Chapter 14
Amos
Once obtained all the information and "happy" as a clam, the two of them got moving or flying, which ever you prefer!
It's not as Amos was too much disappointed for having become her personal transport, but being so close was becoming a problem, at least for him! As for her, instead, she seemed to having realized it and, as a result, she got comfortable!
She had started reading the volume she was given by Lillybet, only to try to have a clearer idea of the they were looking for.
<<I keep asking myself the why you insisted so much I having that moldy book when you have a guide like me.>> He asked, showing a beaming smile to which Clara would have very likely answered with a fist!
<<Firstly, because you are a little rusty since you have been out of the game for more than a century and, secondly, because I don't trust you such a bad boy like you. No offense, but you don't seem exactly the type who "loses" his "precious" time with the nose buried in the books and, anyway, reading it, I am learning a lot of things.>> The young woman replied, pushing aside a lock from the scarlet hair, probably, not aware of the participation of a "spectator".
Amos tried focusing on something else and Clara too engaged not to think about the fact she was travelling embraced by the arms of the most beautiful creature she had ever seen. He wasn't just objectively beautiful, but it was like he was surrounded of a special aura which allowed him to distance himself from normal people and to rise above them. His eyes' color was one of the things that most attracted her.
<<Are you the only one among your people with this color?>> She asked referring to his purple eyes. Just mirroring in them it was possible getting lost in that whirlwind of gold and purple, leaving out every problem.
Amos froze and for a few seconds he seemed almost absent minded, but, lucky, shortly after he came back to himself, deciding to satisfy, at least, partly, the young woman's curiosity.
<<I could ask you the same thing, but to be fair, no, no one has this eyes' color. I don't know why.
<<As I expected.>>
<<What?>>
<<You are a guy who stands out. Come on, who likes to follow the crowd? I think that is better having something just ours, able to distinguish us.>>
Heard this answer, he widened his eyes. Since his birth, no one had never made him feel special, only wrong or excluded.
"No, I must not even take in consideration. She is just the means to achieve my goal, I just have to use her to have these objects back and to avoid the end of the world, then everyone will take his/her path. I can't have any distraction, moreover, trivial things like love aren't for me.>> Amos thought, trying self – convincing of not being about to fall in a spiral of delights and agonies called "love"!
<<Good, now that we have had the embarrassing moment "heart to heart conversation", I think we could focus on where we should spend the night. In this world do exist hotels?>> The girl genuinely asked, leaving his partner speechless.
<<What?>>
<<Oh my God, how do you call them? Taverns, inns?>> Clara insisted, firmly against to the idea of spending the night under the starry sky with a guy like him by her side.
<<By the way, do you sleep?>> The red – head girl asked after having realized that they still hadn't discussed this point.
<<Yes, like every living being, but I am a light sleeper, so I am able to perceive a threat's arrival.>> He replied nonchalantly.
<<So, I suppose that you need to eat and to do all the things that a normal human does, right?>> The girl kept asking, ever more interested.
"I don't think that I will have another occasion to meet someone from another species, identical to us, except that for the magical powers and the Herculean force! With this material, I could write a whole saga! At least, I found a positive aspect in this absurd adventure." She realized, starting thinking that she should have spent the night open air, without a camping tent, a sleeping bag o whatever could be used in similar circumstances neither!
<<I can transform into a dragon when things go bad, but, generally, I prefer using my magic, even because staying in that form for a long time, makes us tired. And, to answer to your question, yes, I have all the needs and functions of a human being.>> He explained to her, in an extremely sensual tone or, at least, Clara thought so, even if, since their meeting, her intuition was no more very reliable. That guy confused her, but she didn't imagine that she was doing the same to him.
<<To answer to your precedent question, no, in this area there is no inn where we could stay and, even if there were, I couldn't come with you.>> He told her.
<<Why? Are you scared that I could attack you during the night, Mr "No one can touch me."?>> She asked, mocking him.
When she heard him laughing sadly, Clara realized that he was hiding something, but she preferred not to investigate. If he had wanted, he would have told her freely, without external pressures.
<<Agree, since you are so "afraid" of this prospect, why don't we turn back to ask for shelter to that mad woman. She lives in an enormous temple so she will have a free room, no?
<<That is holy ground and, anyway, if we turned back every night, we would never get to our destination.>> He answered, making her angry since he kept rejecting all her ideas!
<<Damn idiot, we do have this gemstone open portals.>> She replied.
<<That "gem" as you call it, draws on your power and, if you used it whenever you wanted to go somewhere, you'd faint, becoming even more useless of how you actually are.>> He explained, making her angry even more (if possible).
<<Do you want to say that the only one who can use it it's me? But how the Hell is that possible?>> She was shocked just thinking of having some sort of power. She had started to think of having imagined to having freed him with who knows what spell, even because, what kind of power she could have?
<<Exactly, but I can assure that I will find out the secret behind this story. But now, let's find a place where we can land and spend the night. There's hardly any light.>>
<<Hey, don't you dare to swoop.>> The girl warned him, already getting ready for a rough landing.
<<I suggest you holding on tightly.>>
The mystery was getting thicker and thicker, but other obstacles and meetings were waiting for them on the path!
