TWO; MAKEUPS

HURRICANE JUNE. Her father accidentally let it slip when he was picking her up from school in fifth grade, and Embry and Quil never allowed her to forget it. Quil always enjoyed her reaction — narrowed eyes, pursed lips, and her face growing as red as a tomato. Even as he said the nickname on that Monday morning, she didn't flinch. She was glaring intensely at the boy across the room, guilt flashing across his pupils. Embry and Quil decided to separate to comfort both June and Jake. Quil, of course, took June's side. It was unfair for Jake to lie to his girlfriend about being with somebody else, especially when his intentions weren't pure. "I'm going to stab him," she threatened, raising her fork. Quil's eyes widened, taking the utensil from her grasp.

"No, you're not. Breathe, June. You need to speak to Jake about your situation." She adjusted the blue top she was wearing before slumping down in her seat. The cafeteria was buzzing with loud chatter, but no one paid attention to the couple sitting at different tables. Even if June and Jake fought sometimes, they always got back together.

"I don't need to do anything. Jacob can come talk with me when he admits that what he did was wrong." She played around with the food on her plate. The meal appeared less disgusting today, but June didn't dare to consume it. "I only have one question. Why Bella Swan?"

It was valid. Bella was irrevocably in love with Edward Cullen, who went to school in Forks. The pair went everywhere together along with his family. June always thought it was odd that Carlisle Cullen had adopted so many children, and all of them were dating each other. The group had been so closed off until Bella moved back from Arizona. She was immediately accepted and perfectly blended in. She had fallen into a sinking hole when Edward and his family left Forks for reasons unknown, but that wasn't an exception to try and date June's boyfriend.

"I don't know, June. I highly doubt Jake even has feelings for her. He was just accompanying her by working on these old bikes," Quil reasoned. He eyed Embry and Jake, who were debating silently. Embry looked ready to grab ahold of his friend and toss him into one of the tables.

"Judging by their position, Quil, it was more than fixing bikes. I'm not the jealous type, you know that. I don't understand why he felt the need to lie directly to me," she whispered. A boy approached, his russet colored skin glowing under the bright lights. He smirked, fixing the collar of his varsity jacket. He tossed a note across the table and Quil took a protective stance. June picked the paper up, unfolding it and reading the content. She huffed and crumpled it, mashing the parchment into her food. "You can tell Jacob that I am in no mood to divulge in secrets." The stranger nodded, striding over to Jake's table and giving him the information. June concluded he didn't receive it very well, since he almost punched the guy square in the jaw. "I can't believe he's sending messengers to reveal what he wants to say."

"Jake isn't fond of confrontation, particularly with you. I've witnessed you guys fight before. It's intense," Quil murmured. Jake's chair emitted a loud sound when he moved backwards, storming out of the room. Every head darted to June, but she stared straight ahead.

"I'm leaving," she informed him. She stood, the whole volume lowering. Students watched as she departed, following after her irate boyfriend. She kept her distance in the hallway, observing as Jake's muscles tensed before relaxing. He hadn't noticed her yet but was pummeling his locker with rage. June frowned. She had never seen Jake so irritated with himself.

"If you damage it any further, you'll have to pay the school," she chimed, swaying back and forth. He stopped his actions and glanced at her. He chuckled under his breath. Even when June was angry with him, she always stopped him from doing something he would regret. He kicked off the locker with ease. They were the only ones occupying the vacant hallway.

"I'm sorry, Junie," he apologized, not meeting her gaze. She advanced forward, lifting his chin up and pressing her lips to his. He rested his hands on her hips and she weaved her hands through his hair.

"I'm still upset with you," she breathed as they pulled apart. He nudged their noses together, smiling.

     "Love you."

     "Whatever."

Quil stopped in his tracks when he heard the comforting exchange. His first instinct was to race after June, making sure she was alright. He didn't get his chance to check before Jake had trapped her in once again. He realized how horrible he was behaving, attempting to win June's heart with no avail.

June and Jake would always be together, and he had to accept that.

"Definitely this one," June nodded, pointing to the location. Emily hummed and examined the website carefully. As promised, June joined Emily on Friday to discuss wedding ideas. Emily's home was quaint and secluded to the reservation. June had yet to see a glimpse of Sam, but Emily insisted he would be out all day for work.

Emily gasped, considering the venue. They were choosing areas for her wedding, but there wasn't that much to offer in La Push. June also wanted to check Forks but Emily stopped her and disclosed that Sam didn't like the town. "It's beautiful. I'm going to write this down," she murmured, scribbling the information in a pink and white journal. "Good eye, June."

"Thanks." The place was near La Push Beach and it was perfect for a ceremony and reception. "Jake actually took me there on our third date." It was the outing that decided their relationship, and Jake made her feel like a princess.

"Cute," Emily cooed, saving the website before exiting. Loud cheers were heard and June's head darted up, spotting Sam Uley. Jared Cameron and Paul Lahote followed in tow. They all adorned the same outfit, which wasn't much. Emily frowned and checked her watch. "They should've been back at seven. Sorry, June. You don't mind, right?"

"No," she shook her head, dismissing the topic. "It's alright." June didn't have the heart to tell Emily that the only reason Jake didn't stop her from coming was because she persisted Sam wasn't going to be in the house. Embry, Quil, and Jake all had a problem with Sam's group.

"Hey, beautiful," Sam greeted when he walked in. He came to Emily's side and kissed her before settling his eyes on June. When his fiancé told him about her meeting with June Haight, he was standoffish. He wasn't going to tell Emily that she couldn't have friends but June's boyfriend was Jacob Black, the next in line to become alpha. "Hello, June."

"Hi," she spoke timidly, waving. Jared and Paul came stumbling in after, laughing and pushing one another. They were surprised by June's presence.

"June Haight," Paul smirked, folding his arms across his chest. He had tried to date the girl two years ago, but she was already taken. "You still with Black?"

She didn't respond, pretending to be interested in the color of her nail polish. Jared cackled at her, taking a seat at the table. "Don't be so harsh, June. We're only joking with you."

"I should get back," she voiced, slinging her bag over her shoulder. She stood up and Emily's hand reached out to grab hers.

"No, don't leave. They'll behave," she said sternly, glaring at the two boys. Girls were afraid of Emily because her partner was Sam, the alleged leader of the La Push cult. June was one of the only ones who she could consider her friend.

"I really should," she cleared her throat. Paul was giving her a look she was not appreciating. "Call me, okay?" She tapped Emily's shoulder with comfort. She left the small house, clicking the button on her car keys to open the door. They all stared after her, watching as Emily sinked in defeat. June started up the car, hoping that when she arrived at Jake's, it wouldn't be an incident like last time.

The two barely conversed about the situation. He repeated that there was nothing occurring between him and Bella, so she let it go for now. Bella even ran into her at the grocery store and apologized profusely. She affirmed Jacob was just a friend and she was still madly in love with Edward Cullen. June was on edge but for the sake of her relationship, she kept quiet.

Her phone rang from the passenger seat and she quickly answered it, placing it on speaker. "June?" Quil's voice asked. She hummed in response, keeping her eyes focused on the road ahead of her. "Can you stop by Embry's? He has this nasty fever."

"What?" She said, concerned. She turned the car around from Jake's direction to Embry's. "Is he okay?" There was a moan of pain, and June felt herself freeze.

     "It's really bad, June."

She pressed down on the accelerator. "Call Sue Clearwater. I'll be there right away." She hung up the phone, spotting Embry's house in the distance. She parked her car in his driveway, rushing inside to check on her friend.

Embry was in his bed, moaning out from overheating. He was sweating immensely and June noted that his stature had grown. Sue was tending to him, but it seemed she already knew what the problem was. She had shown up before Quil could dial the Clearwater's house number. "Embry," June whispered breathlessly. She had never seen someone in such a bad condition. Quil stood at the end of his bed, hovering over as he watched his friend kick at the blankets in exhaustion. She stepped closer to Quil and his breath hitched at the close proximity. "What's going on?"

"He has the flu," Sue answered. June's eyebrows furrowed. She motioned to Embry's current state.

"That's more than the flu, Sue." The woman shook her head, denying June's accusation. She wasn't expecting Embry to be the next to phase, especially since his lineage was unknown.

"Give him these," she ordered, handing Quil a bottle of medication. "He should be in distress for a few days. I don't want you two getting near him." She cautioned them before squeezing Embry's hand. She left with a few side notes she had written in one of his notebooks.

"Embry," June approached, but he waved his hand for her to move back.

"You should go. Sue's right when she said you shouldn't be near me. I could give you guys the flu," he coughed into his arm. He wiped some sweat off his forehead, and June twisted her nose. Quil pulled her backwards, afraid that Embry's words were true. He couldn't have June in his condition.

"We'll come see you in a few days," Quil spoke directly to him. June was astonished that he expected her to leave him in his position. "C'mon, June. You don't want to catch what he has."

"Are you kidding?" She grumbled. "He's sick, Q! We should assist him!"

"June, you can't do anything until I get better," Embry sighed. He shifted in his bed, trying to find a comfortable form. "I'll have my mom take care of me when she gets home. Go see Jake. I'll be okay."

She still wasn't convinced, but Quil tugged on her arm until she was out the door. They walked down Embry's hallway, discussing quietly. "You don't think we should stay for a while?" She questioned.

"Don't worry. Embry's tough as nails. He'll fight through this." Quil's voice wavered, for he didn't want to tell her that Embry's symptoms were signs from Sam's group. Jared and Paul became sick for a few days before they cut off their hair, grew taller, and followed Sam around like lost puppies. Their friends revealed that they saw the two have raging fevers the day before, prior to leaving them behind. "You should tell Jake. I'm sure he'd want to know."

They were now at Embry's door, and June swiveled to face her friend. "Q, could you do me a huge favor?"

"Sure," he didn't hesitate to respond. "What is it?"

"If you ever see Jake with Bella or somewhere he's not supposed to be, can you tell me?" June felt guilty for even demanding something with so much envy, but it needed to be done. She was bothered with the idea that her relationship was moving south.

"Of course, June. I can't imagine he would do that to you again."

"Don't bet on it," she mumbled, opening Embry's door. She stepped out, feeling the wind flow through her hair.

A moment of uncertainty passed through her bones and she shuddered, scared of what was to approach.

you don't know what's about to hit you june
