches,

rippling leaves,

that were then gently shed,

and in his heart,

life's sorrows,

like those floating leaves,

swirled gently 'round his head,

then lifted skyward toward the sun,

which showered down its radiance,

and then those sorrows kissed,

until at last his painful past

ceased simply to exist.
