'What was that about?'
Brinley settled herself beside Murphy who had woken up sometime after Bellamy arrived, speaking up after Bellamy disappeared.
'Nothing.' Brinley shook her head.
'After last night? The hell is going on with you two?'
Brinley groaned. 'Please, not you too.'
'I feel like I'm missing something.'
Brinley sighed. 'Octavia and Miller are convinced that Bellamy and I are madly in love or someshit.'
Murphy looked at her. 'Are you?'
'Are you fucki-'
'No, seriously Brinley. Do you?'
'What, love Bellamy? No, no freaking way.' Brinley shook her head.
'Are you sure?'
'Yes I'm sure I –' Brinley looked at Murphy. 'Hey, what's wrong?'
'What are you-' Murphy moved suddenly, clutching his stomach as he began dry heaving before a thick wave of blood sprayed onto the drop ship floor.
'Murphy!' Brinley wrapped an arm around his waist as he continued to throw up blood.
'We need Clarke.' Brinley's voice wobbled.
'I'm here.' Clarke ran into the drop ship.
'Clarke he – your eyes. Clarke, what's happening?' Brinley asked in panic as Murphy choked in mouthfuls of air.
'Murphy, hey. Look at me. I need you to tell me exactly how you escaped from the grounders. What happened?' Clarke pleaded.
'I don't know. I woke up and they forgot to lock my cage. No one was around so I took off.' Murphy's voice was shaky.
'Clarke? What is it?' Brinley saw the look on her friends face.
'They let you go.' Clarke said in realisation.
'What? Clarke what's going on?'
'I-' Clarke was cut off as Bellamy appeared, walking into the drop ship.
'Bellamy, stay back!' Clarke warned.
'Did he do something to you?' Bellamy questioned as Murphy stared up at him.
Clarke shook her head as Bellamy finally saw the blood staining Clarke's face and the drop ship floor. 'What the hell is this?'
Clarke looked at Brinley and it finally hit Brinley. 'Biological Warfare.' She breathed and Clarke nodded.
'You were waiting for the grounders to retaliate for the bridge? This is it. Murphy's the weapon.'
Murphy shuddered violently as he choked on more blood and Brinley rubbed circles into his back.
'Clarke, are you okay?' Brinley asked in worry.
'I'll be fine. Are you feeling okay?' Clarke asked her.
Brinley felt Bellamy's eyes on her. 'I feel fine.'
Clarke picked up the cloth Brinley had been using to wipe Murphy's face. 'You should walk around a bit Brin; you've been in here for hours. I won't let anything happen to him.' Clarke promised. Brinley looked at Murphy who nodded at her.
She didn't go far, she just paced from one side of the drop ship to the other.
'Is this your revenge?' Bellamy questioned. 'Helping the grounders kill us?'
'I didn't know about this okay, I swear.' Murphy answered Bellamy.
'Stop lying!' Bellamy yelled.
'How about you shut up!' Brinley hissed at him.
'You think I would risk getting Brinley sick?' Murphy bit out. Bellamy had nothing to say to that.
'When are they coming?' Bellamy's voice was low.
'Murphy, think alright? What can you tell us that's useful? Did you hear anything, see anything?
'They are vicious and cruel-'
'You wanna see vicious?' Bellamy stepped forward angrily.
'Do you?' Brinley cocked her head at him.
'Bellamy don't.' Clarke warned. 'Whatever this thing is, it spreads through contact.'
Finn came rushing into the drop ship and Brinley rolled her eyes.
'Clarke what is this?' Finn asked.
'I don't know.' Clarke sighed. 'Some kind of haemorrhagic fever. We just need to contain it before-'
From the corner of the drop ship Derek, who had entered with Bellamy, started convulsing violently and Clarke hurried over to him, telling Bellamy and Finn to wash their hands.
'What the hell is happening to him?' Finn asked.
'I don't know.' Clarke breathed.
Derek continued to throw up blood and as Clarke touched him lightly, he stopped convulsing. She put two fingers to his neck and sighed.
'Is he-' Bellamy started.
'He's dead.' Clarke confirmed looking at the people in the room.
Brinley caught Murphy's eye and he looked terrified.
'What do we do?' Finn asked.
'Quarantine.' Brinley spoke up.
'Round up everyone who had contact with Murphy.' Clarke nodded to Finn and Bellamy.
'And the people they had contact with?' Bellamy questioned Clarke.
'We have to start somewhere.'
'Connor, who was with you when you found him? Who carried him in, think!' Clarke demanded of the sick boy.
'The first one there was Brinley.' Connor gestured to her weakly, seeming out of it as all eyes in the room turned to her.
'Who else was there Brinley?' Clarke asked frantically.
Brinley swallowed; worry beginning to claw its way up her throat as she looked at Bellamy. 'Bellamy...'
Bellamy shook his head at her, seeing the guilty look on her face. 'No, tell me you didn't.'
'Brinley, what-' Clarke tried.
'Bellamy-' Brinley tried again.
'Tell me you didn't drag my little sister into this!' Bellamy yelled.
Brinley gave up trying to talk to Bellamy directly, instead turning to Clarke. 'Octavia was with me, so was Monty.'
Clarke nodded as a panicked expression settled on Bellamy's face as he ran out of the drop ship.

Octavia was smiling down at Lincoln's drawings when Bellamy burst into her tent. She jumped and then sighed, seeing it was Bellamy.
'Jeez, you scared me.' Octavia tried to hide the book.
'How are you feeling?' Bellamy asked quickly.
'Fine. Get out.' Octavia turned away.
'Did you touch Murphy yesterday?'
'What?' Octavia frowned at Bellamy's odd question.
'Did you touch Murphy yesterday when you found him with Brinley?'
'I don't know, I guess so, why?' Octavia asked in confusion.
'The grounders sent him here with a virus to infect us, Derek just died from it.' Bellamy glanced at the book Octavia had tried to hide. 'Another mark for your boyfriends book.'
'Is Brinley okay?' Octavia panicked, standing up.
'She's fine.' Octavia thought she could see some relief in Bellamy's expression but it disappeared quickly. 'Clarke needs to examine you.'
*****
Brinley smiled at Octavia as she entered the drop ship behind Bellamy.
'Go help Clarke.' Murphy nudged her lightly.
'I'm not leaving you.' Brinley protested and Murphy shook his head at her in amusement.
'Half the camp is sick and if they feel as terrible as I do, they won't try to kill me. Not right now, at least.'
Brinley looked at Clarke who looked stressed and very pale. 'Fine.' Brinley sighed. 'If you need anything-'
'I'll call you.' Murphy nodded. 'Go play hero.'
Brinley made her way to Clarke with one glance over her shoulder at Murphy who was smirking at her despite how terrible he felt.
'What can I do?' Brinley asked Clarke who handed her a scrap of material to hold against her mouth as more sick people were brought in.
'Just make sure no one chokes.' Clarke advised her as Bellamy and Octavia made their way towards them.
'Hey, how are you feeling?' Clarke asked Octavia.
'I feel fine.' Octavia shrugged, glancing at Brinley. 'You okay?'
Brinley nodded. 'I think so.'
Clarke pulled out a small torch shining it in Octavia's eyes and mouth. 'Okay, we're done.' Clarke concluded. 'No visible signs of swelling or bleeding.'
'So you're saying she doesn't have it?' Bellamy sounded relieved.
'I'm saying she doesn't have symptoms, but that could change. We need to keep her here just in case.'
'No way, look at this place. She'll get sick just being here.' Bellamy protested.
'Do you want to stop the spread or not?' Clarke rolled her eyes handing Brinley the torch as her eyes locked onto something else. 'Brin, check him over for me. Octavia, we'll keep you on the third level with the others who aren't symptomatic yet.'
Brinley sighed; motioning Bellamy away, catching the look Clarke shot her. Brinley was almost certain Clarke was going to send Octavia to find Lincoln.
'Same thing as Octavia okay?' Brinley soaked her hands in alcohol, shining the light in Bellamy's eyes. 'You feeling okay?'
'I'm fine.' Bellamy sounded annoyed.
'Open up.' Brinley checked for any signs of swelling, not finding any. 'Feeling any desire to cough up a bucket load of blood?'
Bellamy's lips twitched into a smile. 'No, but if that changes I'll let you know.' Brinley nodded. 'I think you're okay. But that could change.' Brinley warned.
'You okay?' Bellamy asked her and she nodded.
'Send anyone sick in here straight away alright?' Bellamy nodded at her but hesitated.
'If you aren't sick, you shouldn't be in here.'
'Bellamy, Clarke and I are the only ones who've had any sort of medical training. I'll be fine in here okay?'
'Alright.' Bellamy glanced at Octavia, who was standing on the ladder, before he left.
Brinley made her way to her friend. 'You're going to find Lincoln, aren't you?'
Octavia nodded. 'Hopefully he has a cure.'
Brinley nodded, feeling dizzy for a second. 'Brin?' Octavia asked in concern.
'I'm okay. Go see Lincoln, try not to get caught.'
Octavia nodded grimly as she left.

A few hours later Brinley heard the sounds of panic get louder outside the drop ship and she stuck her head out enough to see Bellamy and Finn struggling to control the crowd of scared teenagers.
Clarke came back in, looking at Brinley who had already grabbed two guns, handing one to Clarke.
Together the girls opened fire into the air and Brinley watched in amusement, as Bellamy looked startled for a second.
'This is exactly what the grounders want.' Clarke looked unsteady on her feet and Brinley walked along beside her incase she fell. 'Don't you see that?'
'They don't have to kill us if we kill each other first.' Brinley added onto Clarke's statement, noting how breathless the blonde sounded.
'They won't have to kill us if we all catch the virus!" One of the gun-toting delinquents stepped forwards, gun pointed at Clarke. 'Get back in the damn drop ship!"
Brinley moved quickly, kicking the boy in the ribs and tearing his gun out of his hands. Bellamy moved towards her. 'Not to state the obvious, but your quarantine isn't working.' He looked at Clarke.
Brinley tried to reach Clarke as she fell but Finn got there first. Brinley could see the hurt on Raven's face, as Finn didn't hesitate to catch her.
'Octavia will come back with a cure.' Clarke breathed.
'There is no cure!' Octavia had reappeared. 'But the grounders don't use the sickness to kill.'
'Really? Tell that to them.' Bellamy pointed to the bodies of their fallen camp mates. 'I warned you about seeing that grounder again.'
'Yeah?' Octavia challenged. 'Well I have a warning for you too. The grounders are coming! And they're attacking at first light.'
People began whispering amongst themselves and Bellamy looked visibly stressed.
Octavia went to walk past Bellamy but Bellamy stopped her. Octavia jerked her arm out of Bellamy's grip, pulling Brinley aside where they couldn't be seen.
'I'm leaving.' Octavia whispered.
'What?' Brinley frowned. 'Octavia-'
'I'm going with Lincoln. I just, I thought you should know.'
'O, do you really think-'
Brinley watched as Octavia's eyes widened. 'Oh no, Brin.'
Brinley was confused until she reached up to her face, feeling warm blood on her cheeks. 'Oh fuck.' She wiped at her skin with her sleeve. 'Is it all gone?'
Octavia nodded. 'You should go lie down.'
Brinley shook her head. 'No, I'll be fine. If the grounders are coming there are things that need doing if we're going to have any chance of surviving at all.'
'Brin-'
'Don't. If you want to leave I can't stop you. But O, please make sure you're doing it for the right reasons.'
Octavia looked slightly offended and Brinley elaborated. 'I want you to be happy, and if this will make you happy go for it. But please don't do it just because you know it'll piss off your brother.'
Octavia nodded in understanding, seeing where Brinley was coming from. Brinley went to walk away before she stopped. 'Hey, O?'
'Yeah?'
'Keep this,' She gestured to her bloody sleeve, 'quiet okay?'
Octavia frowned but nodded.
'Make sure you say goodbye before you ride off into the sunset.' Brinley snorted and Octavia cracked a smile.
'Sure thing.'
Brinley went back into the drop ship to check on Murphy only to find he had given up his hammock for Clarke and had volunteered to help the sick people in the drop ship. 'You feeling better?' She questioned as she made her way to him.
'Yeah, actually.' Murphy nodded. 'You good?' He asked in concern.
Brinley bit her lip and nodded. Murphy shot her a sceptical look but didn't say anything as Octavia joined him in helping the sick. 'I'm going to go see if Bellamy has come up with a plan to save our asses.' Brinley decided, starting to feel a little warm.
'Brin, be careful.' Octavia warned and Brinley nodded.
Murphy looked at Octavia as Brinley exited the drop ship and spoke to her in a low voice. 'She's sick, isn't she?'
Octavia looked up in surprise seeing no point in lying to Murphy, who knew Brinley better than anyone. 'Yeah, she is.'
*****
'We're running out of gunpowder.'
Brinley heard Raven's voice and sighed. 'Well that's not a very comforting thought.' She mused as she entered the tent, finding Bellamy, Raven, Harper, Jasper and Monty inside. Brinley shoved her hands deep into her jacket pockets, forcing herself not to come into contact with anyone.
'Oh, we're so dead.' Harper agreed.
'Hey Monty, you one of the immune?' Brinley asked her friend who looked healthy.
'Apparently. So are you I see?' Monty smiled.
Brinley smiled back at him. 'Just let me know if you feel sick okay?'
Monty nodded. 'Will do.'
Finn appeared beside Brinley. 'It won't matter anyway if there's no one left who can shoot. What do we need to build a bomb?'
'Depends on what you're trying to blow up.' Raven answered.
'How about a bridge?'
'What are you talking about?' Bellamy asked.
'Murphy said he crossed a bridge on the way back here from the grounders camp. Sound familiar?'
Bellamy nodded. 'Yeah. So what?'
'So the virus is fast, he's already getting better. Blowing the bridge won't stop the attack, but the longer we can delay it, the more of us will be able to fight.'
Brinley nodded her head at Finn's words. 'He's got a point, Bellamy.'
'Even if Murphy is telling the truth, and that's a big 'if' that bridge had survived a nuclear war and 97 years of weather.' Bellamy countered
'It won't survive me.' Raven replied sassily, a smirk lighting up her face.
*****
'Okay. You can come in now!'
Bellamy, Finn and Brinley had been waiting for Raven to finish collecting and storing the hydrazine she had gotten from the exodus ship in a tense silence and at Raven's call, they all entered the tent.
Bellamy was staring at the hydrazine and Brinley saw a cheeky smile appear on Raven's face as she yelled 'Boom!' Making Bellamy jump slightly.
'That's cute.' Bellamy rolled his eyes.
'Relax, it needs an accelerant, like gunpowder.'
'Hydrazine, put the gun powder around the hydrazine, hit the bulls eye... win a prize.' Raven explained, showing them how the bomb worked.
Brinley felt dizziness hit her again so she stepped back outside, the cool air felt good against her feverish skin. She was making sure not to touch anything she didn't have to. From where she stood she could hear Finn, Bellamy and Raven arguing and she rolled her eyes, entering the tent again as Raven and Finn talked quietly to each other.
Bellamy looked like he was thinking hard about something, and it was only by chance that Brinley glanced over at him, seeing the blood starting to drip down his face.
Without a second thought Brinley grabbed Bellamy, forcing him out of the tent much to Raven and Finn's confusion.
'What are you-' Bellamy hadn't realised what was happening.
'You're going to have to find someone else to take the shot.' Brinley warned grimly, gesturing to the blood on his face.
Bellamy wiped at his face as he swayed slightly on his feet. He looked hard at her as she steadied him slightly. 'You don't look so hot.'
'Thanks, that's just what a girl wants to hear.'
'No, I mean you look sick.'
Brinley avoided his eyes.
'You are sick.' He said in realisation.
'I'll be fine. Don't worry I haven't touched anything.' She shook her head, pushing her sweaty hair off of her forehead.
Bellamy looked around briefly, stumbling over to Jasper. Brinley watched him go, watching as he spoke to her friend, presumably telling him to take the shot on the bomb. She saw Jasper nod.
Bellamy went to walk away but he tipped sideways into a tent. 'Bellamy!' Jasper panicked as Brinley reached Bellamy.
'No! Stay back. Make the shot. Get a gun and find Finn, go. ' He warned Jasper and Jasper nodded.
'C'mon hot shot, we gotta get you inside.' Brinley commented as she reached Bellamy.
'You-your-' Bellamy panted slightly.
Brinley felt wetness on her cheeks again and she wiped at them hastily. 'I know.'
'How long?' Bellamy tried to stand up as Brinley tried to keep him upright.
'Few hours.' Brinley muttered.
Together they stumbled into the drop ship, Bellamy was getting worse and Brinley could fell nausea starting to hit her too.
'Bellamy? No.' Brinley heard Octavia. 'Clear some space!' She rushed at the two.
Brinley and Octavia lowered Bellamy onto one of the makeshift beds. But the second Bellamy was flat on his back he started choking and the two girls hurriedly turned him on his side as he started throwing up.
'Hey big brother.' Octavia smiled gently at him, pushing his sweaty hair off of his face as Brinley settled onto a mattress beside the two, trying to fight of the nausea that was rising.
'I'm scared.' Bellamy admitted quietly.
'I won't let anything happen to you.' Octavia assured him.
'That's what I said to you the day you were born.' Bellamy whispered.
'I know, you've only told me a thousand times.' Octavia laughed and Bellamy smiled at her.
'I'm glad you're here.' Bellamy gripped Octavia's hand tightly.
'Just get some rest, okay?'
Octavia looked up, noticing the way Brinley was sitting with her hand clamped over her mouth. 'Brin?' She asked in concern.
Brinley shook her head as she leaned over, the taste of hot acrid blood filling her mouth until she was forced to open it, splashing crimson across the floor.
Bellamy looked to his left tiredly as Murphy gripped Brinley's shoulder. 'Hey, Brin, it's okay. You're an idiot you know, you should have been in here hours ago.'
Brinley looked at Octavia. 'You told him?' She gasped out.
Octavia shook her head. 'He already knew. But he's right, you probably made it worse for yourself.'
Brinley shrugged. 'Just make sure everyone stays hydrated okay?'
Octavia laughed. 'You sound like Clarke.'
'Get some rest, both of you.' Octavia ordered as someone else began choking and she and Murphy hurried away.
Brinley was lying on her side now and she could see the fear in Bellamy's face. 'You'll be okay Bellamy.' Her words were quiet and sluggish but he heard them as a tear slid down his cheek. Bellamy Blake was scared to die.
'Will I?' He asked quietly.
Brinley felt tears fill her own eyes as she looked at Bellamy's terrified face. 'I don't wanna die.' She admitted to him quietly.
With what strength he had left, Bellamy reached for her hand, holding it when Brinley didn't protest immediately.
'You aren't going to die. I won't let that happen.'
Brinley looked at him through wet lashes and Bellamy swore that in that moment, distraught, vulnerable and covered in blood he'd never seen her look quite so pretty. Brinley decided that she liked this Bellamy, the Bellamy that let his guard down and held her hand and let her cry into his chest when he knew she was struggling. She wished this Bellamy was around more.
'We'll both be okay.' She whispered and together, in a virus infected room surrounded by the sick and dying, Brinley and Bellamy finally let themselves rest, their hands still entwined.
