2 - Escape

*NOT EDITED*

Trying to get to the good stuff ahaha

*****

'How long are you going to keep me locked up in here?'

Bellamy spoke the moment Kane appeared, pausing his pacing to question the man he had a strong disliking for. Bellamy knew he wasn't innocent; he'd done many questionable things in his lifetime, from shooting Jaha to allowing a handful of the teenaged criminals hang one of their own, yet the new Chancellor wasn't holding him in regard to any of the more lethal things he'd done; instead Bellamy was being held for assaulting someone who'd tried to murder him.

Bellamy Blake was enraged- and desperate to escape his cage.

'Until I'm confident you're no longer a threat to others.' Kane pulled out a chair, looking entirely too casual and unworried considering that he was now in charge of a large number of people, had crash landed on foreign soil, over half their population was dead and a large group of criminal teenagers were unaccounted for – his daughter included. 'Now, let's continue.'

Bellamy balled his hands into tensed fists, anger coursing through his body.

'You said there were hundreds of grounders attacking, two? Three hundred?'

'I didn't count.' Bellamy snarkily replied, having told the man everything already.

'Why do you think they attacked? What provoked them?' Kane continued, ignoring the malice in Bellamy's voice.

'We were here, that was enough. We're wasting time! The others didn't just vanish into thin air! They were taken, and we need to go after them-'

'Search team is prepping to leave. But not before we've gotten the intel we need from you.'

Bellamy's heart jumped into his throat at the mention of a search team as he moved closer to Kane, sitting across from him. 'I need to be on that team. Please.'

'That's out of the question you're not trained. It's too dangerous.' Kane denied Bellamy's request without an ounce of sympathy.

'Those are my people out there.'

Kane leaned forward. 'They're my people too. You wanna help them? Tell me what we're up against. Grounder tactics, their numbers, what kind of weapons they used.'

'Arrows and spears, axes, swords, their teeth.' Bellamy hoped helping Kane would make the man more likely to allow Bellamy to join the search team.

'No guns?'

Bellamy shook his head.

'You had guns.'

'The guns we found at the aid depot levelled the playing field, and maybe... maybe if we'd had more bullets we could have-'

'There were more bullets. The search team just returned from the bunker. They found two more barrels full of rifles and a third filled with bullets.

Bellamy's heart sunk at Kane's words, embarrassment and defeat crawled over his skin like a disease. He hadn't done his duty as a leader, instead he'd selfishly planned to run away from everyone. If it weren't for Brinley-

Bellamy cut his thought off, refocusing on the conversation at hand. 'We should have looked harder.'

The doors behind Kane slid open and Bellamy's anger and agitation returned tenfold. 'What's he doing here?'

Murphy immediately tensed up, staring wide-eyed at Bellamy.

'Excuse me sir, Dr Griffin cleared Mr Murphy out of medical.' The blonde woman leading Murphy spoke, ignoring Bellamy's murderous gaze.

'Put him over there, major Byrne.'

Bellamy shook his head, looking at Kane in disbelief.

Byrne led Murphy to where Kane had instructed as one of the other guards came towards Bellamy, who held his hands up innocently. 'On your knees.'

'Well this should be fun.' Murphy seemed to have gained some of his attitude back once both his and Bellamy's hands were bound.

Everyone froze for a moment as distant gunfire and shouting was heard, the guards and Kane immediately leaving Bellamy and Murphy alone, only able to imagine what was happening outside their makeshift home.

Brinley watched Jasper hover awkwardly around Clarke, obviously unsure of where their friendship stood after both she and Clarke had tried to escape the confines of Mount Weather.

After they had been caught, Brinley had been escorted back to the dormitories and Clarke had been taken to Dante, returning shortly after look solemn but acting every bit the part of grateful citizen. Brinley didn't believe her attitude for a second; instead waiting for the moment Clarke would put whatever she was planning into action.

'Look who got released.'

Jasper's words made Brinley's attention drift towards the door where Maya stood with a healthy looking Miller who, after the initial introduction to Mount Weather, had been taken back into medical to undergo a further two surgeries to completely fix all the damage his body had sustained during the battle with the grounders.

'Hey.' Miller nodded to Clarke.

'I'm glad your okay.' Clarke smiled gently.

'Yeah, only took, what, three surgeries?' Miller looked to Maya who smiled, eyes darting to Clarke in unease. 'I hear you're fitting right in.'

Maya looked uncomfortable as Clarke glanced at her. 'Twice a day, don't forget.' She handed Miller a bottle of medication. 'You'll be okay in a few days.'

Brinley stood up from the bed she was occupying. 'Thanks for taking care of him.' She smiled sweetly at Maya who forced a smile back. Jasper looked between the two, his infatuation with Maya was incredibly obvious and Brinley owed it to her friend to make an effort with the girl he so clearly liked. 'I didn't properly introduce myself to you when we met, I'm Brinley.'

'Maya.' The girl played along, her smile becoming slightly more genuine.

'Well Maya,' Brinley smiled wickedly at Jasper whose eyes widened. 'Jasper was just telling me that he'd really like to have breakfast with you.'

'Really?' Maya blushed, looking to Jasper for confirmation.

'Yeah! Yeah definitely!' Jasper agreed enthusiastically.

'I'd like that.' Maya smiled at Jasper. 'I-'

Maya's words were cut off by a loud alarm, and from the change in the girls expression, Brinley could tell it was serious. 'Um, save me a seat okay?'

Clarke blocked Maya's escape. 'Hey, what's going on?'

'That signal means a surface patrol is back and someone needs medical attention. I have to go to quarantine.' Maya disappeared.

'Hey- where are you going?' Jasper tried to stop Clarke from following the dark haired girl.

'Maybe they found survivors. If our people are hurt we have a right to know.'

"I'm – I'm pretty sure we shouldn't just go wandering around.' Jasper tried to reason with Clarke, but from the determined look on her friends face Brinley knew Clarke had already made up her mind.

Brinley was proved right as Clarke ran after Maya and after a moment of hesitation Jasper followed, Brinley ran to catch up to the two.

'Well this is exciting.' She chirped, her mind whirring with possibilities. What if they found Finn, or Raven, or Murphy, - what if it was Bellamy?

'What are we dealing with?' The trio followed Maya's voice.

'They were attacked. One dead, he's in room two, the other took of his gloves and mask to treat him. He's still in decon but he'll need treatment as soon as he's processed through.

'Who attacked them?' Clarke pushed her way into the conversation.

'What are they doing here?' The male who had been briefing Maya sneered, sounding less than impressed with their appearance.

Clarke swiped a key card and immediately headed towards the locked door.

'Hey stop it's not safe!' The same man tried to warn them to stay away.

'It is for us!' Clarke shot back. 'Come on guys.'

'Someone's got to keep her out of trouble.' Jasper glanced back at Maya as they entered the room.

'Clarke, slow down! Stop pushing so hard these people-'

Jasper stopped speaking as the body of the patrolman came into view.

'-Are lying to us.' Clarke finished. 'That's a bullet wound, Grounders don't use guns.'

Brinley peered at the wound and found herself agreeing with Clarke. The wound was too large to be an arrow and too small to be a sword, a bullet wound seemed the only logical explanation.

'Unless the grounders got the guns from us.' Jasper sounded unsure.

'I don't think so. I think our people are alive out there.'

'Get them out of here!'

The doctor appeared behind them followed by more medical personnel, leading a man into the room, who was clearly suffering from the radiation on the surface level.

'Holy shit.' Brinley breathed out, and for the first time, she found herself thankful that she had been born in space.

*****

Raven was screaming.

The sound echoed around the room and both Bellamy and Murphy tried hard to ignored the pain filled sound as it shattered the tense silence that had settled.

'Yeah, that was me at the grounder camp.' Murphy commented, tapping at the support beam he was leaning against. 'You know I did everything I could not to scream but eventually-'

'But eventually, you broke and you told them everything.' Bellamy finished angrily.

Murphy smiled sarcastically, already familiar with Bellamy's superiority complex.  'And you wouldn't have because you're better than me.'

'Damn right. I'm not a traitor, I didn't tell them where they could find us.'

'And I did. Yeah, I did' Murphy confirmed. 'After the tortured me in their prison camp for three days. But go ahead, you just keep believing you're better, even if you are in here just like me.'

'Shut up Murphy.'

Murphy snorted. 'I'll never know what she see's in you.'

Bellamy noted Murphy's use of present tense but didn't comment on it, choosing to go back to staring angrily at the doors that sealed them in.

*****

'What did President Wallace say?'

Jasper and Brinley immediately cornered Clarke the moment she walked back into the room, eager to hear what their friend had discovered.

'It looked like an arrow wound.' Clarke sounded discouraged.

'Well, maybe because it is an arrow wound?' Jasper frowned.

'Or that's what they want us to think.' A look crossed Jasper's face that made Clarke get defensive. 'What? They could have doctored it!'

'Clarke, you sound like a crazy person, why do you want to screw this up for us?'

'Jasper.' Brinley warned, not liking her friends tone.

'I don't know what this is.'

'This is... safe. This is food, a real bed, clothes, and my personal favourite – not getting speared by grounders. How long do you think they'll let us stay here if you keep this up?' Jasper ignored Brinley's interruption.

'Jasper, stop it! Clarke is looking out for us! You can't just trust everything these people say!' Brinley crossed her arms angrily.

'Brin, you aren't helping either. You're both acting crazy, look we all miss Raven, Finn and Bellamy too, but they're gone, you have to accept it.'

'You don't know that.' Brinley hissed through her teeth.

'Did someone threaten you?' Clarke spoke up again.

'No, no. It's common sense. Look, we're guests here, not prisoners, what would you do with a guest who kept calling you a liar and generally acted like an ungrateful ass?'

'Kick the ungrateful ass out.' Miller piped up, barely looking up from the book he was reading.

'Right now, the biggest threat to us... it's both of you.'

Jasper walked away and Brinley forced her expression to stay as one of anger instead of betrayal and hurt. Clarke sighed and retreated to her bed, staring at the ceiling silently.

Brinley let her expression drop, feeling her lower lip tremble. She'd been doing her best to keep from thinking about Bellamy and the others and now Jasper had dredged up all the grief and uncertainty surrounding them.

Miller must have seen the look on her face as he spoke to her quietly, moving to stand beside her. 'It's okay Brin, we're safe here.'

'Do you agree with him?' Brinley asked, keeping her eyes on the floor.

'About what?'

'Do you think I'm crazy? Unstable?'

Miller sighed. 'Right now? Kinda, yeah.'

Brinley looked up, her eyes boring into Miller's with a fierce intensity.

Miller felt guilt creep over his skin at the pure amount of emotion in his friend's eyes. Sometimes it was easy to forget that Brinley Kane was as human as he was, she was so good at hiding her true emotions that it was hard to tell how she really felt most of the time. But for the first time since he'd met her, Miller was seeing how much emotion she did feel, and the utter turmoil in her eyes almost knocked him breathless.

'Look, Brin-' Miller reached out for her arm.

'Don't touch me.' Brinley's words were emotionless as she jerked her arm out of reach, before turning and walking away.

She had to get out of there and she had to take them all with her; willing or not.

*****

Bellamy had just begun to fall asleep when the doors opened.

'Get up, we're going after them.' Finn looked determined, clearly not messing around, Monroe and Sterling following him.

Finn cut Bellamy's binds. 'It's about time.' Bellamy spoke, more than thankful to be free.

Finn was turning to leave when Murphy spoke. 'Whoa, wait! What about me?'

Bellamy looked to Finn who shook his head. Murphy watched, shrinking back as Bellamy came towards him threateningly with the wire cutters.

'Wait, no! What are you doing?' Finn seemed genuinely worried that Bellamy was going to attack Murphy. Instead Bellamy leant down, cutting Murphy free.

'He's coming with us.'

'No way.' Finn denied.

'He's been to the grounder prison camp.' Bellamy pulled Murphy to his feet none too gently.

'He's right, I can take you there.' Murphy seemed only too eager to help.

'Hey, Sterling just signalled, someone's coming.' Monroe warned.

Finn quickly agreed as the group hurried out of camp, praying not to be caught.

*****

Brinley sat in silence next to Clarke, who angrily screwed her map of Mount Weather into a ball.

Neither girl had spoken to their friends since the incident with Jasper, and though they could feel eyes on them, neither of them attempted to make conversation.

Brinley wanted out of Mount Weather and soon, the entire thing seemed far too good to be true, and in her experience, that meant it usually was.

Something seemed to catch Clarke's attention and Brinley immediately noticed. 'What? What is it?'

'That guy, he was the one they bought in dying from radiation. He's walking around like nothing happened.' Clarke whispered back.

'What? That's not possible.'

'I know.' Clarke stood up. 'C'mon.'

The two snuck behind the man, who swiped his key card.

'Only patients are allowed in medical.' Clarke whispered to herself.

'Clarke, what are you planning?'

'I have to find out what they're doing.'

'I'm coming too.'

Clarke shook her head. 'No, it'll be too suspicious if we both go in at the same time.

'What are you going to do?' Brinley frowned.

Clarke gestured to her arm. 'I'm already injured.'

'What about me?' Brinley frowned. 'Clarke-'

'I'm going now, you wait awhile and then follow.'

Brinley nodded. 'Alright. Find out what you can but Clarke – if you find a way out, if you can get away – go.'

Clarke frowned. 'Brinley-'

'I mean it. Go, find whoever is left and then come back for us.'

'If I find a way out before you get there, I'll let you know where to go somehow, I promise. I can't do this without you.'

'Good luck Clarke.'

'You too Brin.'

Clarke disappeared towards the dormitories and Brinley made her way back to the rec room, a plan already forming in her mind.

*****

'You don't think anyone saw us?'

'Shh! Keep it down!'

Bellamy rolled his eyes at Finn's attitude but kept his mouth shut anyway, pulling Murphy alone roughly. So far the hadn't been detected and Bellamy hoped it stayed that way.

A light was suddenly flashed in his eyes and Bellamy flinched away, blinking as his eyes adjusted to the new scene before him.

'You're late.' Abby sounded unsurprised at their appearance.

'Bellamy decided to bring company.' Finn nodded at Murphy.

'He's the only person who's been in their camp.

Abby held out a gun, as did the guard next to her.

'Find my son.' The man spoke sombrely. 'His name is Nathan Miller.'

Abby looked at each of them. 'Bring them home.'

*****

Brinley waited a good ten minutes before she left the rec room to put her plan into action. It wasn't long until people would begin to trickle back to their rooms for the night, meaning it was the perfect time for Brinley to put on the biggest performance of her life.

She had no idea if there were cameras in the dorms but if her and Clarke were correct, the people of Mount Weather wanted something from them, and would be monitoring them accordingly.

So Brinley began pacing quickly, shaking her fists by her side, mumbling names under her breath. Finn, Raven, Murphy, Bellamy, Finn, Raven, Murphy, Bellamy –

If she was playing it right, it would look like she was ranting to herself which would make her next actions much more believable.

Brinley violently tore the bedding from the mattress close to her, flinging it across the room, before she proceeded to pick up spare shoes and clothing, sending them flying across the room.

The anger was one thing she didn't have to fake. Brinley had an unhealthy talent when it came to turning every other emotion into pure rage and this was no different. She had an audience now, and more than once she heard Bellamy's name whispered which only fuelled her anger.

'Brinley! What are you doing?' Jasper was frowning, approaching her as though she were an animal.

Brinley didn't answer as she picked up Miller's book and tossed it towards her friend who ducked out of the way. Brinley reached for Miller's pillow, hearing the sound of his medication underneath it. Brinley reached for the container, gripping it tightly.

The scene she caused had its intended affect as Mount Weather guards appeared, hands on the holsters containing their weapons. 'Ma'am, put down the medication.'

Brinley laughed and she saw their grips on the guns tighten. 'What are you going to do? Make me?'

Brinley had already seen the guard sneaking around her while the other tried to calm her down, and keep her attention on him, but in order for her to pull her plan off – Brinley had to be caught.

That didn't mean she didn't struggle as they took her down, knocking the medication out of her grasp as they pulled her to her feet.

Once she was secured, Brinley stopped fighting as she forced herself to cry, she could feel the eyes of her friends on her the entire time as the guards began muttering to each other about doctors, and sedatives and mental health evaluations as they neared an elevator.

Brinley fought back a smirk as the elevator doors closed.
