Chapter 19: The Pure and the Dark Part II

"No." Annabeth said, shaking her head in denial. "No, that can't be true. Percy isn't the demigod that represents the darkness."

"We're not saying he is, but he will be if we don't act fast." Hazel warned.

"Meanwhile, we should try figuring out who is the demigod that represents the light." Jason suggested.

Annabeth shot him a look that would've sent monsters running the other direction. Jason raised his hands in surrender. "Just saying, incase."

Annabeth continued pacing around the room, her mind at work. "Hazel, didn't you say that the black blood will be evident through a demigod's skin?"

"Yes. But when I read further into the book I found out that it could be hidden, if the demigod chooses to hide it. They will only be forced to show it if they are at their darkest peak." Hazel explained.

"So? Who has the nerve to anger Percy till he reaches his limit?" Leo asked.

"I don't suggest any of us tries to do that, trust me." Frank said.

"Then we'll never know, Percy might be hiding it, and no one wants to see him go dark mode on anyone." Jason said.

"Then what do you suggest we do? All you do is complain and state the obvious!" Annabeth yelled, her voice exploding in the cabin.

"Maybe you should've taken my advice in the beginning and left this cursed island when we had the chance to." Jason stated.

Piper rolled her eyes. "Please leave Jason, it would do us all a favor."

Jason chose to ignore her and went back to arguing with Annabeth. "Annabeth, can't you hear yourself? Percy's most likely gone, for good. Your so obsessed with making him good again your brining us all down with you!"

"For the last time, whoever wishes to leave, please do. I know who I'm dealing with." She walked away, grabbing her jacket before she left the cabin.

She stopped at the doorway and looked back at Jason one more time. "We might not know yet if Percy is fully gone, but all I know is that at the end, you'll be the demigod who represents the light."

Annabeth stopped, hesitating to knock on the door. She was a bit too early for the meeting, no one was probably there. Hopefully no one would be there, she needed some alone time with him.

Annabeth knocked, she waited for a couple of minutes before the door opened by itself again. She walked in, a gasp escaping her mouth.

Percy had his arms wrapped around Octavia's waist, her hands buried in his hair, their lips wouldn't separate. Annabeth's loud gasp made them break apart.

Percy turned to face her, Octavia just kept smiling in Annabeth's direction. Percy folded his arms against his chest. "Are you always either early or late? No in between?" He asked, clearly irritated.

Annabeth recovered from her shock, pain consuming her body. "Sorry sir," she muttered as she took a seat on the round table.

Percy didn't say anything as he sat down, Octavia sitting next to him. Annabeth sat next to him at the other side.

"Bring Atlanta to me, I need her to attend this meeting." Percy beckoned to Octavia, who didn't seem happy about leaving her alone with Percy.

She didn't disobey him, she instantly got up and left the office. Silence filled the room. Annabeth clinched her hands into fists, anger boiling inside of her. As much as she hated to admit it, she was obsessed. She would do anything to bring back the Percy she loved. Seeing him with Octavia only made her want him more, it also made her deadly hatred towards Octavia grow.

"Is Atlanta an Upper Guards as well?" Annabeth asked.

Percy glanced towards her, his dark eyes looking her up and down. "No. She is my lieutenant, this meeting is extremely important, so her presence is needed."

Fear overcame her body, what have the Olympians done now? "Your eyes tell me your confused? What is your question?"

She hesitated for a moment, what if she asked the wrong question? She can't handle his rage again, but he had given her the chance to ask. "Why is the meeting so important?"

The king sighed and got up, making his way to his desk. "Follow me." Immediately she got up and made her way to his desk. He opened one of the drawers and brought out a small scroll and handed it to her.

She unrolled it and read it. When she was done she forgot that Percy was standing too close to her, she ripped the parchment to pieces and tossed it away. Percy's eyebrows were raised in astonishment, though the darkness still lurked in his eyes. "That was my letter to rip," he added.

"What will you do now?" She asked.

"What do you think I'll do? Sit in the corner and cower in fear? I've answered the Olympians' call for war. Although, something keeps bothering me," he stepped closer to her, their faces a few inches away, his grip on her wrists tightened, "give me one good reason why I should believe that you and your friends had no knowledge of this?"

His dark aura began to form around him, if she chose to answer with the wrong words, it might cost her life. She tried to step away but he had her pinned on the wall, his nails digging deeper into her skin. "Lord Percy, please. I truly had no knowledge of this. It wouldn't make sense for the Olympians to send us here and then declare war a week later."

He laughed. His laugh sent chills around her body. "That reason isn't good enough, find something better." She tried to shake free but she knew he was more powerful. She sensed blood around her wrists, it stung. "I would never have agreed to come here if I knew I was coming here to fight you, I swear on the river of Styx."

"Then why are you here?" She gulped, he had asked her the question she feared the most. Annabeth looked up, daring to look him in the eyes. "I came here to save you, not fight you."

"I don't believe that, did you actually think that when the Olympians sent you here, they sent you on a mission to bring me back? You honestly think the Olympians would let me walk around with blood on my hands? You were fooled Annabeth." He let go of one of her wrists and stroke her hair, evil swimming in his eyes. "The true reason why the Olympians sent you here was to have you survey the area, get to know it, learn its weakness. They didn't send you here to have you give me a pep talk. I killed Will and countless other demigods! Not because it was an accident, no! I kill for pleasure, because I love it."

Annabeth was shivering, the room wasn't cold, but the power he radiated made her heart freeze. "Let me break it down to you Annabeth, the Olympians were using you all along, they betrayed you. They let you think I could be brought back, look at my hands Annabeth and tell me wether I am worth saving or not?" Annabeth already knew what was coming, her tears blinded her vision but she focused and looked down, his hands were soaked with her blood but that wasn't the worst part. His blood was evident through his skin, black blood spreading across his hands, to the rest of his body.

Realization flooded her mind and she instantly looked back up, the blood was spreading across his face, making him look unbearable to look at. He smiled, understanding what she was thinking. "Oh yes Annabeth, I know that you have knowledge about the darkness of a demigod. I know your every move."

She shook her head, that was impossible. "H-how?"

He shrugged. "I don't like spoiling the fun for people, all I can say is that you can't trust everyone, even the closest of people to you."

More tears spilled down her cheeks. Her world was falling apart, the Olympians had betrayed her, she was in shock because of that, especially when it was coming from Poseidon. One of her friends was a traitor and Percy was gone for good, when had it happened?

He glanced at the black blood flowing in his hands. "This happened even before you came here Annabeth, even the Olympians knew." He smiled at her defeated countenance, he wiped away her tears with his thumb, "you poor thing. Its hard, I know, finding out your a small puppet in a big play. Do you know what that reminds me of?"

He pushed her face up, forcing her to look at him. "It reminds me of all these years the Olympians have used me, all the amount of pain I fought to keep down just to save the world. Only later did I realize that they were actually trying to save the world from me, trying to make me good. You stood in my way, someone I actually cared about."

He grabbed her shirt's collar and pulled her close, she winced in pain as his other hand only dug deeper into her wounded wrist. "So I had to choose between you and myself, spoiler alert honey I chose myself. I chose the darkness. I won't walk away from power and glory for a young girl like you. You weren't worth it, you never realized I was fighting a constant battle against who I really am."

Percy pushed her away, her head banging against the wall. In the end, it was either her or his darkness. He chose himself, for once. He had always put her first, and to that Annabeth was grateful. That meant he still had feelings for her, somewhere deep down, but he kept them at bay so that he could be himself.

It was her turn to choose him over her. The old fake Percy was gone, this was who he truly was and if she loved him, she had to accept him. She only wanted him.

"The Olympians betrayed me and amongst my friends is a traitor. What makes you think I'll fight alongside the Olympians in the war? I'll fight by your side if you accept me as one of your soldiers." She was deadly serious. She was done putting the Olympians first, she was done believing they were the 'good guys'. They weren't so good themselves.

"Swear on it." He declared, his eyes not leaving hers.

"I swear on the river of Styx, I'll fight by your side in this battle." She said, loudly.

"If you break your promise, I swear Annabeth, I'll kill you with my own bare hands, slowly." He whispered in her ear. She simply nodded.

He let go of her hand and stepped away. She crumbled to the ground, examining her bleeding wrists. She had been losing a lot of blood lately, first when she was tortured and now this. She felt dizzy, the world disappearing around her. She looked up at Percy one last time, pleading for help before she fell into unconsciousness.

***************

Silence has taken over the camp, fear slowly creeping into each camper's heart. The king stood at the balcony that overlooked the camp and the huge crowd of demigods that gathered in front of the palace.

"Preparations for war shall begin immediately. Anyone not putting their effort into this or slacking around will be whipped and they'll spend a night in the middle of the jungle where monsters are lurking in every shadow, and they'll be weaponless. I better not be disobeyed." The campers fell to their knees as Percy made his way back into his office where his Upper Guards sat quietly.

Atlanta stood behind his chair, too scared to look at him, Derek stood next to her, trembling in fear. Percy sat back down, ignoring his siblings' scared glances towards him.

Annabeth was the only Upper Guard missing, and no one, not even Octavia dared to ask him about her whereabouts.

"I thought I told you to only bring Atlanta, not to have Derek accompany her." Percy snapped at Octavia.

"She was with him at the time, he refused to let her come here without him." Octavia smiled, glancing at the young boy who hid behind Atlanta.

"Liar!" Atlanta gasped. Percy raised his hand to silence Atlanta. "I'll deal with him later." Derek whimpered and gripped his sister's hand.

"I won't send you today to fight the monsters in the jungle, it would be a waste of time. Each of you will be appointed to be in charge of an aspect for the preparation for war. I'll tell you your roles later. Your dismissed." Percy said.

Piper, Leo and Nico instantly rushed out of the room, the Upper Guards followed after them. Octavia stayed behind with Atlanta and Derek. "Octavia." Percy warned.

Octavia tried to act clueless. "Yes, my lord?"

"I didn't ask you to stay, get out." Octavia numbly got up and walked towards the door, bowing before slamming the door shut behind her.

"Derek your lucky I have a lot on my head to worry about you attending this meeting, I had to postpone mentioning important things because of your presence." Percy said, glaring at him.

"Don't be such a wimp! Approach your king." Percy ordered. Derek gulped and stepped away from Atlanta. He stood next to Percy, kneeling before him. Percy smiled, "playing innocent with me won't help you." He grabbed Derek by the collar and pinned a dagger to his throat.

By instinct, Atlanta's hand flew to the hilt of her sword, but she instantly dropped them before Percy noticed.

"Percy-please! I'm sorry, I'll never let you see me in the meetings here again! Its just that Octavia said you wanted both me and Atlanta, you know Octavia hates her." Derek cried, pleading for his brother's mercy.

"Don't ever speak of Octavia that way, who she wishes to hate, let her. The only reason your alive is because you benefit me with your shapeshifting skills, other than that I would've tossed your limp body in the ocean." Percy warned before tossing the kid away as if his body was already dead. "Get out."

The young boy got to his feet and left the office. Atlanta sat next to Percy on the table. "You don't have to be so rude and cruel towards him." Atlanta stated.

He shrugged. "He disobeyed me."

Atlanta shook her head. "No, Octavia disobeyed you. With all due respect, your biased. Just because she is your 'lover' doesn't make her better than the rest of us."

"I'm not biased towards her, I just find her unique as a Villain, saying a simple lie, landing Derek in trouble, a work of genius." Percy said.

Atlanta rolled her eyes. "More like a work of stupidity if you ask me." When it came to her relationship with Percy, she was the only one who could talk to him as if they were just friends. It was a whole other side to him, not good. Still evil, but an ally.

"I don't understand why you don't like her." Percy stated.

"Because she only searches for power. The only reason she likes you is because she likes the crown your wearing and wants one of her own. I once ruled this place Percy, I was once queen, I know a power hungry person when I see them." Atlanta explained. She instantly regretted what she said, when Percy's eyes turned colder than they were before. Before Percy had ruled the island, Atlanta was queen. She was struggling, she wasn't going to lie, Octavia was constantly fighting her for the throne, Atlanta was growing tired.

When Percy arrived he challenged her for the throne, he won fair and square. Her hand rubbed the scar on her arm, something permanent for her to remember. She was reduced to becoming his lieutenant and he forbid her to ever mention their duel again or her previous rule.

Atlanta held no grudge against her brother, she would never admit it but she loved not being in control, even back then, she didn't want to rule after she learned the pain and responsibility that came with it. But she would never let Octavia on the throne, that girl was a sociopath.

"Sorry, I'll never mention that again." Atlanta said. She didn't want things to be bad between them again. "I promise you, I'll never utter a word about the past again."

Percy looked away. "I want you to keep a close eye on Annabeth, befriend her."

Atlanta's eyes widened. "May I ask why?"

"She has chosen to fight on our side. I can't explain it to you, but I trust her. Our history together proves it, she swore anyway." Percy explained.

"If you trust her, why send me to spy on her?" Atlanta asked.

"It's not her I don't trust, its the people around her. I don't want them to interfere with her decision. Make myself clear?" He asked.

"Yes. I'll go check on her." Atlanta said, getting up and walking away.

"One last thing." Percy said. Atlanta halted and turned. "Leo is on our side. He's been giving me information ever since he arrived."

"What? Leo Valdez? Out of all the demigods, he is your spy-" Atlanta was left speechless as her brother raised his hand for silence.

"I'll explain. When I mentally tortured him, I didn't show him his mother burning, I was putting his mind to sleep. Leo Valdez has been asleep for a while, his mind locked in his own body. I've been controlling him ever since." Percy explained, smiling to himself. "Do your part well, Atlanta."

Atlanta smiled, she was a villain at the end of the day. "Don't worry. I will do anything to see the Olympians reduced to ashes."

I'm really sorry guys for being a day late, I was really sick. But I hope you guys like that chapter and incase any of you are confused or worried about Percy staying dark, this story itself was inspired behind the idea of 'Dark Percy'. Because Dark Percy is life and I wish Rick Riordan would write more about it for us to know. So Percy will stay dark, I can't promise anything else about the other characters or their fate. But Percy will stay dark, thats for sure. Because making Percy be good again makes the story's ending obvious. And telling you guys that Percy will stay dark isn't a spoiler because its the whole point of the book.
