Sometime after she had spoken to Abby, Brinley had lost her fight against the sedative that had been injected into her system. When she woke up, she found herself strapped tightly to a chair, surrounded by few familiar faces.
She tried to shake the sleepiness off as she looked around. As she turned her head to the left, the familiar sight of a smirking face greeted her.
'Well well well, look what the council dragged in.'
Brinley forced her eyes to stay open as she took in the person beside her. Her eyes widened considerably as realisation hit her.
'Murphy?' She asked in disbelief.
His face split into an arrogant smirk, though his eyes were shining with mischief.
'Hey doll face.'
Brinley groaned at the annoying nickname, though it was obvious to her friend that she was happy to see him. 'What the hell is going on?'
Murphy raised an eyebrow. 'They didn't tell you? They're sending us to the ground.' He drawled, rolling his eyes at his own words.
Instead of the surprised look Murphy was expecting to see from the girl, Brinley snorted. 'Great. They save me from one death just to send me to another.'
Murphy frowned. 'What the hell are you talking about?'
She sighed. 'I was supposed to be dead by now. They were about to float me when they stuck a needle in my neck and brought me here instead.' Brinley edited her story, leaving any unnecessary information out.
Murphy frowned at the seriousness of the situation, all playfulness dropping from his face. 'Jesus, Brin.'
'How are you so awake?' Brinley groaned over dramatically, successfully changing the subject. She didn't want to talk about her.
Before Murphy could answer, a small laugh sounded from the other side of her and she turned her head to eye the small brunette near her.
'What?' Brinley snapped at the girl who stopped laughing immediately, a sheepish look forming on her face.
'Nothing. I mean, I uh watched them bring you in. You started waking up when they were strapping you down and one of the guards panicked and jabbed you with another dose of sedative without thinking, that's why you're still disoriented. You had twice the dose.'
Brinley pursed her lips while Murphy snickered beside her.
'Oh. That would explain it. What's your name?' Her tone was friendlier this time and the other girl noticed.
'I'm Octavia.' She sent a tentative smile to the older girl who shot her one back.
'I'm Brinley.'
Octavia smiled slightly. 'Nice to meet you.'
'What were you in for?' Brinley questioned, curious about the new face.
A frown graced Octavia's pretty face. 'You don't know?'
Brinley was confused. 'Should I?'
'Surely even you've heard of Octavia Blake?' Murphy drawled from beside her, an eyebrow raised in surprise.
'I've been in solitary for nearly three years. You don't really hear much gossip in there.' Brinley rolled her eyes, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
'They locked me up for being born.' Octavia shrugged as though she didn't care, but from the tense set of her shoulders it was clear she did.
'You were an illegal child – a second child?' Brinley's voice softened. Illegal children were practically unheard of. She could imagine discovery of Octavia's birth had been quite the scandal. Octavia nodded at her.
'They hid her in the floor for sixteen years.' Murphy added from beside her.
'I always wondered what it would be like to have a sibling.' Brinley muttered, slightly in awe of the younger girl.
'Except her brother is the reason she got locked up in the first place.'
Octavia glared at Murphy. 'Don't you dare talk about my brother.' She spat. Brinley smiled slightly at the fiery attitude the girl possessed.
Murphy held his hands up in mock surrender and Brinley hit him lightly. He rolled his eyes at her but shut his mouth anyway.
'What were you-'
A loud crash sounded, pulling the two girls from their conversation.
'What was that?' She heard a voice ask loudly.
'Atmosphere' A different voice replied, sounding slightly awed.
Clarke and Wells.
'You've got to be kidding me.' Brinley muttered much to Murphy's amusement.
'Not so keen on a whole family reunion?' He joked.
'Fuck off, Murphy.' She mumbled at the amused boy beside her.
A screen appeared and the familiar face of Thelonious Jaha greeted the prisoners. Brinley rolled her eyes, slightly amused at the abuse being hurtled towards the screen from the other delinquents.
Brinley drowned out most of the speech by looking around at the faces of the other people she was now stuck with.
'Your dad's a dick wells!'
Brinley sniggered.
'Those crimes will be forgiven, your records wiped clean.' A snort left Octavia.
'What if your crime is being born? How the hell do you forgive that.' She muttered.
Brinley reached over and squeezed her arm sending her a smile in a show of solidarity. Octavia wasn't a criminal like the rest of them, not really, and she seemed nice. Brinley made a promise to herself to get to know the pretty brunette if they survived the landing.
A boy called Finn was floating around the ship, teasing Wells. Two others made to copy him but were promptly flung across the drop ship.
Soon after, there was a loud crash as the drop ship hit the ground.

'The outer door is on the lower level, let's go.'
Brinley stood beside Murphy who watched as she helped Octavia to her feet. The feeling of standing was completely different to what they were used to on the Ark, and it took a second for them to adjust.
The strange trio made their way to the lower level with the other delinquents. Murphy made his way down first followed by Brinley and then Octavia.
'We can't just open the doors!' Clarke cried as they made their way closer to the group, pushing their way to the front.
'Hey, just back it up guys.' A male voice called out, authority colouring his tone.
'Stop, the air could be toxic.'
Clarke wasn't wrong, Brinley decided. But if the air was toxic they were all screwed either way. The unfamiliar male echoed her thoughts to Clarke.
'If the air is toxic, we're all dead anyway.' He shrugged.
A soft gasp came from beside her and Brinley looked down at an awestruck, teary eyed Octavia.
'Bellamy?' Her voice carried to the tall male, who turned his head on instinct, a look of shock and genuine happiness covering his face as Octavia ran towards him. As they got closer Brinley began to see the resemblances between them, they were small but they were there. Siblings she thought.
'My god, look how big you are.' The guy - Bellamy - smiled at Octavia as he pulled away from her to look at her properly. Octavia's grin was huge as she smiled at her brother, embracing him tightly.
'What the hell, are you wearing a guards uniform?' She pulled away slightly.
'I borrowed it to get on the drop ship, someone has got to keep an eye on you.' Bellamy grinned as Octavia embraced him again.
'Where's your wristband?' Clarke questioned, ruining the sweet moment.
'Do you mind, I haven't seen my brother in over a year.' Octavia rolled her eyes.
'No one has a brother.' A male muttered.
'That's Octavia Blake, the girl they found hidden in the floor!' A girl somewhere behind Brinley yelled.
Octavia stared blankly at the watching crowd for a second. Brinley realised what she was going to do a second before it happened.
Octavia shot forward and Brinley quickly stood in her way, pushing her back lightly as Bellamy grabbed his sister around the waist as she struggled. 'Octavia- Octavia, no.'
'Who said that?' Brinley yelled loudly turning to face the rest of the group. She vaguely registered the looks of shock on Clarke and Wells' faces but she paid them no mind. No one would meet her eyes as she surveyed them through narrowed eyes.
'Yeah, that's what I thought. I don't want to hear it again.' She growled at them, turning back to Octavia who had stopped struggling at her words.
Brinley winked, a smirk lighting her features as she looked at Octavia who smiled at her.
Bellamy watched the exchange, obvious curiosity lighting his eyes. He turned to his sister. 'Let's give them something else to remember you by.'
'Like what?'
'Like being the first person on the ground in a hundred years.'
They all watched as the drop ship door opened and light filtered in. Their surroundings were beautiful and Brinley was overcome with emotion for a moment. Octavia jumped lightly off of the drop ship platform.
'We're back bitches!' She yelled as everyone else cheered. She watched as her brother grinned at her when he reached her before Octavia shoved him lightly, gesturing for him to explore without her. Brinley had lost Murphy in the crowd so she made her way to stand beside Octavia who was still grinning.
'Well that was certainly an entrance.'
Octavia laughed giddily. 'We're free.' She breathed.
Brinley laughed, the situation finally hitting her. 'We really are.'
'Thank you - for standing up for me. No one besides Bellamy has ever done that.' Octavia grinned at the taller girl.
Brinley laughed. 'That's what friends are for, right?'
Octavia looked at her in shock for a second before linking her arm with Brinley's happily. 'Exactly.'

Octavia and Brinley spent a while walking around, breathing in the fresh air around them, just enjoying each other's company. It wasn't long before the sound of a confrontation reached their ears. The two girls frowned at each other as they made their way to the group gathered around two fighting teens. Brinley rolled her eyes when she saw Murphy antagonising Wells.
It wasn't long before someone stepped in to diffuse the tension.
'Kid's got one leg, how about you wait until it's a fair fight.' Brinley rolled her eyes at Finn; aware of the sneaky glances he was shooting at Clarke when she wasn't looking.
Brinley stepped forward and grabbed Murphy by the hood of his jacket, yanking him roughly away from Finn and Wells.
'Really Murphy?' She asked, annoyance seeping into her tone.
Murphy just smirked at her as he shrugged.
'Thanks Brin.' Wells nodded at her as she pulled Murphy away.
Brinley scoffed, aware of the eyes watching her with interest.
'I didn't do it for you, Chancellor.'
Wells visibly flinched at the nickname and Brinley felt guilty for a second, though she didn't let it show.
'What happened to you Brinley?' He asked, frowning at the girl who was practically family.
Brinley laughed without humour. 'What didn't happen to me, Wells.'
'How are you alive?' Clarke asked eyeing the girl she once called a friend a frown on her face.
'I'm not supposed to be.' Brinley shrugged. 'Your mother, Wells' Dad and my father' she sneered the title. 'Handed down my death sentence this morning. Happy birthday to me, right?' She crossed her arms her words dripping with poison.
Clarke's expression dropped as Brinley mentioned her mother. 'My mum...'
'They sent her to float me, Clarke. They all decided I wasn't worth saving.'
'She wouldn't do that to you...' Clarke shook her head.
'Well she did.' Brinley shrugged. 'They can all float for all I care.'
'You don't mean that.' Clarke called as she turned around.
Brinley walked back towards her and she was pleased to see Clarke step back slightly as she approached. 'Oh but I do, princess.'
Octavia could practically taste the tension the three had unleashed, in an effort to cheer Brinley up slightly she sauntered up to Finn, a grin on her pretty face.
'Hey spacewalker! Rescue me next?' Finn smirked at her and Brinley laughed.
Octavia heard Bellamy sigh beside her. 'What? He's cute.' She smirked at her obviously uncomfortable big brother.
'He's a criminal.' Bellamy spoke tightly.
'We're all criminals here sweetie.' Brinley spoke in a falsely sweet voice as she made her way towards Octavia. 'Even you, I'm sure.'
'I don't need protecting. I have been locked up one way or another all my life. I am done following orders. I need to have fun, Bell. I need to just do something crazy just because I can, and no one, including the two of you, can stop me.' Octavia huffed.
Brinley smiled. 'Hey I won't stop you, I will join you though.' She bumped her hip against Octavia's who giggled.
Bellamy shot Brinley a look filled with annoyance, rolling his eyes at the girl. 'Can't you see that we're busy?'
Brinley mimicked him, which made Octavia laugh. Brinley walked off to the side leaving her new friend and her brother alone. She watched in amusement as Bellamy's eyes flicked to her before he pulled Octavia further away, obviously not trusting her new companion.
Brinley's ears perked up as she overheard Clarke telling someone about the wristbands sending the people on the Ark their vital signs. Without a second glance, Brinley began searching for something sharp, coming up with a jagged piece of metal that would do the trick.
Octavia could see Brinley moving around and began to wonder what the older girl was doing.
'O? Are you listening to me?'
'Yeah, sure.' Octavia looked at her big brother in amusement.
Bellamy followed her eyes and frowned.
'O, Stay away from her.' He ordered.
'What? Why?' She frowned.
'She's trouble, O.' Octavia rolled her eyes, having already deduced that herself. She just didn't care.
Brinley made her way past Bellamy and Octavia, getting the strange sense that she was currently the topic of conversation as their eyes followed her. She made her way to the fire that someone had thought to set up – Wells probably – and without further thought, stuck her hand into the open flame.
'Hey! What are you doing?' Octavia called in worry as she ran past Bellamy, who groaned and followed after his little sister.
'These wristbands tell the people on the Ark that we're still alive.' She explained, gesturing at Octavia's own wristband. 'They sent us down here knowing that we could suffer from radiation poisoning or die painfully in our descent. So, now I'm making them suffer too.'
'What do you mean?' Octavia frowned as flames licked dangerously close to Brinley's skin.
'Their computers are monitoring us, and right now I bet my vitals are fluctuating dangerously. They will see that I'm suffering and now –' She jammed the jagged metal into the wrist band, jerking it around until she felt the metal prongs withdraw from her skin painfully, and the wristband fell open. She threw the wristband on the ground between herself and the Blake siblings.
'- Now they think I'm dead.' She smirked as she walked away.
Bellamy frowned at her back, but considered her words carefully. If the ark thought they were dying, they wouldn't come down to earth. Bellamy squared his shoulders, a plan forming in his mind.
'What are you thinking, Bell?' Octavia questioned.
Bellamy smiled down at his sister. 'Nothing, O.'
