1 - White Noise

Brinley woke up with a start.

It took her a few moments for her eyes to adjust, but when they did she realised that something was very, very wrong.

She was in a white room, in a white bed, with white floors, walls and ceiling, dressed in white clothing with a tube stuck into her arm. Everything was clinical looking; vaguely familiar medical equipment was pushed neatly around the room, not a thing looking out of place. But despite how unsettled this made her, it wasn't what terrified her the most.

For the first time since she'd set foot on the ground, Brinley Kane was completely alone.

Brinley pushed herself up, her eyes finding a white bandage around her sprained ankle, moving it slightly she determined that some of the swelling had gone down considerably, and the pain was slightly more manageable.

Looking down at her wrist, Brinley didn't hesitate to pull the cannula out of her arm, finding some satisfaction as she smeared the line of blood that appeared on the pristine white sheets she had been lying on.

Her bare feet touched the ground, and it took a moment for her to become used to the chill, but slowly Brinley pulled herself out of the bed, immediately making her way to the door.

Where is everyone?

There was a room opposite hers but Brinley was unable to see if anyone was inside.

A scream left Brinley's lips, as someone appeared at the window - a very familiar someone.

'Clarke?' Brinley rasped out before clearing her throat and banging at the door aggressively. 'Clarke!'

'Brinley?' Clarke's voice was muffled and Brinley could see rivers of blood running down her arm. Brinley eyes were drawn to the blood stained shard of glass Clarke was holding to a pale, dark haired girls neck.

'Let her out.' Clarke commanded.

The dark haired girl trembled as she unlocked Brinley's door, whimpers escaping her lips as Brinley came closer.

'What's going on? Where are we?'

'I don't know, but I'm going to find out. Monty's here.'

Brinley's jaw dropped. 'Monty's here? Oh my god... he's alive?'

'He was when I saw him, and then she appeared.' Clarke nudged the girl again as they began walking, Brinley's mind spinning with possibilities. Does that mean Finn and Bellamy...

'Clarke, you're bleeding.' The girl sobbed as Clarke pushed her down a corridor.

'How do you know my name?' Clarke asked angrily.

'It was on your chart.'

'How do they know my name?'

'I don't know! Please don't hurt me!'

'Do exactly what we say.' Clarke demanded. When the girl reached into the strange blue suit she was wearing, Brinley immediately pushed her against the cement wall.

'I don't think so.'

'Key card.' The girl whispered, trying to inch away from Brinley as much as she could in her current position. ''I just need my key card.'

Clarke took control again as the door to an elevator opened. 'Which level?'

Brinley watched the girl press the level 5 button, storing it away in her mind for future reference.

'Who are you people?' No answer from the girl. 'Answer me! How many of us are here? Where are they? Say something!'

The girl continued sobbing, looking between Brinley and Clarke.

Arrived, level 5.

The elevator chimed as it opened and Clarke immediately forced her prisoner forward, stopping at the sound of chatter.

There was a room full of well dressed people, talking amongst themselves, plates of food lining the tables.

One woman seemed to notice the newcomers as she stood up, horrified. 'Containment breach! Containment Breach!'

The brunette girl managed to escape from Clarke's grip as panic broke out in what Brinley assumed was a dining hall.

Brinley heard the click of a gun as a group of guards appeared, weapons trained on the two girls.

'Where the hell are we?' Clarke whispered.

'That's what I'd like to know.' Brinley hissed back.

*****

'Fuck.'

Murphy cursed as a bolt of pain shot up his leg. He was pointedly trying to ignore the smell of rotting flesh that hung in the air around the drop ship, he didn't know if they were the people he'd arrived with or the grounders that had threatened them. He hoped it was the latter, but still, he couldn't be too sure.

There was no sound coming from the drop ship. Murphy's heart had sunk when he'd first stumbled onto the site. It was likely that Brinley was already gone, dead or taken he didn't know, and his chest constricted tightly at the thought of never seeing her again.

Oh, he'd fucked up royally.

Murphy pulled back the drop ship curtain, jumping in fright as he noticed the gun trained on him, held in the hands of a girl on the cool metal floor. 'Whoa, whoa, it's okay! It's okay Raven, don't – don't shoot. Please.'

Of course it was her, fan-fucking-tastic.

'Why not? You shot me.'

Murphy's hands reached to cover his head as the gun clicked. There were no more bullets. With a loud exhale; Murphy limped further into the dropship, settling on the floor near Raven, who looked terrified and sick as she gripped the gun.

'Yeah, I would have shot me too.'

*****

'Hello girls. Clarke, how's your arm?'

Brinley struggled against the restraints that held her to the bed. Clarke was next to her, pulling at her binds as a smug looking woman came towards them, followed by and two men and the girl Clarke had held hostage.

'Not much of a talker, is she?' The woman commented as Clarke refused to speak.

'A skill picked up from the savages no doubt. That's fine, Maya has something to say first anyway.' The white haired man spoke confidently and kindly, yet something about him made Brinley's skin crawl.

'You were the next two to be cleared through quarantine, another ten minutes and you would have-'

The man cleared his throat and Maya sighed. 'I'm not pressing charges.'

'Thank you Maya, you can get your treatment now.'

The doctor ushered Maya away towards one of the beds, the girl casting a curious look at the two one last time.

'Restraints aren't necessary.'

'Yes, Mr President.'

One of the guards stationed in the room unclipped both Clarke and Brinley's wrists.

'Dante Wallace.' He held out his hand for Clarke to shake, and after casting a curious glance at his streaked hands he added, 'Oil paint. Yes that's right, you're an artist too.'

'Who told you that?' Clarke questioned as she stood up, Brinley moving quickly to her side.

'Your people did. They also said you were their leader. Looks like you and I have a lot in common, kiddo.'

'Where's my watch?' Clarke asked.

'I'm sorry but we can't let contaminated items inside Mount Weather, we couldn't risk it. Our protocol is very strict, Clarke. We prioritize safety over sentimentality.'

'How many of us did you capture?' Brinley asked the question she'd been biting back.

'Forty-eight, including the two of you. But Brinley you've got it wrong, you're not prisoners. We saved you.'

'Well in that case you won't mind if we leave.' Brinley snapped, untrusting of the male in front of her.

'If there are forty-eight of us here, we still have people out there.' Clarke added.

'The patrol bought in everyone they could find.'

'What about the Ark? It came down last night.'

'We saw it. There were multiple crash sites over one hundred square miles. If there were survivors we will bring them in too. You have my word.'

'I want to see my people.'

'Of course you do. I would too.'

A large case was wheeled over to the girls. 'Change, and meet me in the hall.'

'I don't like this.' Brinley muttered, aware of Maya lying not too far from them.

'Neither do I, but I need to find our people.'

'Do you think Finn and Bellamy-'

'I don't know.' Clarke swallowed, distracting herself by running her hands over the jewellery left out for them. Brinley watched as she snapped a heel off a pair of shoes.

'Can't be too careful.' Clarke commented upon seeing the amused look on Brinley's face.

*****

Brinley and Clarke were left sour faced as Dante confiscated the heel Clarke had stolen and the necklace Brinley had taken from the medical room. Brinley had chosen the necklace purely for it to be used as a weapon if necessary, strangling someone to death wasn't ideal but if it came down to a fight, Brinley knew she would do it.

The guards ushered them into a room where they could see familiar figures bunched together as one of the mount weather residents filled them in on their new home.

'You came from level three, which houses our medical facility –'

'Clarke!'

Brinley almost squealed at the familiar figure rushing towards them. Monty hugged Clarke tightly before his eyes moved to Brinley.

'Brin!'

Brinley hugged Monty fiercely before she let him go, punching him on the shoulder. 'Don't you ever do that to me again!'

Monty winced, though Brinley knew he was playing around. 'Noted.'

Jasper hugged Brinley next, grinning all the while. 'Good to see you still alive.'

'Same goes for you Jordan.' She grinned.

No sooner had Jasper released her did someone else squeeze her tightly. 'Had me worried for a second when you weren't with the rest of us.'

'You can't get rid of me that easily Miller.' Brinley smiled.

'Finn and Bellamy?'

Brinley's head turned at Clarke's question and her heart sunk at the look Jasper and Monty shared. 'Clarke they... they didn't make it.'

Brinley bit her lip and forced her eyes to the floor, willing her tears to go away. Miller noticed her silence and wrapped him arm around her tighter.

'We don't know that.' Clarke denied fiercely and Jasper nodded, though he didn't look convinced. 'What about Raven?'

More silence.

'Welcome Clarke, Brinley. If you have any questions, I'm Keenan.' The woman who'd been giving the remainder of the 100 their information smiled at the two girls as she handed them their packets before walking away.

*****

'C'mon Brin, try the cake.'

'Not hungry.'

Miller sighed as he stared at Brinley. 'You have to eat.'

'Not hungry.'

'Look, I know you're upset about Finn and Bell-'

'I'm fine. I just don't trust them. I'm not eating their food.' Brinley stood up from her seat beside Miller. 'I'm going to talk to Clarke.'

'I'll be here.'

Brinley made her way to Jasper, Monty and Clarke, sitting in the empty seat beside Monty.

'... They gave us a map with no exits. I need you to tell me everything you've seen. Every room, every hallway, every way out.'

'Way out? Look around you Clarke, there's no one hunting us, first time in our lives we aren't hungry, why would we want to leave?'

'Because we have friends out there that need our help.'

'They're looking for survivors.' Monty chimed in. 'and they're way better equipped to find them than we are.'

'This place is too good to be true.' Clarke whispered.

'I agree. I want out, like right now. President Wallace gives me the creeps.'

'You're bumming me out. I'm – I'm gonna get more cake.'

Brinley watched Jasper walk off, noticing Maya sitting alone in the direction Jasper had headed. Clarke seemed to notice the same thing.

'What's your plan?' Brinley asked immediately.

'Follow me.'

*****

Bellamy stayed silent as the grounder – Tristan – bound his hands together.

Bellamy was exhausted, and desperate to find the dropship site. Everyone left had got inside before the jets fired from what he'd seen, so that meant she was okay, right? He hoped that was the case but he couldn't be sure for certain and that terrified him more than he wanted to admit.

'You have to stay on your feet. He'll kill you if you don't.' Finn whispered to Bellamy who couldn't bring himself to speak.

Battle cries came from behind them as Monroe and Sterling appeared from the trees. Bellamy knew they stood no chance against the vicious grounder –

Until two bullets lodged neatly into his body, killing him.

Bellamy and Finn fell to the ground while Monroe and Sterling jumped back. The four looked around for attackers, and both relief and dread filled them as Marcus Kane and the guard came out of the trees.

'We're here now. Everything's gonna be okay.'

Finn and Bellamy shared a look. Everything was about to change – again.

Kane checked Tristan's body, and seeing no sign of life signalled to one of he guards, who in turn let out a shrill whistle as more Arkadian's appeared. Finn helped a battered Bellamy stand as Abby Griffin came rushing over.

'Don't stand.' She warned Bellamy.

'I'm fine. We need to get back to the dropship.' Bellamy denied her help, speaking to Finn.

'Hey, where's Clarke? Is she alright?'

'She was when we left. We'll take you to her.' Finn began to leave.

'Hey, wait, slow down.' Kane blocked Finn's path. 'Sinclair-'

Bellamy looked to Finn. 'I thought they were dead?'

'So did I.'

'You six with me, you two – ' Kane gestured to Bellamy and Finn. 'Lead the way.'

Kane spoke again as he passed Abby. 'We're almost there Abby.'

Finn and Bellamy crept towards the dropship site, finding bloodied corpses staked to trees and thrown carelessly to the ground.

'It's too quiet.' Bellamy immediately noticed as he went to move, only to be stopped by Kane.

'We'll take it from here. Banks, Scanlon, you stay with them. We'll signal once we're sure it's safe.'

Bellamy felt anger flare up but he stayed put – for now.

Marcus and Abby took in the two injured teenagers when they entered the drop ship.

'She's not here. Clarke's not here.'

Raven's quiet voice made Kane look up, noticing the desolate look on Abby's face. 'What about my daughter? What about Brinley?'

'She's not here either. We haven't seen anyone.' Murphy rasped out.

Bellamy and Finn were waiting impatiently for any sign from Abby and Marcus, Bellamy cursing under his breath every few minutes.

'We need a stretcher!'

That was all the two needed before they began to rush towards the dropship, only to be stopped by their two babysitters. 'Whoa, whoa, whoa.'

Finn looked to Bellamy, who nodded as the two began running, having the advantage of knowing the terrain far better than the guards that were pursuing them, using one of the foxholes to appear near the dropship.

'Where is everyone?' Bellamy frowned.

'It was awful- it was awful. There were hundred of them, and if it wasn't for Raven, I don't know what happened.'

Kane was helping Murphy out of the dropship, and the sight of him ignited so much anger in Bellamy that he could have killed the other male right then and there.

'Bellamy... you're – uh – you're alive...' Murphy trailed off. Shit, fuck, shit, today just isn't my day.

Bellamy rushed at Murphy, surprising Kane. Bellamy held Murphy by the throat. 'You murdering son of a bitch!' Bellamy began punching Murphy repeatedly.

'Bellamy, stop!' Finn tried.

Bellamy did stop, but only as one of the guards shock lashed him, causing him to convulse on the ground, gasping for air.

'Place him under arrest.'

'No, wait you don't understand. Murphy murdered two of our people, he shot another one, and he tried to hang Bellamy.' Finn defended Bellamy's actions as Bellamy was hauled away.

'I don't care! You are not animals! There are rules, laws! You are not in control anymore.' Kane spat, and right then Finn and Bellamy started to understand why Brinley hated her father.

*****

Alert, code five.

'Not prisoners, huh?'

Clarke and Brinley began running, trying to lose the guards that had appeared on either side of them. Clarke scanned Maya's key card to access a restricted door that led them to a large amount of steps going up, and down. After a moments deliberation, Clarke chose to go up as Brinley snapped the electrical cables that kept the door scanner working. Brinley glanced at the emergency evacuation sign and knew they were going in the right direction, the rounded a corner and Clarke ran to the lever while Brinley spun the wheel on the door. Clarke looked at Brinley, who nodded as she reached for the lever.

'Clarke, no! If you pull that lever these people will die, even a little radiation can kill them.'

Jasper and Maya had appeared, and Brinley watched as Maya pulled out a gun, pointing it at Clarke. 'Don't make me shoot you.'

'Wait, wait.' Jasper pleaded with Maya as he stood between his two friends. 'Don't do this.'

'I don't believe them.' Clarke's voice was shaky.

'Why would they lie?'

'Because that's what people do Jasper, they lie to get what they want.' Brinley frowned at her friend.

'They don't want anything from us Brin. Listen to me. We are safe here because of you, because of both of you. We're safe.' Jasper smiled.

'Not all of us.' Clarke's words triggered something in Brinley as she felt the fight leave her body. Murphy, Raven, Octavia, Finn, Bellamy...

Were any of them still alive?

'I'm the one that fired the rockets, should I not have done that?' Jasper's eyes were shining with tears. 'Clarke when you pulled that lever, you saved lives. Don't throw that away by pulling this one.'

Clark's hand fell to her side as tears escaped her eyes. Beside her, Brinley had pressed her hand to her mouth to try and hold her cries in.

Neither girl even protested as they were pushed to the ground and handcuffed, both lost in a sudden tidal wave of grief that gripped them tight, and then pulled them under.
