Clarke had disappeared with the commander to discuss the terms of their truce, and now Brinley was bored. Bellamy was on guard duty and Octavia was once again occupied with Lincoln, leaving Brinley in the company of one John Murphy.
'So you saved the grounder?' Murphy drawled, seemingly amused with what his best friend was telling him.
'Yes Murphy, I helped saved the grounder, do I have to spell it out for you? Draw you a picture, maybe?' Brinley rolled her eyes as she sipped at her drink.
Night had fallen and news of Clarke's imminent negotiation with the commander had spread like wildfire, prompting an almost relaxed atmosphere throughout the Arkadians.
Murphy snickered. 'No, no I get it. It's just...'
'Just what?' Brinley asked impatiently.
'You're different. You're not the same person you were on the Ark.'
Brinley quirked an eyebrow. 'Are any of us?'
Murphy sighed. 'Yeah, I guess you're right.'
'Speaking of saving people...' Brinley traced the rim of her glass. 'Bellamy told me what you did – how you saved him and Mel when the grounders attacked and Monroe and Finn were distracted.'
Murphy looked uncomfortable. 'Don't believe everything that comes out of Bellamy's mouth.'
'You could have them go. You could have saved yourself but you didn't. Doesn't really sound like the John Murphy who landed on the ground, does it?' Brinley pressed.
'I only did it for you, I didn't do it for him.' Murphy shifted in his seat, cheeks flushing slightly at the amount of gratitude in Brinley's voice.
'I know.' Brinley shrugged as the intense atmosphere lightened. 'And I love you for it.'
Murphy smiled briefly before the smile turned into his familiar smirk. 'You're still a bitch though.'
'And you're still an asshole, but I wouldn't have you anything other way.'
Brinley spun around in her chair as raised voices filled the air, the familiar glow of a fiery torch coming towards them.
'The hell is that?' Murphy questioned aloud.
'It could be Clarke, I should go see what's happening.'
Murphy nodded. 'Go, thanks for the talk dollface.'
Brinley pecked Murphy's cheek quickly as she raced towards the gate, where Bellamy stood with his gun raised. 'Is it Clarke?'
'I think so.' Bellamy lowered his gun and spoke to the people surrounding him. 'Hold your fire! She's back!'
The gates were pulled open and Brinley immediately noticed that the satisfied expression she was expecting to see on Clarke's face was missing. Instead the blonde's face was taut with tension and she seemed uneasy.
Finn appeared, racing towards Clarke. 'You okay?' He asked breathlessly.
The uneasy expression seemed to deepen as Clarke looked away from Finn, her voice coming out shaky and panicked. 'Shut the gate!'
Clarke grabbed at Finn's wrist, practically dragging him away with Brinley and Bellamy following. 'You can't be out here.'
Clarke embraced her Mum, eyes still flitting around nervously.
'What did she say? Is there a chance for a truce?' Abby questioned as Raven appeared, looking wary.
'Yes.' Clarke confirmed.
Brinley frowned, her eyes meeting Finn's briefly before he spoke. 'What's wrong?'
'They want you.' Clarke seemed almost dazed as she looked at Finn. 'If we want a truce, we have to give them Finn.'
Murmurs broke out amongst those listening immediately and Brinley felt her heart sink.
'What the hell are you talking about?' Raven demanded.
'That's their offer.'
'That's not an offer.' Raven denied.
'It's punishment.' Finn stated calmly. 'For what happened at the village, blood for blood.'
'That's insane.' Bellamy sighed.
'If we refuse?'
'They attack.'
'I say we give him up!' A yell came from the back of the watching crowd.
'Get rid of him!'
'Murderer!'
'Give him to the grounders.' One man stepped forward menacingly.
'Back off!' Raven shoved the man back forcefully. Brinley grabbed her, tugging her away while Bellamy held the man from striking back.
'Hey Raven, Raven listen to me. Nothing is going to happen to him. I promise, okay?' Clarke tried to calm Raven down, and it appeared to be working as Raven nodded as Brinley released her.
'I'm not dying for him! Spacewalker burned three months of oxygen from the Ark, he should've floated a long time ago. Throw him out!'
This time instead of a forceful shove, Raven punched the man, also punching Byrne when she tried to break up the commotion.
Two guards grabbed Raven and hauled her away and all Brinley could do was watch as the commotion continued.
*****
Eventually the angry crowd dispersed after a stern warning from Abby that no one was to lay a hand on Finn. Clarke, Abby, Byrne and Bellamy had already begun strategizing and planning and in the midst of the chaos none of them had noticed Finn quietly slip away, a pensive look on his face.
But Brinley had, and apparently so had Murphy, who had appeared to watch the drama that had become their lives unfold, and somewhere along the way, had found himself in possession of a gun.
Murphy began following Finn before Brinley could, gun swinging casually, only stopping when he felt the shorter girl tug at his arm. 'Murphy, what are you doing?'
'Going to chat with spacewalker, wanna come?' Murphy smirked before he began walking again as he followed Finn's movements, Brinley almost reluctantly following.
Finn's eyes were glassy and unfocused when they found him, seemingly deep in thought and Brinley considered leaving him alone, until Murphy casually sat down beside him, pulling Finn from his thoughts.
'Hey, man. Byrne actually gave me a gun, I guess we really are screwed, huh?' Finn didn't reply to Murphy's obvious attempt at lightening the mood as Brinley settled beside him.
Murphy sighed. 'Look, we kicked their asses last time, we'll do it again.'
'A lot of people died last time.' Finn shot back.
'Hey we're reinforcing all our defences.' Bellamy and Clarke had appeared, Clarke looking considerably more hopeful than she had earlier. 'Doubles on the perimeter, no ones getting past that wire.'
'I'll see where they're thin.' Finn suggested.
'No.' Bellamy denied immediately. 'You should head inside, B corridor will be easier to defend if it comes to that.'
Finn frowned. 'I'm not gonna hide.'
'Right now, we have to think about keeping you safe. I'm gonna talk to Lincoln.' Clarke tried to smile.
'Come on.' Bellamy gestured for Finn to follow him, and after a moment of hesitation, he did.
'Hey, any orders for me, princess?' Murphy stood up, making his presence known to the blonde who had been purposefully ignoring him.
'Stay away from me.' Clarke ordered, ignoring the frown on Brinley's face.
'Just trying to be helpful.' Murphy was being genuine, and Brinley could see that from the openness in his expression.
'You were with him at the village.' Clarke stated.
'I tried to stop him.' Murphy reminded Clarke, not liking what the blonde was implying.
'Clarke.' Brinley warned, but her presence went ignored.
'Not hard enough.' Clarke snapped back viciously.
'You know what, you want to start blaming people, Clarke? He was out there looking for you.' Murphy reminded her as the blonde walked away.
'Ignore her, she's being a bitch.' Brinley turned to Murphy whose expression had turned hostile.
'Give it up Brin, I'll never be anything but a criminal to them. Everything will always be my fault.' Murphy snorted.
'We're all criminals Murphy.' Brinley squeezed Murphy's arm.
'Yeah, try telling that to them.' Murphy shook off the gentle touch, turning and walking away.
*****
Brinley found Bellamy and Finn in a tense silence, Clarke nowhere in sight.
'Where's Clarke?' Finn remarked upon seeing the brunette.
'Don't know, don't care.' Brinley shrugged. 'How long can we keep this up?'
'As long as we have to.' Bellamy shrugged, looking at her curiously. 'What happened?'
'What?' Brinley acted clueless.
'With Clarke, what happened?'
Brinley sighed. 'She blamed Murphy for the massacre. Apparently he didn't try hard enough to stop it happening so it's automatically Murphy's fault.'
'Murphy didn't do anything.' Finn interjected quietly.
'I know that, Finn.' Brinley rubbed at her eyes tiredly.
'I can talk to her-'
'There's no point. She'd do anything to save you Finn, she loves you even if she won't admit it.'
'You think so?'
'It's pretty obvious.' Brinley shrugged. 'Clarke and Raven would give themselves up if it meant you could live.'
'This is all my fault.' Finn sighed.
Brinley snorted. 'You think?'
'Atleast you're honest.' Finn laughed half-heartedly. 'Don't know how you put up with it.' Finn looked at Bellamy whose lips pulled up into a smile.
'She grows on you.'
Brinley flushed and flipped Bellamy off, causing the smile to grow larger as he returned to staring at the door, seemingly waiting for an attack. After a silent half hour Bellamy turned to Brinley and Finn who were seated on the floor, leaning against the only makeshift bed in the room.
'I'm going to check in with Byrne, I'll be back.'
'Okay.' Brinley yawned.
The second Bellamy was out of earshot, Finn turned to Brinley. 'What would you do?'
'Huh?'
'What would you do if you were me?'
'Honestly?'
'That's why I'm asking.'
Brinley thought for a moment before she swallowed thickly. 'If it were me, if it meant keeping everyone else safe, I'd turn myself in.'
Finn let out a breath of air. 'That's what I thought.'
'But I'm a psychopathic bitch so....' Brinley shrugged, eliciting a small smile from Finn.
'You know what I find strange though?' Brinley spoke quietly after a few moments. 'That all these people care so much about you, yet they haven't stopped to ask you what you want.'
'What do you mean?' Finn frowned.
'They all just made a decision for you, and I don't think death is how you should be punished, you should know that, but Clarke, Raven, Bellamy... They didn't really give you a chance to make your own choice. If it were me, I'd want to make my own decision.'
'I hadn't really looked at it like that.' Finn seemed deep in thought.
'They mean well, but ultimately you're the only one who can decide how this goes. Just know that all of us will fight for you, if that's what you want.'
Finn nodded. 'I appreciate it. You're a good person Brinley Kane.
'So you should, and you're not so bad yourself Collins.' Brinley nudged Finn playfully and Finn nudged her back just as Bellamy appeared.
'Any news?'
Bellamy shook his head. 'Nothing's changed. The riders are still at the gates.'
Brinley sighed. 'The sun will be up in a few hours, I'm gonna get some sleep.'
'You're gonna sleep here?' Finn questioned.
'Yup. Wake me up if something happens.' Brinley's eyes met Bellamy's amused ones. 'I mean it Bellamy.'
'Sure thing sweetheart.'
Brinley smirked as she settled in, exhaustion pulling her into unconsciousness almost immediately.
Finn couldn't help but think about what Brinley had said to him, and the more he thought about it the more her reasoning made sense. Finn wanted to survive, but at the same time his survival could mean the death of his friends, his people, and that thought sent a painful pang through his chest.
Bellamy crouched down beside Brinley who was breathing softly, her face relaxed. Bellamy eyed the thin singlet she was wearing as he unzipped his jacket, pulling it off and placing it over her sleeping form.
'You care about her a lot, don't you?' Finn, tired looking but still awake, was staring at Bellamy.
Bellamy was quiet for a moment before he spoke. 'Yeah, I do.'
*****
Brinley woke a few hours later, still tired but much more alert. Bellamy was sitting down now, and Finn was blinking rapidly, seemingly just having woken up himself.
'Nothing's changed then?' Brinley yawned.
'Not really, Byrne put extra security outside so Finn can have some privacy. I'm about to go, you coming?'
'I guess. You'll be okay?' Brinley questioned Finn who nodded.
'I can't get into much trouble in here, can I?'
Brinley sniggered, standing up; realising that the jacket she held wasn't her own.
Bellamy was already watching her when she looked up at him, grinning sheepishly. 'Here's your jacket.'
'Thanks sweetheart.' Bellamy shrugged the jacket on, turning to Finn. 'Clarke's coming to see you.'
Finn nodded as the two turned to leave.
'Hey.' Brinley and Bellamy turned to look at Finn, who was staring directly at Brinley. 'Thank you.'
Brinley smiled, ignoring the questioning gaze Bellamy was giving them. 'Anytime, spacewalker.'
'What was that about?' Bellamy asked as the two walked away, passing Clarke who barely glanced at them as she passed.
Brinley shrugged. 'Nothing.'
*****
The grounders had begun chanting and though she would never admit it, Brinley was terrified.
Brinley was standing beside Bellamy who was frowning. 'They're trying to scare us.' He called out, refusing to show even the slightest amount on vulnerability.
Abby Griffin marched towards the grounders demanding the gate be opened. Bellamy walked behind Abby with his gun raised, standing between Brinley and Clarke who didn't even glance at each other.
'Where the boy?' The grounder spoke immediately in clear English.
'We're not giving him up, we're ready to fight if that's what it comes to.' Abby's voice was strong.
A horn sounded in the distance and the riders glanced at each other before they rode off into the woods.
'Watch the woods!' Bellamy commanded. 'Watch for movement!'
Clarke seemed to see something no one else had. 'Bellamy.'
'Movement on the tree line!'
Brinley's eyes were drawn to the tree line as she searched to see what everyone else clearly was seeing.
'Don't shoot! Don't shoot!'
The voice was familiar and Brinley felt her heart rate increase as the figure of a person got closer and closer.
Bellamy watched, a confused expression on his features as Marcus Kane finally reached the camp gates.
Brinley had frozen beside Bellamy, unable to fully comprehend what was happening. The search team they'd send out for Kane had never returned and Brinley had just assumed her Father had died – really died this time.
But yet, there he was. Standing right in her line of vision, alive and well.
He hadn't seen her yet and for that Brinley was thankful. He mind was a jumbled mess of emotions.
'Marcus?' Abby asked in disbelief.
'Chancellor.'
'I was afraid that I wouldn't see you again.' Abby sounded elated, though she was trying to disguise it under a layer of authority.
'I had those fears myself.'
While Abby and Kane were conversing quietly, Bellamy glanced down to where Brinley was, only to see the empty space beside him.
Brinley snuck away, her feet finally complying, tears burning in her eyes, whether from happiness, confusion or anger she didn't know.
All Brinley knew was that she had to get away.
Bellamy handed Clarke his gun, his eyes following Brinley's movements. 'Get them out of the open, you know where to take them. Make sure your Mum tells Kane....' Bellamy trailed off as Clarke nodded, her eyes flicking to Brinley's retreating form.
Brinley wiped at her cheeks squeaking in surprise as someone tugged her into one of the vacant rooms.
'What are you doing Bellamy?' Brinley gasped out as she turned around.
'The question is what are you doing? You can't just run away Brinley.'
Brinley's eyes narrowed. 'You don't get to tell me what I can and can't do Bellamy.'
'Your Father's alive, I know you Brinley, I know you were worried about him.' Bellamy's tone softened as he reached for her waist, his eyes glancing at the small remnants of tears on her cheeks.
'I just need a moment to process it.' Brinley pulled away from Bellamy's touch as though it had burned her.
'You need to talk to him.' Bellamy pressed.
'No, I –'
Just as Brinley spoke the doors slid open and Abby and Marcus appeared, Clarke watching from behind.
Marcus' expression showed disbelief, awe, relief and happiness at the sight of his daughter, alive and well in front of him. Marcus wasn't winning any awards for Father of the year, but even though Brinley often didn't realise it, her Father loved her.
'Brinley?' Marcus' voice was quiet, shaking slightly as he spoke.
Brinley turned her large doe eyes to her Father, rendered speechless.
Marcus stepped forward slowly. 'Can we have a moment?'
Abby nodded, ushering everyone out of the room. It didn't escape Bellamy's notice that Brinley refused to look at him.
Brinley was the first to speak. 'So you're alive then.'
'I am. As are you.'
'Good observation.'
Marcus sighed. 'Brinley-'
'If it's a sappy reunion like Clarke and Abby's that you're waiting for – you're not going to get it.'
'I'm not-'
'Sometimes I think I hate you.' Brinley ignored the way Marcus flinched. 'But I don't, and I don't think I ever told you that. So I don't hate you, and I'm glad you're okay.'
Brinley hoped her words would allow her to leave the room through the doorway that Marcus had strategically placed himself in front of, and while Brinley certainly meant what she was saying, she didn't expect her honestly to elicit such a reaction from her Father.
Kane embraced his daughter for the first time since she was a very young child, squeezing her gently as though to reassure himself she was there. 'I know I'm not a very good Father and I haven't been around much but you're my daughter, and I love you Brinley.'
Brinley stood straight making no move to return the affectionate gesture, something that Marcus had expected, though she didn't immediately shove him away.
Brinley relaxed slightly as her Father released her. 'I know you're going to talk to Abby about Finn. He deserves to be punished, but not by death. This isn't the Ark.'
Marcus nodded stepping aside as Brinley opened the doors, nodding at Abby, who was glancing at a restrained Jaha, as she passed. Clarke had disappeared – to see Finn no doubt – and Brinley was left alone with Bellamy.
'How did it go?'
Brinley kept walking, already knowing that Bellamy would follow her. 'Brinley, c'mon.'
'What do you want me to say Bellamy? You forced me into doing something I wasn't entirely ready to do.' Brinley got out through her teeth.
Bellamy frowned. 'It's not like that – '
'Yes it is. You took me in there because you knew once I was in there I couldn't leave without seeing him. I didn't have a choice.' Brinley scoffed.
Bellamy sighed. 'I'm sorry you see it that way, I was trying to help – '
'I know!' Brinley exploded. 'I know.' She lowered her voice. 'I know it came from a good place, and that you had good intentions but I don't like not having a choice in things that directly affect me. You can't make decisions for other people Bellamy.'
Bellamy sighed and nodded. 'I understand. I'm sorry.'
Brinley gave in, wrapping her arms around Bellamy who reciprocated the affection immediately.
'Did it go alright though?' Bellamy rested his chin on top of her head.
'Better than expected.' Brinley confirmed, her fingers absentmindedly rubbing patterns into Bellamy's back through his shirt, sending shivers up his spine.
'Good. I'm glad.'
'Hey, lovebirds. Have they decided anything yet?' Raven appeared, looking tense and worried.
'Not yet. I'm waiting here until they decide so they can't evade our questions.' Brinley sighed.
'Did you talk to your Dad about Finn at all?' Raven asked.
'Yeah, I told him Finn doesn't deserve to die, but that he does deserve to be punished.'
Raven frowned and nodded in reluctant acceptance. 'Thanks.'
'Let's just hope it works.'
The three waited, and waited, until finally – over an hour later the doors slid open again and Abby appeared, her expression carefully composed.
'What's happening?' Raven questioned immediately.
'You were in there a long time.' Bellamy frowned.
'There was a lot to talk about.' Abby replied in a monotone.
'Well what's going on?' Raven asked in panic.
'There was a lot to talk about – '
'Hey, We are not turning him over to the grounders.' Bellamy stopped Abby's swift retreat.
'Step aside, now.' Abby ordered.
Bellamy did as he was told reluctantly.
'We are all trying to find a way out of this.' Abby told the trio solemnly.
'Yeah, well try harder.' Brinley stared Abby dead in the face and not for the first time; Abby was left with the feeling that Brinley could see straight through her. Ignoring the feeling the best she could, Abby hurried away.
'They're gonna give him up.' Brinley spoke the moment Abby disappeared.
'They can't.' Bellamy shook his head in disbelief.
'This is what they do. It's all they know how to do.' Brinley tone was full of contempt. 'C'mon, we have to find Finn.'
*****
Brinley breathed out a sigh of relief as Clarke moved her head, groaning faintly.
They'd spit up on the way to the dropship and Clarke and Finn had been attacked. The sight of Finn appearing with an unconscious bloodied Clarke had startled Brinley enough that she'd forgotten she was upset with the blonde, and instead all she felt was terror that she might lose someone else, one of her oldest friends at that.
Raven was trying to console a panicked Finn, who was far more freaked out than Brinley had ever seen him.
Murphy and Bellamy had disappeared to keep eyes on any possible attacks and Brinley could feel the tension in the room as Finn stared at Raven and Clarke. With an eye roll, Brinley left the dropship in search of Bellamy and Murphy.
Bellamy found her first, coming up from behind her. 'Everything okay.'
'Yeah. Heart to hearts really aren't my thing.' Brinley shrugged, pulling her small pistol from the waistband of her jeans. 'Anything?'
'Not yet.' Bellamy shook his head.
'You know they'll find us, right? Bellamy we can't run forever.'
'She's right.' Murphy came into view looking entirely too casual for the situation.
'We'll worry about that later, alright.'
'Later? There won't be a later if...'
Brinley ignored Bellamy and Murphy's bickering as her eyes were drawn to a small movement in the trees. Her eyes widened as she fully took in what she was seeing.
'They're here, they're here!' Brinley interrupted Bellamy and Murphy as Bellamy looked down the scope of his gun.
'We got company! Get out here!' Bellamy called out to Finn, Clarke and Raven. 'Get down! Grounders.'
'We're surrounded.' Clarke breathed.
*****
'They're not getting any closer.'
'Staying out of range. Probably waiting until it's dark.'
The group was inside the dropship again, unable to leave due to the grounder force surrounding them.
'If we hit them now, at least we'd take them by surprise.' Murphy's thinking was logical, but impractical in their situation.
'We don't even know how many are out there.' Clarke voice Brinley's own thoughts.
'I' not hearing any better ideas Clarke.' Murphy shot back.
'We'll give them something.' Raven was pacing.
'All they want is Finn.'
'Finn wasn't the only one at the village.' Raven refused to meet anyone's eyes.
'You bitch...' Brinley breathed. 'You fucking bitch!'
'Raven what are you talking about?' Clarke questioned.
'Raven, hold on-'
'Whoa, whoa, whoa. Raven I came here to protect him you were the one who wanted me to come. You –' Realisation seemed to hit Murphy. 'That's why you wanted me to come alone...'
'Enough grounders saw him at the village. They'd believe he was the shooter.'
'Sick bitch.' Murphy shook his head.
'Raven, you don't mean this-'
'You know what they do to people-'
'They want a murderer, we'll give them one.' Raven's face twisted as she spoke, raising her gun and aiming it at Murphy. 'Drop you gun.'
Brinley moved before anyone else could, lifting her own gun to Raven's head. 'How about you drop yours?'
'Go to hell Raven.' Murphy spat.
'Put it down Raven. Like it or not, he's one of us.'
'I said, drop it.'
'Stop! Stop!' Finn stood in front of Murphy forcing Raven to drop her weapon as Brinley lowered hers. 'They've got us surrounded, the only thing we can do is stay and defend this place.'
'I'm with you.' Bellamy, Clarke, Raven and Brinley nodded.
'Murphy?'
'Yeah.'
'Go upstairs and watch the rear. Brinley and I will take the lower level. You three take the front gate. That's the plan, all right?'
Each of them nodded as they moved into position.
'Hey.' Raven stopped in front of Finn. 'We got this, alright?'
Finn nodded, pulling Raven in for a hug and Brinley couldn't help but think that it looked a lot like a goodbye rather than a see you soon.
'May we meet again.'
Raven gave Finn a strange look. 'We will.'
'Yeah.' Finn nodded.
Brinley pulled up the hatch to the lower level as Clarke and Finn stared at each other.
'Be careful.' Finn whispered.
Clarke nodded. 'You too.'
Brinley felt tears sting her eyes as Finn looked at her. 'You were right. It's my decision. I have to do what's right.'
Brinley nodded. 'I understand.'
'I know you do, that's why you're here with me instead of out there with them.' Finn's hands were shaking but he seemed determined.
'Promise me something?'
'Sure?'
'Take care of them.' Brinley didn't have to ask whom he was referring to. 'Both of them.'
'I will. I promise.'
'Finn nodded. 'Good.'
'They're going to be so pissed at me, you know that right?'
'You can handle it.' Finn shot her a smile, pulling her into a gentle hug. 'May we meet again.'
'May we meet again.' Brinley nodded as he pulled away.
Brinley watched him disappear down to the lower level, and she gave him thirty seconds before she followed.
Brinley appeared just as Finn stepped into view of the grounders and Clarke began screaming at him. Finn just raised his arms; his hands now steady, nodding towards Brinley one last time as the grounders appeared, dragging him towards his fate.
Clarke turned on Brinley immediately. 'What did you do? What did you do!' She screamed at Brinley, advancing on her.
'You let him go! How could you let him go!' Raven was in Brinley's face.
'Finn made his own decision! You need to respect that!' Brinley shoved the two girls away from her, her heart heavy in her chest.
'Respect that? He's going to die because of you!' Clarke sobbed.
'I did what you were all too selfish to do! I gave him a choice!' Brinley screamed, her voice breaking. 'Now you can sit here and cry or you can pick yourselves up and respect Finn's wishes.'
'Screw you.' Raven spat at Brinley as she picked up her pack, her gun and walked away.
Brinley watched the two girls go, shaking off Bellamy's hand from her shoulder as he and Murphy came up beside her. She knew Bellamy was disappointed in her, but in that moment she didn't really care.
It wasn't up to him.
It wasn't up to her.
Or Raven.
Or Clarke.
It was up to Finn, and spacewalker had made his decision.
*****
Brinley stood stone faced beside Bellamy, as Clarke, across from the camp surrounded by the grounders and their commander, pulled away from Finn, who had slumped against the post he was tied to finally motionless – completely unmoving.
Raven's answering scream at the realisation that Finn was dead, and that Clarke had killed him, was something that Brinley was sure would haunt her nightmares forever. As Raven collapsed, Bellamy reached for her, trying to console his friend though shock and grief was written across his own face.
As grief and surprise rolled across the watching Arkadians, Brinley stepped away from the group, unnoticed, walking quietly back towards her sleeping quarters before anyone could see the tears begin spilling down her cheeks.
Because it was over. They had their truce, the peace they'd all wanted so badly, but in the process they'd had to sacrifice one of their own. Another of the original 100 was gone, and Brinley felt sick at the thought that the number could get any lower.
But she'd worry more about that tomorrow. Because for now, only one person, one life - now nothing but a memory - played in her mind and on the back of her eyelids like an endless torturous loop.
Spacewalker – Finn – was gone.
