Chapter 1: Mason's Birthday
This is a day where Mason and his siblings and parents have his usual wild birthday party. Already seems like a party without my friends, Mason thought. Now this was true, considering the fact that Mason has 15 brothers and sisters, not including him. 8 were genetic and 8 were adopted. He was, apparently, the youngest of the 16. Today was his 11th birthday, and all he really wanted was an actual snow day. It hasn't snowed at all, even though it was winter. The winter time usually snowed 2 to 4 days a week, but now, on his eleventh birthday, it was as nice as a spring day. He was pretty steamed, literally. Plus, he really just wanted to go out in the snow have a snow fight, etc., AND TO ESCAPE THIS HEAT!!!! And plus the plus, his mom made really good cocoa.
"Why isn't it even snowing yet?" he whined.
"Oh, stop complaining. I'll bet it'll snow in at least two days." said Lorie, the second oldest. "Two days!?" cried James, Mason's twin."That's when Mason's real birthday comes up!!" After that remark, though, Mason's friends filed in.
"Hey Mason!"
"Wassap."
"Hi!"
After the party, Mason was sweating buckets. He began to open his presents. The usual. Nerf guns, video games......
One thing caught Mason's eye with a simple glint. It was a circle separated by sixths. With one full. What is this, a math equation helper?
It was a gray piece of simple iron. He picked it up. It was so cold it stung.
"Owowowowowowowowowow!" Mason cried. It had burnt a little print on his palm. Drats. Mason bet it would still be stuck there when school started again. Tease Central! They'd say: " Oooh, whatcha got there, Mason? Trying to cheat on a fraction test?" And when he'd try to defend himself, they'd say:"Now, now. Be a nice little nerd." Then howls of laughter. That would be the worst way to continue the school year. Double drats. Mason still wanted it to snow. He looked at the return address. Mr. Johnson. Funny, he's the one who gives Mason all the actual cool stuff.
"Hey Mom, what's this?" He asked. Maybe it was a key to some secret stash of total awesomeness. Or just the attic. But deja vu was hitting him. He had seen this sign before, somewhere.....
"HEY MASON!!!" Yelled Steven, third oldest, who scared Mason out of his mind. "What?" Mason asked, his ears still ringing.
"IT'S SNOWING!!"
"WHAT!!?"
"COME ON!!!"
Sure enough, there was a giant blizzard outside where there should've been a sun.
How did this weather change??
